View Full Version : Brief audio stuttering when switching song in Music

When I skip to the next song in my audio library there is a very brief skip after a couple of seconds from the beginning of the song (happens on every skip to next song). It's no biggie but it's been bugging me since it appeared about 6 months ago. I've been upgrading to the newest builds monthly and the bug haven't gone away.. If this it just happening to me I can purge all configuration files and see if it it's just an upgrade issue.

Any suggestions? I thought I would check with the community before I made a Ticket.

What type of file?
Where are they located (hard drive, network share, etc)?
Debug Log?

The files are standard mp3 files and I've tried a lot of different bitrates with no varied success. I access them through a Windows Vista fileserver through Shares set up on my Windows Vista Media Center PC that don't run anything but XBMC (very barebone).

I've posted a logfile where I skip tracks 2 times.

http://pastebin.com/m577f3228

I can see there is a warning about:

CWin32DirectSound::GetSpace - buffer underrun (notify) - W:14, P:12, N:11

that also repeat itself 2 times.

Hope it's useful :)

There have been a number of bugs fixed in the Windows audio code since the version of XBMC you are using was built, one of which addressed issues with incorrect underrun detection. Please update to the latest pre-release build (Babylon - alpha1 (https://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=87054&use_mirror=softlayer&filename=XBMCSetup-Babylon_alpha1.exe&a=27949388)) and re-test. Post a new debug log if the problem still exists.

I had the same issue when crossfade was enabled (a brief stutter 3-4 secs into the next song). I just disabled crossfade to get around the issue.

Thanks for the input. Will try a newer build first. I do have crossfade enabled so thanks for feedback paco. I'll check it later today and post back.

If this is still the case in Babylon-alpha1 (http://xbmc.org/blog/2009/04/05/xbmc-904-babylon-alpha-1-released/), please post a bug report. This should not be happening anymore.

hi i'm getting this problem,
Windows ver 9.04.1 repack 2
doesn't seem to make any difference whether i use digital or analog output.
shame, never had it on xbox, will have to disable crossfade unless there's a fix please?

2Ghz Athlon shouldn't be an issue?

edit: just noticed the log is full of lines like these, probably relevant?

14:05:02 T:2792 M:164134912 WARNING: CWin32DirectSound::GetSpace - buffer underrun - W:180076, P:173196, O:179580.

Would be nice to see aforementioned log. This does not look to be the same problem.
