View Full Version : USB wifi receiver
Hey all,
Anyone know if one of these will work with XBMC live?
Unable to fit a WLAN card in so have to resort to a usb dongle.
Cheers
afaik non-atheros cards should work out of the box, A/B cards may be non-aetheros. G cards is usually (always?) atheros and needs madwifi (which is not added to Live, but relatively easy to add incase your somewhat used to linux).
Check http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=336
for supported cards. And madwifiīs homepage aswell.
I believe atheros starts to get supported by the kernel now as my works out of the box in jaunty but that might be that they have included madwifi, not read up on it yet.
And know that even if you get your card to work in Live we donīt have a simple way of configuring it and you need to go terminal. Or running XBMC with admin rights might work aswell (then you can configure network).
I am working somewhat on simplifying it and to have it work in userspace but havenīt really gotten the time to finish it yet.
In short, it works but itīs a hassle to set up :)
EDIT: This is a good read. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported Still just because itīs supported in ubuntu itīs no garantue it will work in Live, itīs a start though.
Cheers,
Tobias

You are talking about cards but I'm enquiring about a usb wifi receiver. Does it work the same as teh cards in setting it up?
Thanks for the reply! :)
