Hi guys,
I got an oldish Dell GX280. It's P4 3GHZ, 2gig RAM (dual channel) and GMA 900 (). I get pretty bad frame drops and sync issues in 720p and my menus with Aeon are sluggish.

My video card options are limited, due to the size of the case and power supply (which is priority Dell rubbish). The X300 is the only one I'm confident will run.

Will this have any improvements to the 720p playback or is it 100% solely a CPU thing? And will it speed up the interface?

Thanks guys.

x300 will not help. Try a nVidia that can do VDPAU

So unless its VDPAU, GPU has nothing to do with video playback?

Pretty much. The video card is mostly used for rendering the GUI. Videos are decoded using the main processor (unless you use vdpau)

Try latest xorg-server 1.6 i think and Intel drivers, that fixed my problems with Dell GX620 just running xbmc used take 30-50% cpu load, and Aeon was so sluggish impossible to navigate now its lightning fast it can even play 1080 stuff with cpu load of 70-80%. I don't know what distro you are using but if its Arch Linux, its in Testing repo.
