Since the skin is still in Beta, I know it's only a matter of time before some of the few glaring problems I've overlooked come to light. When that occurs, this is where you should post them.

To help me the most, this is what I'd like to see from an error/bug report:

Operating System - Because it makes a difference.

Rev (build) of XBMC you're using - Are you using atlantis (You shouldn't be), Babylon, or one of the third-party builds? If so...which rev. #?

Section problem is occurring in - Music? Video? Settings? Everywhere?

Screenshot(s) - I am a visual learner. So, press "print screen" in XBMC. Post a link to that picture, and I will visually learn what you're talking about. ;)

Thanks a lot guys.

I've got one. It's the "shutdown menu" bar. It's off-center, looks like some buttons are missing and a couple look non-uniform.

Linux

Everywhere

Another one is the view label in the OSD. I've seen this is movies and TV playback. It's the upper right corner.

BTW, love this skin!

Aaargh! You got me.

That should look like the menu that appears if you scroll all the way past the end of the settings menu in home...which I never quite got the way I like it.

Duly noted...

As far as that view:poster label...I've gotta hunt for it. I looked a bit last night and couldn't find where I had the code for the little SOB. Def. try to find it today. The missing buttons in the top-left have been fixed and added to the download. ;)

Hi!

1st issue -
No matter how I try, I can't seem to enter the Movies or TV Shows menu options, I press "enter" and nothing happens, can't get to the movies or tv shows sections, neither library nor file mode. Music works fine, though.

2nd issue

Weather info works fine, but when I go into window mode, there's just a black windows with a label for the current weather.

My specs.

O.S. Ubuntu 8.10
XBMC version - 9.04~alpha1svn19419-intrepid1 (latest version from SVN ppa, installed from package, not self-compiled)

1. - Can you please enable debug logging, try to access these sections, then post that log to pastebin for me please?

2. - This is simply because I've been meaning to remove that section entirely, but was keeping the label entry so that in the future, I could add another panel to the weather that showed detailed current conditions when that label was highlighted.

Or, to simplify...I forgot to remove it. ;)

I've got another one. Still Ubuntu, r19343. This is what I see when in the movie info screen (highlight movie title and press "i"):

http://monopedilos.com/mediagallery/mediaobjects/disp/d/d_screenshot004.jpg (http://monopedilos.com/mediagallery/popup.php?s=20090413205838802&sort=0)

I don't have secondary art (-cd1 -cover, etc) so that's not the problem. The media flags appear all the way at the top and the masking seems a little off. I know at least as far as Stark is concerned, they use alpha blending rather than simply displaying the image. This way it doesn't matter whether the source icons are black, white, grey, or whatever. Here, it has a endency to look non uniform, and as you can see in the case of the generic studio icon, it gets swallowed up at the top.

Yeah dude...that would be a lot smarter than requiring people make white flag icons, eh? And also, the default icon has been changed. When I was working on changing the studio stuff to include the user-made images, I had that there just as a placeholder so I could see it working...then forgot to remove it. You can actually download a new copy from the page and it has the icon changed already. ;)

The fullscreen info panel is another one of those that I haven't finished either. But I'll def do that with the alpha blending...thanks for the suggestion.

Okay, I must be missing something. What isn't loading? The settings dropdown in movies?

sinarquia
2009-04-13, 18:26
The settings dropdown menu works, but not the options in the menus, or the main option, to make it short, I cannot access my movies or tv shows with Serenity, whereas I can with PM3. Any other info I can provide?

digitalhigh
2009-04-13, 18:31
I see why. I never made dialognumeric.xml, which is what you need to enter the passcode for your videos sections. If you don't enter a code, the window doesn't open. That makes sense.

I will make that right now and add it to the download.

sinarquia
2009-04-13, 18:33
Taking a look at the log, I noticed complaints about "wrong master code". I use the master code to limit access to the video sections (got kids). I had to change back to PM3 to disable the master code for video and now it works.

So I guess Serenity is not asking for the master code if there's one, and so fails to enter the video section, or it could be something else, after all, I'm no coder.

Thanks.

Here...put this in serenity\720p and all should work. ;)

I'll add this to the main download as well, just figured I'd post here so you don't have to re-dl the whole thing.

Great skin, here are a couple of things I've noticed:

1. If I highlight the settings option on the main menu and hit the Info button, everything just goes black. I know on MS and PM3 that is a quick way to get to the system info, including free memory.

2. I also noticed that on the screen calibration screen after hitting select once the bottom right is set, it moves slightly. Obviously not a big deal though.

This is on Xbox using the 4/4/09 T3CH.

1. Haven't made a system info window yet. ;)

2. That was also thrown together in a rapid fashion. Looks like I made the new selected images improperly. I'll fix it as soon as I figure out where in the $*@!% that viewtype label is coming from.

I've literally removed every item in the Video OSD and it's still showing up. Did a grep for "container.viewmode" and "view:" and there is no logical explanation as to why it's there. Starting to make me mad. :D

This may be more along the lines of a feature request, but in playback, I'm used to being able to press "o" and see the player debug info. This doesn't appear in Serenity.

I think I added that window as well in my attempts to remove the viewtype label that was showing up in OSD. I'll have an updated version ready in a little bit after I get a few more changes made. By player debug info you mean the codec info? I mapped my 0 key to reload the skin...meaning I don't know the command.

Can you get me a screenshot from another skin of the debug info? I'm trying it out here and not getting very successful results...

I fixed that and added support for an international USA:R/USA:G sort of thing as added by MIP. This way, you can add icons for your own country's rating system if you want.

I also added the dupe bg for lower rez screens (garyi), and put in the numpad file. Sorry I haven't been more productive the past few days...I'm back to work now, so this means getting up at the buttcrack of dawn and not getting home until 8 at night. ;)

Hey man I have been playing around with your skin a bit and it is awesome here are a few things I have found while using it:

- When using the the keyboard arrows on the shutdown menu and I've found in some of the other menus if you go left for example it will go through each of the options one by one but when you back the other way it will skip some options.

- In the movie library for some reason none of the actors names show up.

- Also this is more of a feature request instead of it saying unknown studio would it be possible for text to be displaying the studio name instead of the default studio icon if there isn't one.

1. Yeah, that's my fault. I put the menu in and never finished it. In fact, there are two seperate menus because I failed to realize the one existed by default until after I had made my own.

2. I don't know the exact reason behin this, and haven't looked into it. It's one I was actually puzzling over last night. Under infolabels, it says it'll return a concantenated string of all actors, etc. I think I need to make it a textbox instead of a label...regardless, I'm aware of the problem, and will fix it as soon as I can.

3. Good idea. Any particular fonts you have in mind? ;)

I'll def. throw that in at this same magical time when I have some freetime to myself. :D

not really a bug, but don't know where to put it.
Serenity has of late been really slow at scrolling a large list in library or file mode (movies or tv).
using horizonz or pm3 it is quicker.
Is there anyway of making scrolling faster within serenity?
cheers,

Try dropping this in your serenity/720p/ folder. My guess is that it's due to the fanart trying to switch while scrolling that is slowing things down.

So, I changed the animation in this file...see if it helps or not. If not, I'll try some other things...

nah adding me includes no different. Anything else I could try?

Turn on debug logging, I supposed, try scrolling, and then post that log.

It's gotta be a problem with something trying to render while scrolling. A thumbnail or something?

Also, does it happen when you have a particular info view enabled or anything? As in...only large or small info? Or is it just slow whenever you're in list mode?

IDK...gimme that log first, I'll see if it can't tell me something useful. ;)

I will turn in debut logging and try scrolling then I will do it again in diferent views. Normally I use large info and it is slow in file view and library mode. Will post later wen I have a chance to get to tv.

Also, what input device are you using to control the scroll? (Ha...that rhymes). I noticed that in recent builds, the right trigger on an XB1 controller (scrolldown) causes the program to crash entirely. Now that I think about it tho...this doesn't sound like a related problem.

scrolled down, scrolled up. Then went from large info mode to small info mode, scrolled up and down then powered off xbmc.

Debugging is under settings/system/hardware ;)

Looking at your log, it really does strike me that the problem is in the fanart yet. This tells me that it's loading/unloading a lot of images to memory in a short time:

I will look at the fanart stuff again, see if I can't tweak the settings a bit more.

You could also try updating to a newer svn build of XBMC...it's *possible* that it could help. I've got family stuff to do today, so I won't be able to play till later tonight. But I'll post again when I've got something else for you to try, k?

Yep no worries. It works fine just sluggish on scrolling.
I will try a later osx svn. Currently on babylon beta 1 so will see what is avb.

Is it regular up/down or page up/page down that's slow...or both?

Regular up down. Pageup pagedorwn does not work on apple remote. Tried adding pup and pdown to hold left and hold right but that did not work. So just regular press up or down

Been playing a bit tonight, and I don't know if it is intentional (or not), but Serenity appears to be trying to load each fanart as I scroll down as opposed to how it seems that Horizonz/Mediastream do it. On the other skins, the fanart only changes when I actually stop scrolling down and not try to change fanart on every step of the scroll down?
Horizonz and Mediastream certainly scroll a lot faster than Serenity (but I love Serenity more).
Cheers,
Dean

Well then, I think I'll have some good news for you. First, I *think* I fixed your problem. I started by copying the exact animation used in Horizonz to see how it works. I then realized why I disliked that animation so much, which is because it shows the default bg every time you go to the next movie. SO, I reworked that animation so that it *should* scroll fast, but still not leave a gap when switching to the next item in the list.

I am uploading a build presently that includes these changes (as well as the long-overdue default poster images for movies and albums).

I've also been thinking about your search feature, and I *think* I may have come up with a method that will allow you to pick the start letter to sort from. I hope to be able to work at that tomorrow.

SO...try out the new build, should be upped in 10 mins, and hopefully tomorrow I can add your search dialogue. ;)

Alas. No different still the same slow scroll speed.

Also just tried aeon Auriga. That has faster scrolling too and also a search button. But still too cluttered. That is why I really like serenity and would love to have it scrolling that bit faster.

Give it a second...I just squashed another bug I accidentally created whilst toying around. I also tweaked the posters in TV list mode, this seems to make scrolling there faster.

What happens if you map regular old left/right to the held-down buttons for your keymap? My biggest problem in figuring out where your problems occur is that I can't emulate what you have, and in scrolling for me (on dev PC, HTPC, and Xbox) everything is smooth as butter...

deano72
2009-04-27, 20:15
Yeah, scrolling on my mac is nice and fast as well...
at the moment, the keymap has BigStepBack for hold left and BigStepForward for hold right.
Are you asking for me to add just left and right to hold up and hold down?

deano72
2009-04-27, 20:17
ooh, one more thing, would i be changing this on global settings or myvideolibrary in keymap?

It should be the global setting you're changing...that would explain why holding doesn't do anything. The bigstepback and begstepforward commands are for playing a video.

Try changing to scrollup and scrolldown in global, if that doesn't work (although it should), then try changing them to regular left/right.

many thanks. I am changing the keymap in userdata to have ScrollUp and ScrollDown in Hold Left and Hold Right Respectively. If that does not work will try just putting left and right (not up and down for scolling up or down? I was thinking left and right were to give movie info [right] or left to go back to genre/title/etc at top toolbar])?

I guess that kinda depends on your preference...in panel/poster/fanart views, left/right are scroll. In list view, up/down would scroll. I really think that the scroll commands will work...I didn't realize you were putting them in the video section instead of global...

deano72
2009-04-27, 21:03
No. Never put them in video section before. The bigstep commands were in my global.
I will try the scroll commands and let you know. Would replacing the bigstep commands then stop bigstep whilst watching a video?

Yes. But you should be able to put them in videoosd and still have them work.

tried the scroll commands in holdleft and holdright. tried it out in poster view, still scrolls slowly left or right this time.
tried adding them to holdup and holddown and in list view, still scrolls slow.
Just wondering why in other skins i never had to change keymap, it scrolls by default quite fast....strange.........

Should I try and have my films have no fanart? See if that has any effect (don't really want to do it, but it looks like the loading of fanart is the problem in trying to show fanart on each move down the list when scrolling)?
Cheer,

Added file to 720p settings in serenity. Restarted xbmc. It is marginally better still going down one film at a time slowly but tiniest bit faster. I am now going to try my source without fanart and see how that fares.

The file I sent you use the same animation as Auriga, so...I mean, IDK what else to try.

I can try another configuration of the animation where it takes longer yet before it renders the fanart...

That's good. It turns out that there is, in fact, a built in search function for the library. Wow.

I think i have cracked it! I have removed ALL Artwork (fanart and folder.jpgs) from within film folders on my shared drive. Re-added source and let xbmc do the fanart biz online without any artwork on my hdd.....worksfaster than other skins now.
will test fully tomorrow morning but looks promising.

You should look in the cache folder for XBMC now and see what resolution the downloaded images are saved at. I wonder if it's just a size thing...

Either way, here's another version for you to try. I set a delay on the visible animation more, so that it shouldn't appear when going file-by-file quickly.

In TV section, SHOW text doesn't get changed to black when highlighted. All the other TV Shows text turns black. Came across it accidentally when I had a white background.

Navigation issues...
Going into a section, pressing Backspace requires 3 presses to get back out.

Main menu, pressing up from root row takes you to TV Shows.

Main menu, pressing down from settings then pressing up, takes you to apps (submenu).

Select settings from Main menu (by pressing on it), takes you to TV Shows.

I will work on this tomorrow...easy fixes. Thanks for pointing these out to me. ;)

Depends on how you installed XBMC, and that on OS. Wherever your advancedsettings.xml file...it's there.

For windows, it's "C:\Documents and Settings\b\Application Data\XBMC\userdata\Thumbnails\Video\Fanart"

using it under windows?
C:\Program Files\XBMC\userdata\Thumbnails\Video

or under your user application data folder .. can't remember the path for that

using it on xbox
wherever xbmc is running from + \userdata\Thumbnails\Video

i've almost got the compression tool ready for use.. even in it's current state it can recompress those images down to usable sizes.. i'll get it posted on mip's website this evening.

I've updated mip's studio list and added a tool that can be run to get the latest versions of that as well.
looking into adding that to mip update so all the studios are up to date

need some details on the skin as well to add those options in.. i think it would be cool to have it update mip, the studios, and serenity :D .. heck, i might even add in the xbmc update to it as well just so i only have to run one thing.. but maybe not..

Hey I just downloaded the latest version last night and the shutdown menu is now working like it should . Actors are still not working and I'm not sure what font for the studio text, the unknown studio font is actually pretty cool but I dont know if that will fit with the theme of the skin or not.
