I have been reading through all the posts concerning mediaflags, but I'm still unable to get it to display all information. I am really trying to learn so please go easy on me.. I just need a little bit of help. I'm using Media Companion to create the nfo's, fanart and tbn. I then use Media Flag Updater to add mediaflag info to the nfo's, but it still doesnt work as it should. Here's an nfo for one of my movies.

It will display the 1080p part, but nothing else. No studio, audio, etc. Is there something wrong in the nfo? I really want to get this working as it's the only thing left that I haven't got working right. I tried using media companion by itself as I read it would add the appropriate stuff to the nfo, but it doesn't. I just cant figure out what to do to get everything to properly show up. As far as I can see it miss the audio type "AC-3", "DTS", etc.
For the source it has to be in the file name like "Changeling.blueray.avi"
Talking about the audio I cannot be sure but I think it's a problem of the Media Flag Updater.
So to recap AEON has 4 tag
1) Studio: It has to be in the studio tag of the nfo file
2) Source: It has to be in the file name
3) Resolution: It has to be in the studio tag of the nfo file
4) Audio: It has to be in the studio tag of the nfo file
You also need to update the library in xbmc to make it works.

You have to actually rename your media file to get the source. So : Australia.SDDVD.MP4 or AVI or whatever filetype it is. Try editing the NFO and replace MP3 with AC-3 or DTS, I don't think MP3 media flags are supported by default.

I would recommend using MIP (Media Info Plus) to do the flags. It does a good job for the most part. Keep in mind there are a finite number of studios available so not all the studios may work
the resolution should be right after the studio
so it should be in the following format AFAIK
<studio>studio name / resolution / video codec / audio format / number of channels / language / subtitle language1/ subtitle language2... </studio>
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm going to track down that media info plus and give it a try. Hope it works, I really like all these screenshots I've been seeing with the mediaflags working.
Ok so I cant imagine what I could be doing wrong. I'm getting desperate here. I have tried everything suggested in this thread and in others I have read and the mediaflags still arent showing up. I used Media info plus to rescan my movies and still no go. Here's a nfo created by MIP. It seems to have all the stuff about my file in there, I dont know why it wont show up.

No media flags ??? Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
um... my knowledge of this stuff is very limited but...
have you tried pressing "i" on whichever movie is a problem and clicking on "reload"

Are you running the recommended build of XBMC? Are you running the version of Aeon from github?
edit... it doesn't have the required tags in the studio field... you need to enable skin based media tagging in the MiP settings.

Ok thanks for that, I enabled that setting and it now displays the resolution, but nothing else.. By the way I'm using the 0.91 release of Aeon Stark available on aeonproject.com and the latest windows binary of xbmc. I cant even figure out how to get the mediaflags working so I doubt I'll be able to get the whole github thing figured out. I'm experienced with svn, but not github. If I can get the mediaflags worked out, then I may try my hand at getting the latest Aeon builds from github. I've been using xbmc since 2002 and this is the most trouble I've had with any setting so far. Here's a bit of the new nfo with the skin based media tagging enabled.

Maybe some funny stuff with multiple nfo files? I don't know if you have both movie and movie name nfo's, but have you opened them with a text editor and checked the studio field?

Just as a test manually edit the WMA3 tag to say DTS or something. Also having renamed the movie (make sure you include "SDDVD" or "bluray" in the file name) you may need to reimport into XBMC. What I do is go into the "Videos" section, browse to the actual file, press "i" then go back to the "Movies" section. You might see the same movie twice, one of them will be tagged, the other not... give it a try anyway, the media info doesn't have to be correct, we're just trying to establish if it's working or not.
Well thanks for your help and suggestions. I'm sad that I cant get this working. I wish there was a tutorial on getting mediaflags to work. I know people have them working properly as I see them in the screenshots. I've been messing with this for about 12 hrs now and I'm just at a loss. I dont know what else I can possibly do to get them to display. As you said, maybe it isnt recognizing the wvc1, but it should still display the audio and studio. All it will display is the resolution.. How depressing.

That worked. I guess it just doesnt recognize the WMA3 audio. All my hd movies are wmvhd with wma3 5.1 audio.. Maybe someday soon the mediaflags will support that. Still dont know whats up with the studio not showing up though.. Thanks again for your help. Must get sleep now, I can hardly see straight lol.

I have all my movies in the same folder and there are only nfo's like "300.nfo" and some nfo's with ".oldversion" behind them which are created by MIP I guess.
Yes I have checked the studio tag and it looks perfectly fine. All the other media flags like 1080p/720p and DTS/DD 5.1 etc work like they are supposed to. If I get home I will check if maybe I'm lacking the images for the studio icons.

from your example "Jim Henson Production" to display the tag it is needed that the image of the logo is present in the media/tag directory of the aeon skin and that in the 720p/includes_mediaflag.xml contain a section for this studio (check the post about studio flag in the forum)
2) Source: It has to be in the file name
in the filename there has to be the source of the movie, actualy the only one recognized are: hddvd, bluray, sddvd, hdtv (it is also in the 720p/includes_mediaflag.xml)
3) Resolution: It has to be in the studio tag of the nfo file
Just right what's in your studio tag example
4) Audio: It has to be in the studio tag of the nfo file

Unfortunately it is not an automatic process if you want everything tagged properly, then you need to start learn and coding the includes_mediaflag.xml according to your needs.

Thank you so much :) . It wasnt just the Jim Henson studio, none of em are showing up. I have everything else ironed out. I'm about to check out that link you posted and try to get the studio tags working. Just need to figure out where to put the studio icons. I seriously appreciate everyone's help and information. I hope more tags will be supported in the future.. Mediaflags are such a cool feature.

I concur, and if the link you're refering to is http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/, please wait a few hours before trying that, It will most likely not be enough of the icons for ya right now, we're working on an update literally right now, I just got bored of uploading files and decided to chill in the forums for a few mins.

I have struggled with this a lot also, but am getting closer.
I have a question on the naming for the support files, does it matter much if they are named after the movie name as opposed to movie.nfo? for example
MyMovie-CD1.avi
movie.nfo
movie.tbn
or does
MyMovie.nfo
MyMovie.tbn
work better.
I think fan art always needs to be;
MyMovie-fanart.jpg yes?

Yes, it was very helpful. Everything you guys have posted has been extremely helpful. I now have all tags working properly and I must say it's nice to finally have a fully functioning Aeon! I cant get over how great this skin looks! Thanks again to everyone! Oh and fernferret, your site is great the studio icons are working perfectly. :)

You do need to update the xbmc version the 8.10 doesn't support media tagging as far as I know.

What am I doing wrong? I have also tried MIP and set "support skin based flagging". But still nothing :( I know AAC is not supported but cant even get 1080p or Bluray to display.

I know it seems daunting, but it's really not. Even after all the trouble I was having at first I now realize just how simple it really is. Just make sure your running the latest Xbmc build and latest Aeon. Here's a bit of one of my nfo's that displays all media flags properly. You should also go to FernFerrets site http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/ and grab the studio icon pack. Make sure you get the one for nfo's.
<studio>Constantin Film Produktion / 720p / Bluray / ac-3 / 6ch / </studio>
Maybe you can go by that and get yours working.
OK guys, people have edited the studios to get more, but has anyone made one so when the audio fetched from MiP says MPEG Audio, it will come up with MP3?

EDIT: also one for xvid in the source, i know its not technically a source, but I don't want to edit my file names, and this is what MiP puts in that spot.
Those formats aren't supported in Aeon yet. I'm hoping for support for more media types soon as well. Right now only hdtv, bluray, hddvd, sddvd, dts, and ac-3. Hopefully formats like xvid, x264, wmvhd, etc will be added.. It would look really cool to have media flags for all my media.

You can add more sources / audio. I'm sure there were details posted here somewhere but I can't find them.

Oh, okay, got ya.. Sorry should have read that more closely. If anyone comes across how to add more audio/video sources please post it. I'm very interested in this also. All my hdtv stuff looks great with the mediaflags, but I'd also like to get the xvid and x264 stuff to show up along with whatever audio they may have.
If I edit the nfo file with new information. Should XBMC automatically picup the changes? Or do I need to reload the movie in the library? Also would it be just reload or remove and then reload?

I just remove them from the library and the re-scan them back to the library. Works for me, but I'm sure there's another way to do it. I always seem to end up doing things the hard way. :o
