View Full Version : Nvidia driver requirements for XBMC 9.04 Babylon Alpha 1 release
I have an ATi 2400HD Pro on one system and integrated HD3300 graphics on the other, both systems running Ubuntu 64 Intrepid. I had it working GREAT on the 2400HD Pro system, but then saw the 9.04 release and had to try it. I couldn't upgrade, so I decided to uninstall and then install the 9.04. Trying to install 9.04 from the command prompt revealed I need the nVidia driver on my system, which I am reluctant to do. As I am not sure if this will be a problem.
Do I simply need the driver on the system, or do I have to have a nVidia graphics card running on that driver? ???

That one should be plainly obvious, just how is the nivida video driver going to know what to do with ATi 2400HD Pro hardware ?
EDIT: sorry misunderstood your question. There's a bug in 9.04.alpha1 that requires the nvidia driver even though it's not used when running other video hardware. That's been fixed in svn.
Was that fixed added before last night? I tried installing from the SVN repositories around 8PM on 04/07/09, on my new PC with the ATi 3300, XBMC updates are greyed out. So when I get home I will install the nVidia driver and see if the SVN XBMC updates become available.
But before I do that I should fix pulse audio driver setting, since this is a new install of Intrepid of course they are messed up. Wish they had an updated install disc with that problem fixed. I'm still new to linux and have trouble know what to try when something goes wrong.

Got home and install XBMC 9.04 with no need for the nVidia driver. Fixed Pulse Audio config too, but now I video plays back out-of-sync with audio.
