Hi,
I'm new here after discovering this wonderful and elegant software for my HTPC. I installed the latest atlantis version and had DVD problems right away.
I also had very high cpu usage at around 55-65%. Sometimes it would freeze and crash..
I've read through the forums about various issues but did not find a solution so maybe asking a question (above) and telling you about my pc would help..

OS: Windows XP pro sp3
MB: ABIT AV8 Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro Dual DDR400
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual-Core Processor
RAM: 2GB DDR 400
HD: 2x 200GB maxtor SATA
Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X HDCP
Sound: spdif out to D/A converter
DVD: NEC DVD Burner Black IDE/ATAPI Model ND-3540A

Ok it's a little dated but it screams for me..

I had to uninstall the software until I could get some help.
I'm a pc tech but some of the terminology used here is for programmers and programming is not my forte..

Any help?

Atlantis is outdated. You're going to want to install one of the latest 3rd party builds which you can find in the stickies of this forum. Also, what skin are you running? If you are running Aeon Stark, then these issues you are having can be due to running it on Atlantis.

Better yet, how about trying the latest pre-release alpha build (http://xbmc.org/blog/2009/04/05/xbmc-904-babylon-alpha-1-released/)? These builds are tagged very carefully and compiled by development team members, so that we can reference a known quantity when working to get to the next stable release.

Please post your results regardless of which route you choose, SVN or alpha.

I Tried Jester's latest build and it's working just fine, Still processor hungry but I'll take it for now. The dvd issue is all but gone. My DVD drive is on it's last leg. I have a new Pioneer DVD burner on the way.. If the alpha build is lighter on the processor I'll try that but overall Jesters build is working well. Thanks for all your help. I'll post any other issues here if warranted.

Isn't Jesters latest build a few weeks old? Try some of the others from the sticky! Or the alpha of 9.04.
