Sorry I couldn't be more inventive with the title, it seems there are a ton of posts with similar titles, although none describes my situation. Yes, I've looked at the Wiki too. I'm not able to get the program to even begin loading, all I get is an instant error box.

It tells me it's going to save the error log to some file, but the file never actually gets created. I took some pictures of the error boxes, as I'm not able to actually capture screenshots for some reason (and oddly my mouse cursor is only displayed and only works when it hovers over the error box). Here they are: one (http://andrewswihart.net/pictures/xbmc-error-001.jpg), two (http://andrewswihart.net/pictures/xbmc-error-002.jpg), three (http://andrewswihart.net/pictures/xbmc-error-003.jpg). If I need to take more pictures of this last scrollable error box, I can.

I have tried the last official release 8.10, and the latest Babylon-beta1. I'm using Windows XP SP3. Here are some other system specs:

Epox 9nda3+ nforce3 motherboard
2GB DDR500 RAM
ATI 9800Pro
AMD Opteron 165 dual-core @ 2Ghz

I have the latest ATI drivers installed. I have tried disabling my firewall / antivirus / spyware. I have tried both the regular and windowed modes.

This may be useless, but here is the xbmc.log file contents:

Will having Winamp or Windows Media Player Classic, ffdshow, or other codec packs possibly be causing the problem? I could uninstall them all, but it's no use if that's unlikely to be the problem.

Thats your problem. You need openGL 2 at least I believe.

Update your graphics drivers to something that actually does something useful :)

@jmarshall - I liked slaveunit's answer better! Thanks to both of you, I DO feel INCREDIBLY STUPID. I won't try to explain this one away, lol.

The latest graphic drivers are already installed. It's an Intel GMA Graphics Core with 945 Chipset (Asus EEE Box).

Is OpenGL 2 really necessary? How can I get it working? :confused2:

Based on that log, it doesn't look like you have any OpenGL drivers installed at all. The Intel 945 does not support OpenGL 2 (http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel945gm/sb/CS-021517.htm), but it does support OpenGL 1.4, provided you have the latest drivers, which do not appear to be installed. Download them here (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2301&lang=eng). IIRC, XBMC doesn't absolutely require OpenGL2, it's just a recommendation. I wouldn't expect great performance in the XBMC interface even if you do get it working.

the graphics driver that is installed is not from intel.. it's a generic one by microsoft, so it does not support anything your card might offer.

try to get a driver by intel which is more specific. anyway, such a nettop pc might not fulfil openGL 2 standards.

Thanks for your replies!

I've reinstalled the video drivers (thanks @ mpw222 for the link).

After restarting nothing changed and XBMC still didn't work. But then I found out that hardware acceleration at the videosettings was surprisingly deactivated.

Now after reactivating everything works fine again! :D
