Add another entry to "rolling band" menu

Sorry for not knowing the right name for the navigation component... one small question - can I in any way make a "custom" entry called eg. Children in the menu?

Sure can, edit the xml files.

I have links to plugins, scripts and even to an external mythtvfronend.

The files should be self explanatory. If not do a search, this is asked near daily .
