Get the latest versions from FernFerret's site:

HERE (http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/)

How-to

Download the latest version of the pack
Unzip it to your main directory for each skin (for example "..\XBMC\skin\Aeon\")
When prompted to overwrite files chose yes. This mod doesn't delete any code, what it does is to add studio logos and some code to make them display properly

FAQ
Q1: Why do I still see question marks instead of my movie producers' logo?
A1: There are two possible explanations. Either the pack doesn't include the logo, or there's no info on film studio in the .nfo file for that film.

Q2: How do I add the producer's name to the .nfo file?
A2: The easiest way is to use Media Info Plus (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47071). Just install, run, scan your media and voila. Be sure to check the option named "Support Skin Based Flagging" (Settings/General tab).

Q3: Where do I request new labels to be added?
A3: Here. Posting a link to a logo to be used would simplify things a lot.

Q4: Why do I see two logos displayed, one over another?
A4: The MIP solution is kind of simplistic. What it does is to make Aeon display all flags that fit the keywords stored in the .nfo files. If there is more than one production company mentioned in the file, all will be displayed - one over another. To prevent that either edit the relevant .nfo file by hand and leave only one company there, or use MIP for that.

Q5: What if I need only one particular logo?
A5: No problem: just go to this site (http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/)and look for it there\

Q6: Is there a way to make MediaInfoPlus show the media icons I chose for my films?
A6: Sure, just copy the flag pack to MIP's directory: ..\MediaInfoPlus\customimages\media\flags. That's it!

No problem. Newmarket logo is too tiny though, it doesn't look that nice IMO. Got any better image to work on?

i went through my library yesterday and found some missing studios:
Imagine Entertainment
Lakeshore Entertainment
Marvel Enterprises and/or Marvel Studios
Village Roadshow Pictures

these are tiny production companies so it might not be easy/worth it to add:
Andreevsky Flag Film Company
Ascension Pictures
Les Chauves-Souris
Picture Farm

This any better?Actually this is the one I used. However, it's a matter of proportions: in order for the logo to be displayed properly I have to resize it to some 120 pixels in width. And then the letters become too small. Don't they have a squarish logo design as well?

Open Aeon Stark/720p/Includes_MediaFlags.xml in your favorite text editor (Notepad++ I suggest) then you have to manually add new studios. So find in the XML where it has studio tags. For example.
<control type="image" id="81">
<include>Furniture_PanelMediaFlagsVars</include>
<texture>flags/newlinecinema.png</texture>
<visible>substring(listitem.studio,New Line)</visible>
</control>

So to implement Marvel you would just copy and paste that and replace the proper text.
<control type="image" id="81">
<include>Furniture_PanelMediaFlagsVars</include>
<texture>flags/marvel.png</texture>
<visible>substring(listitem.studio,Marvel)</visible>
</control>

You would also need to drop the Icon of course into the Aeon Stark/Media/Flags folder.

Also take note depending on the view type, showcase, info, etc. DJH has multiple instances of the flags showing up. So you may have to add 2 or 3. Just skim the code and find all the different parts. You are mainly concerned with Showcase view however.

EDIT: Kryp2nite beat me to it. :)

Another piece of advice would be to use Media Info Plus, which now is capable of storing the label info in .nfo files it creates. You'd have to manually edit ..\MediaInfoPlus\mystudios.xml, but that's pretty simple. OTOH this won't eliminate the need to do what Kryp2nite described above.

Hopefully some or all of these will make it to future releases of Aeon, so you won't have to move a finger.

I think that faster and much easer way could be that Aeon read from .nfo file from <srtudio>xxxxx</studio> tag and just serch in media\flags folder image with same name xxxxx.png and just display it if it exist if not just dont display anything. So we could just make custom images and put them just to media\flags folder in Aeon skin. In that way we dont need to modify Includes_MediaFlags.xml everytime when we want to add new studio image. What you think?

Ps. Sorry for my english.

Halibutt
2009-04-06, 01:15
Well, that would be nice. However, there is one possible issue: in order to be universal, the filenames should be short and one word. So if not XBMC or Aeon, then the MIP would have to contain a list of names, translating, say, metro.png into Metro Goldwyn Mayer. After all what you get from some online movie database is a full name, and not the name of the file, right? But that's solvable and indeed your solution seems fine. Perhaps you could propose it as a feature request?

Thanks for your work on these. I would do it myself, but don't know how to make images transparent. What program are you using?Hmmm... any? :) Seriously, I use GIMP, which is free and works just fine with basic images, but basically any program for raster gfx would do. For vector graphics I use Inkscape.

And no, MS Paint is not for graphics. It's for kids, which is a different case.

By chance could someone remake the newmarket icon. The one on the first page has rough edges. As I said, I see no way to make it look nice right now. The logo is either too long, or the letters too low to make it look good resized to 120px width. Unless of course someone finds a larger image - or prepares a scalable vector version of the logo, which would be even better. I'm no expert though and if anyone feels like proving me wrong - feel free to do so. :)

Isn't it too wide? I don't know, but all _djh's icons are roughly 125px wide and/or 80px high, not to cross space reserved for other things. That's why I kept my icons equally small. But if this one fits, then that's great

Here's the XML for the newest ones (since the last XML post)
You're my hero! I prepared a proper release (first post). Just unpack it to the Aeon Stark directory and that's it :)

And another one from my to-do list: Syrena

**Wow Search FAIL, Apparently searching for Europa didn't return this topic, that I had ironically posted in... *facepalm* oh well.

In other thought, which is correct, white or black images?

I also threw together a small script that could be used to keep track of all of these rather than a forum post, it's just an idea:
http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/

It has the one I made on it.

Presuming other others don't have a problem with it, i'll start adding more as they appear here, and eventually add a user add button.

In other thought, which is correct, white or black images? Both work just the same way. All is fine as long as they are monochromatic. And the black ones are better in that they can be posted on a forum - and be seen against a white background.

I also threw together a small script that could be used to keep track of all of these rather than a forum post, it's just an idea:
http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/Errr... what does it do? I feel it has some great potential, but not sure where...

haha i've been messing with it for a bit, as in now it actually has more than one image, I have added a add page for users to upload (not enabled, i dont have captcha on it yet :) )

Basically right now it's too tough, I feel to find these images in a forum. I could totally see this thread used for requests, then they all get posted to this script for all to download.

Eventually (next week) I hope to have something like a checkbox system, for example:

You need image X,Y,S,P,T but none others, so with some clever ajax magic, you check boxes next to those images, and a single zip file is presented to you with all the images you requested, and the xml in 2 seperate files. Another option would be to upload your current xml file, and have the script modify it.

Thoughts?

Also, maybe i'll but a b/w tag in the xml file so the script can handle either black or white images (i'll actually do that now)

--FF

Halibutt

The idea seems nice, though downloading a single zip from the forum seems like a better option, as it's pretty much a one-size-fits-all solution: you don't have to pick the flags you think you might need - all are there, including the ones you don't know yet you'll need.

As to black versus white images, both are fine and both work exactly the same. IMHO there's absolutely no difference for end-user, so there's really no need to use the white version anywhere.

2009-04-09, 08:51
Well it's just a little project that i've already started so I might as well finish it, i'll at least try to keep it updated.

The thing is that there are a LOT of obscure studios out there, and I guess there could be a zip of them all, but when does that get updated? When it does, I don't want to get them all again, especially sorting through the XML code for 200 or so studios when I picked up a copy just the other day, and found out I needed one more. Basically I'm just bored and thought it would be something cool to do.

Also: no reason the script woulden't have a "Download all" once i get the zipping working

Since I set this up using XML, i'm thinking i'm gonna just have mine auto download images, that way I would never have to update, but that is a little while down the road...

could the "packed" zip your site would provide also contain code that you just could cut and paste into the media flags xml ?? cause if it did that would be kewl :)

FernFerret
2009-04-09, 11:08
I was thinking that you would just upload YOUR .xml file, and it would modify it, and include a new one in the .zip. The issue with doing it your way (not really an issue as your way would be much easier :) ) is that you would have to paste twice.

Hmmm. The latest .xml file by Stagecrew is somehow broken, my labels do not show up properly any more. Anyone spotted where the problem is?

Speaking of which: how does Aeon know which gfx to display? If the xml file is the key, then perhaps we should use the names that are used by MIP - that is the names taken from the IMDB database. However, it also appears to be coping quite well with shortened names as well, while IMDB uses full names at all times (like Kamera Film Studio instead of just Kamera). Anyone?

Cheers

FernFerret
2009-04-10, 01:15
Well the reason people use the short name, is that way if something scrapes wrong, it will still go through:

Example:
Pixar Finds:
Pixar
Pixar Studios
Pixar Whatever

The thing is if you use a Unique enough key, no problems will arise, plus some movie companies have 2 or more names, but all share a key phrase. This is at least my thinking behind it.

As proctor has said, you need to paste it twice in the file (slightly different modifications), which is why I see it beneficial to be able to simply upload your xml file, and have the script insert both cases of all movies for you.

That studio string matches both of your tags,

"Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation"

"Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation"

That isn't really a fix though... A company SEARCH (http://www.imdb.com/find?q=fox;more=co) for FOX on imdb returns 386 results.

We may have to compile a global lookup table or some code based solution or else that XML file is going to become unmanageable.

There is a slight blur on the background side of it from the original image having shadows. Try this Morgan Creek, hopefully it is better. That's precisely the one I was using. It's too small and too blurry to look good, but I uploaded an improved version to FernFerret's site (HERE (http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/)). Don't expect anything fancy though.

EDIT: found a better one. Hope you like it:

BTW, FF, I can't update the pic on your site, could you do it? The one I uploaded earlier is really crappy.

[IMG]Would be great. :)
Now those are reasonably-sized logos to work with! Uploaded both to FF's site (link above).

That is where i'm trying to compile a global lookup for these flags. If you want to help, let me know and i'll hook you up with some credentials.

We can make the script know ALL tags (even the stock ones) and it can double check for conflicts!I had my doubts at first, but THAT is precisely what your site could be used for. Kind of a meeting place for Aeon Stark on one side and Media Info Plus and IMDB on the other.

Be sure to let MIP guys know what we're doing here so that they could implement a solution in their program. Currently it works well with the standard icons and their names (the majors implemented by _djh by default), but it kind of chokes on more complicated names. A possible solution for MIP would be to check the producer at IMDB (as it does currently) and then cross-check with our database if there is an icon there - and under what name. I hope I made myself clear, it's getting late... :)

Hey there...I was literally just going through this thread manually pulling down all the images and xml to include all these studios with Serenity. Didn't see your sig until I got to page 8 or so. ;)

So, now I'm working at inverting and scaling all of these pics so they fit properly in Serenity.

In case it'd help you at all, I'm using a very similar method to djh. After reading through this thread, I quick made some changes to the code so that it should be quite easy for future additions.

Here's an example tag from my setup:

<control type="image">
<include>StudioFlagGuts</include>
<texture>studio/abandon.png</texture>
<visible>substring(listitem.studio,Abandon)</visible>
</control>

I do, however, use slightly different dimensions for my pics. 200x100 instead of 160x109, and white instead of black. Batch converting all of these was fun. ;)

Just thought I'd pop in and say "high" as my skin now has support for your site despite the fact that I just added it this evening. Very cool idea. You want my collection of TV network logos?? I think I've got over 40 or so.

Not sure how I would go about coding MIP for this, one way would be to grab the studio list and modify the current mystudio.xml file to include those items. That file in mip is used so you can select the studio manually per movie.

then in the dialog that pops up for studio selection, i can attempt to match it to the list using the names from the xml, showing the image that would be displayed for it.

to dynamically assign the studio to the .nfo file from the imdb data, cross referencing to the list, might be abit tricky without user intervention

but... this might work
have mip grab the latest and greatest list and images, cache them (like all the other images).
add a filter to mip for studios that don't match or return more then one result
- take current textname, convert to lower case
- take all known studio names with images, convert to lower case
loop through movie data and attempt to match the one in the information to a known one.. count the number of matches
if match count is zero .. fail - no direct matches - display studio selection dialog
if match count is 1.. good
if match count is > 1 .. fail - more then one match - display studio selection dialog

of course all of this would be user selectable and disabled by default.

one way to find the list of studios would be to have someone with a large collection send the database from xbmc and look into the studio table for the list of studios it's read up from the movies and shows (it stores that data from shows in xbmc currently, it just dont' link back to the show in xbmc's gui yet)

Wow dude, are you freaking psychic or something? I was literally just going to write a suggestion in the MIP thread requesting that we get something like this going, but couldn't think of a method that sounded pretty enough. This could be it.

I like the sorting function, that sounds like it could be quite feasable. Another thing to look at would be label searches we use to determine which studio to show. IDK...don't wanna threadjack here, but yes, that would be very awesome. I was not looking forward to redoing all my studios by hand again... ;)

Not sure about Serenity, but Stark is ok with both black and white graphics, it's all the same. Apparently even pink or yellow would do, as long as there's not too many colours. Dimensions are a bit different thing though.

You want my collection of TV network logos?? I think I've got over 40 or so.Well, we've added some TV networks already, but only those that publish films as well. The reason is that in Stark there's no way to display those when browsing TV series. It would be nice though and I'm sure _djh would include that at a later stage.

I got some new requests for you (I hope I'm not double posting any requests :\)Working on it. :)

Here's one I made for Excel Entertainment, the studio for Saints and Soldiers. and some requests aboveSadly, I'm pretty sure the ones you made are too big for stark. Apart from the gfx size itself, the image within the file should be no larger than 125 x 83 px. Otherwise there's a fair chance the studio image crosses into the place occupied by sound/video source icon in Stark. To be frank I didn't check that myself, I simply assumed _djh knew what he was doing and followed the lines set by the studio gfx he prepared himself. It could be I'm totally wrong and perhaps Stark would even work fine with those larger images. If that's the case, please don't tell me that, not after so much work :D

Not sure how I would go about coding MIP for this, one way would be to grab the studio list and modify the current mystudio.xml file to include those items. That file in mip is used so you can select the studio manually per movie.(...)Hello there, good to have you around. My idea (and a suggestion to FernFerret) was to enhance his site to include at least two names for every pic: a shortened name ("Fox" instead of "20th Century Fox") and a full name identical to the one IMDB uses. After all they have pages on companies as well, why shouldn't we use their standard.

This way there'd be no ambiguity, while still keeping it simple and usable for all those programs out there not as smart as MIP is. What do you think?

Now that I think about it, the difference in dimensions isn't probably anything that even needs to be worried about. They get scaled down to 50/60 pixels either way, and the little bit of difference in width shouldn't require any modifications.

They do need to be white, however. I use black backgrounds...

The network logos are encoded in the same process in MIP using a custom numbering system and the rating tag for show-level browsing, and a stringvalue inserted into listitem.director for each individual episode. These tags look like this:

<director>Michael Engler / USA / TV-PG / / SDp / MPEG Audio / 2ch / </director>

MIP can do this automatically for every episode. ;)

Updated Serenity to be indifferent to the color of the image now. Provided the dimensions are close to 200x wide and 100x tall, there shouldn't be any problem going between skins...

Can anyone with awesome Photoshop or image editing skills make a 768p flag?

Is there a flag that is being used for AAC?

Does anyone know how to get MIP to allow you to manually edit the skin tag. When I make changes to it, it doesn't save them to the nfo file. If I manually edit the nfo, MIP changes it back to whatever it detects.

Yeah I have skin flagging enabled, but when I attempt to edit the skin tag field in MIP, once you refresh and click on the movie again it just resorts back to whatever it originally detected and then saves the nfo automatically. I can go and fix all the ones that are off, no big deal but it would be a pain to have MIP just overwrite the changes back to the originally detected tags.

Maybe I just need to reinstall it?

Edit1: I just got the new build 2870 and it still doing the same thing.

Edit2: I think I found a work around for the meantime... not sure if it will work. I am at work and can't really test it cause XBMC loads horribly slow over VNC on my measily DSL connection . I just editted my Include_MediaFlags.xml so that for every instance of substring(listitem.studio,720p) I added | substring(listitem.studio,768p) to it and hopefully that will make the 720p.png load for any movies that have a 768p tag

Edit3: I tested it and now showing the 720p image for for all my files that are tagged 768p by MIP.

I guess the reason for the transparent frame is that the icon is displayed right next to another icon (resolution or sound AFAIR) and without the transparent border they would overlap. Hey y'all, here is why this is taking so long: I was stupid.

I coded the script to just use an xml file, and edit it when needed, well it started getting way to hairy to keep doing that so now there is an ALPHA version that i am testing that uses MYSQL, that will export an XML file.

People who add images, (you know who you are :) ) you will be receiving a PM later today with the new info, it shouldn't look any different, but it will have a few more fields:

imdb_title and others.

Thanks for your patience,

Ok everyone the XML support is DONE! Now there is one bad thing... We (the picture uploaders and myself) have to rebuild the database, basically just resubmit ALL the pictures. So until that gets done there may be one or two missing. I just request that people

DO NOT USE THE SCRIPT until my next post.

You can use it, but you won't get them all :)

If you want ALL the studio icons WITH a Standard XML File (The one that comes with the SVN of STARK)
Most users will want this!
Left Click this link:

If you're like me and you have things tag your NFO with source information directly into the Studio tag:
<studio>Art Linson Productions / BluRay / 720p / DTS / 6ch / </studio>
then use this link
http://www.fernferret.com/xbmc/mediaflags/getFiles.php?source=studio

Also, I know it's not very good (typed it really fast) but please read the readme and help me make it better.

On a Third note. If you find any that Don't work/Wrong etc. Please post them here so they can be updated!

1. The XML file doesn't support reading the video source from the folder name
2. There are a bunch that overlap. Example: Industrial Light and Magic shows up on any film with the letters "ilm" in its studio tags.. so thats any with the word "film" in them as well

There are also some that were in Aeon and are now listed twice or have two logos for some reason:
- 20th century fox
- revolution studios
- columbia tristar (once as columbia, once as tristar)

As for the ILM problem. Are there even any movies by ILM since it is only a special effects studio.

Maybe we could have a small app that reads all studios from the XBMC database and then upload the list to the page, where it is compared to the already available studios. All studios that do not have a logo yet can then be filled by users/designers with a logo. If some people upload their list we can see which ones are popular and fill them up.

I'll get ILM fixed, let me know if there are others, eventually the script will check for that but i've worked on it for about 8 hours today and i'm just bushed.

ccMatrix: Thank you for catching these, I had had them in there for testing, and they need to be removed.

EDIT: Were removed, except for the FOX one, as it is for the TV network (Eventually supported by AEON, but currently in there for Serenity).

I have my video folders named via the source, then i use Media Flag Updater (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48138&highlight=Media+Flag+Updater) to turn that source into the nfo file, I just prefer all my info in the same place.

For the flags that make problems, maybe you could use something like that:
substring(listitem.studio,Century Fox)
substring(listitem.studio,FOX,Left)

If I understand the Wiki http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=List_of_Boolean_Conditions correctly this will only search from the beginning. This could also be a solution to the ILM issue.

The problem with the imeadiate fix is that these cases are anomalies, and i dont (currently) support anomalies. Remember this XML file is being generated based on the list of names it is given. I just need to add a custom code field to the database, and voila problem solved, i'll see about doing that tomorrow.

ccMatrix: My apologies, I simply overlooked your post on Boolean conditions and have found a solution to all of this madness, although let me state that it will take a little while for all of us to get this sorted out.

Here is an example for fixing "tor"
substring(listitem.studio,tor,Left)

This way, as long as tor is what is listed via MIP and others (we'll have to get people to confirm this) and this is what we were working for, a way to detect exactly what studio, tor will be returned if and only if tor is at the beginning and the end. (unless someone has some super weird studio named torator or something...)

EDIT: I have now added a "custom code" field to the database, where we can manually manipulate tricky studios

I will be doing many of these fixes today, thanks for your patience.

Possibly two different people submitted the same studio image under different names and thus it got added separately?

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

I have seperate icons for studio canal and canal+ for serenity.

I don't know if this is correct, but several of the james bonds come up with 'eon productions'... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055928/

I can't find a studio icon for them anywhere... anyone know about this?

I assume, by your link, that you are referring to the GOOD james bond movies :) I'll check it out if i get a chance, maybe a logo can be pulled and remastered from one of the films.

I know its not strictly related, but can someone make an image for MP3, as in the audio codec. All my files are xvid, which MiP puts into the Studio tag. I have edited the mediaflags.xml so that when it finds xvid it shows the DVD logo, however my xvid that are 2 ch MP3 rather than ac-3 show nothing.

With a nice MP3 image I could then add MPEG Audio to link to the MP3 image and all would be well.

Thanks if anyone can help.

It might be to do with the exclamation point... That's also known as a "not" in the programming world. So it's effectively saying if the text "factory" is not in the string (which it rarely would be) then to display the icon. I'll look into it.

@FernFerret -

Any word on the Serenity support yet? As soon as you get a working model going, I'm interested in developing a script that will automatically update the skin's studio icons with no interaction required on the part of the user...

But first I need support! ;)

Edit:

Also, the code for studio "Disney" needs to be changed. There's no logical reason that Pixar and Disney should be grouped together in the same category.

Should be:

<control type="image">
<include>StudioFlagGutsBig</include>
<texture>studio/disney.png</texture>
<visible>substring(listitem.studio,Disney) + !substring(listitem.studio,Pixar)</visible>
</control>
<control type="image">
<include>StudioFlagGutsBig</include>
<texture>studio/pixar.png</texture>
<visible>substring(listitem.studio,Disney) + substring(listitem.studio,Pixar)</visible>
</control>

FernFerret
2009-04-25, 23:24
The reason they are grouped is because that's the way djh_ had it. all of this can be changed and tweaked.

I'll see about serenity support later today, but wasnt there an issue with image formats? Will i have to have my script add more pixels to the images?

--FF

EDIT: I'll try to get all the images that people have submitted added, It's just a pain right now to add them under your names, and i want to give credit, so they will get added, trust me :)

It seems the new Multiplex view has an issue with the studio icons being black as everyone is noticing. Changing them all to white fixes this problem.

I've tried changing / adding a colordiffuse tag to the Multiplex coding but this doesn't help. This looks like the culprit here. They 'are' working. It's just a bit hard to see them as you're displaying black icons on a black / dark gray background.

I know it's not a permanent solution but inverting the colors for now seems to be the only one at the moment.

Hope this helps.

I think that if people get one thing out of this thread it should be:

There are MANY people working on media flags, but djh_ and digitalhigh are supporting these cool little objects in their skins right now, these are SKIN SPECIFIC FEATURES. Also djh_'s code changes almost daily (which is awesome), but it's near impossible to keep up with all of the changes going on. I currently am holding off on supporting media flags via my application for AEON until at least BETA. Now I will be working in the very near future to provide support for Serenity, but that skin IS in BETA, so the one thing that people should get:

Media Flags Are HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL in AEON, as the Code that displays them is subject to change.

now, on that note:
ppic: There are now i think 4 Code changes needed to make your studio thumbs show EVERYWHERE. That is what it was last time I did a Build of my script.
