Paul, why do the textures need to be compressed to an xpr? Is there a memory advantage to using that over the file structure method already in place with Stark?

thank you very much, will try it out when I get back home. For some reason I don't have any background from the skin, like the black backround bar for the main navigation and any backgrounds for Settings, and when in movies I don't have bg below the covers, its just covers and reflections.

You can run the skin without compressing the files "But it will eat more memory and run much slower" Try it you will see what i mean.

Btw: Playing movies with this version gives no problems?

Paul, think you'll be able to do a wrap-up with 0.91 ?

I think djh changed a couple of textures to do with weather location selection...

Cheers.

When bringing up the full screen movie info page the fanart is right behind the info text, not like the original Stark were the fanart is behind a light grey area. It's impossible to read the text now.

Not too sure why you have a problem as i am using the same version with no problems,
Can you check to make sure you have info_rightpaneltop.png in the info folder thats the grey panel you should see over the fanart. also have you compressed the files to textures.xpr?

Paul,
I have compressed the textures.xpr. the skin plays well with a few exceptions.
It froze my xbox a few times. when I go into the option to calibrate the screen, I dont see any arrows, box etc.

when I pause a film or go forward, backward, the progress bar is very thick, it overlaps the space it should be in. I will try to post screenshots later.

also, I would like to use this on a 480p tv and need to know how to bump up certain fonts. It is very hard to read due to small text. That would requre editing the area that the time and rss feed fits into I would imagine. I would like to change the font to one that is more readable.

also, this is cosmetic but I would imagine that the main scroller for games, movies, etc has the label's locked on a fixed position, but the space in between each label is not even. Would it be possible to get even space between each label, I am a sucker for symmetrical things. Hopefully someone else is experiencing these things as well.

I am using the same revision of xbmc on xbox as you. any ideas?

If I could get these working, aeon stark will be a dream come true for me. For now, I am still using PMIII.

If your running windows then click on xbmctex.exe in the media folder this will create the textures.xpr for you...... not sure how you do it on linux / mac

yep, i got exactly the same thing on XBOX, i cant add any sources because the window is behind everything else and its impossible to see anything - i do see it in the background, lol
Fix would be great.

Hi jarod71. regarding screen calibration it's the same with the original stark i assume it's work in progress with Djh. and the same goes for video navigation i have the same problem again i assume it will be fixed later by djh. the fonts is easy to fix open up font.xml in the 720 folder in the skin and edit the size Values by around +4 just be carefull with some of the bigger sizes or it may look too big it's just a case of trial and error. as far as the skin goes i have only optimized the graphics etc for xbox i have not altered the xml files in any way from the original release but i will include any updates and fixes in the future as they become available.

If you mean will it fast forward or backwords like it does with most other skins then no it wont. But it does not lock up my xbox.
It's a real shame that things like that were not made right first before release(no doubt i will be shot down in flames for saying that)

Paul or anyone...

The one and only issue I have is unlike other Aeon's where the fanart(backdrops) will cycle every 20 seconds. Sometimes I just get all black or it works but then everytime I cycle through movies the fanart for the highlighted movie pops up.

On windows it works perfectly

What size is your fanart? all my fanart is 960x540 if it's over that size then that may well be the problem. if so resize to 960x540 you won't see much difference in quality

mcborzu
2009-04-03, 06:05
Thx for the reply

Yesterday, I took the time and resized them to 960x540, haven't played with stark since, I'll see if that solved my problem.

I might just delete fanart from movie folders I dont really care about fanart, except as background for movies. TV shows I like it to match what I've selected though.

Still early in the release...

any idea what's involved in adding the extra 64mb of ram? you need specialist equipment to do it properly. to be honest i don't think it's worth the hassle or the risk to your xbox one solder splash in the wrong spot and you end up with a large black brick.

There's a discussion inside the other XBox friendly thread that deals with the missing gray transparent backgrounds: http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47795

What fixed it for me was upping to the nightly SVN of XBMC and deleting guisettings.xml so I had a fresh install of the skin. For some people simply deleting guisettings.xml did the trick but for me I had to upgrade XBMC also.

This applied to ANY version of Aeon I tried.

i second the need for a non-xpr version. whatever happens during the compression, appletv does not like it and always has graphical glitches.

Read first post for details:nod: and the reason i compressed the textures into an xpr was to make it simpler
for people with little or no computer skills + the pack is not protected in any case and most textures should be ok after unpacking.
Also this was exclusively created for xbox though i have tested it on my pc running at 1680x1050 resolution with no major graphical errors
Like i have seen in some other threads.
But if you do have problems with the textures i will upload just the textures uncompressed if you like

Paul, trying out the .91 and it is working great. I haven't locked up the xbox with it as was happening with the .9 version. working great and looking good. I am loving the wall view most at the moment. but all views are working well.

We are going to have to recode some of the views in this skin as the multi layers are what kills the xbox.

example 3 images are used just for the look of the one Thumb (there are about 6 or 7 onscreen at once) then you have about another 5 layers in the back this is what kills the xbox to much memory consumption and CPU intensive.

so redoing the textures are not going to solve a lot of peeps problems especially like me that run XBMC in 720P this skin is still a no go.

I feel what you are saying!!!
Like maybe have just one standard/default backdrop? Example: For the Movies, TV Show section just one default pic for the backdrop and just have the Fanart pop up.
No backdrop cycling like in HORIZONZ lite but only on the home page. I think in might save on the CPU and a little on the memory consumption. Just my 2 cents

Paul....

Yes I'm using rev19213-9.04-ALPHA1 that just came out 4/4/09.

The thing that sucks for me is when I'm trying to diagnose a problem, it's hard to pinpoint what's the cause since I'm not so familiar with XBMC.

It seems like all things we're good on my side, concerning rotating backdrops and playing videos, it must have been the build I was using. Once I tried that version everything works. I was chasing that problem for 3 days, maybe a good 6-7hrs chasing solutions that went nowhere.

I am still having issues with running low on memory. After a movie or two, I need to reboot the xbox. What if any animations can we disable to free up some memory? I dont need to see a animation as I focus on one cover in showcase, If it just goes larger with no tween animation, I will be ok with that?

I would like to explore ideas to get this skin optimized. I just want to see my dvd cover and fanart, not too interested in any fancy effects...

The zoom animations can be turned of in the advanced settings this may help a little with memory

The Debug-Kit already has the extra ram. Also the tedious part of the replacement isn't removing the solder it's the replacing it and re-soldering.The points are very small, and it would be real easy to bridge the connections. No special tools other than your basics, just a steady hand and good eyes.

The Debug-Kit already has the extra ram. Also the tedious part of the replacement isn't removing the solder it's the replacing it and re-soldering.The points are very small, and it would be real easy to bridge the connections. No special tools other than your basics, just a steady hand and good eyes.
It's just not worth it and from what i have read in other post's it would not solve the problem

Well, with the new T3CH release it's possible again to play dvd's (.iso and video_ts folders) with this lite mod. Though i cannot start any tvshows (.avi) Seems kinda weird because the dvd files are way bigger. So i think it's due to the tvshow views, correct me if i'm wrong.

Anyone else having these problems?

It's not the file causing the issue. With the TV episodes not playing I believe it's due to being stuck with the black overlay on top of background images, which is eating up memory. I assume the entire background image plus the overlay is loaded into RAM. I've found more freemem available with showcase over panel view.

Just my 2 cents.

I am seeing a very similar issue in trying to play TV Shows. Everything works fine with the 4/4 T3CH with the PH3.HD skin, but from the Stark_Lite skin I can not play TV Shows (.avi or .mpg). Movies play fine in Stark_Lite and the files are of similar origins and codecs. Here are two xbmc log files of me doing the exact same thing, once unsuccessfully with Stark_Lite and one without problem with PH3.HD. Basically just navigating from the home menu -> video -> TV Shows (smb share) -> Top Gear -> Select Episode to Play. Doing it this way it just fails to play and jumps back to the menu.

Stark_Lite: http://pastebin.com/f5a803a71

PH3.HD: http://pastebin.com/f45305347

If I use Library mode to navigate, it generally locks up the system when I select the episode.

Hope these are helpful.

Paul,
where exactly does the zoom animation come into play? I turned it off but couldn't see a difference, the cover of the file selected still enlarges, i noticed it doesnt scrool as smoothly when u u use the trigger on the xbox control, just wondering what zoom does? It did increase my avilable memory however. still testing...

also, will u be updating the skin with the latest mods for genre thumbnails?

Paul, if you find this to be the case, can you post back in here. Be interesting to know if it is. And maybe if any Devs read this they can elaborate further?

-Are all images to be displayed on a single screen loaded into RAM?

This of course is only wild speculation and questions. Any input appreciated.

Yeh I have the genre mod working on my pc and xbox using asphinx/digitalhighs genre posters take a look here http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php
I also have the new sub menu mod working with this i think i will just upload the the extra files as a add on pack which will contain all 47 genre posters including my own james bond poster to make it work just add James bond into your .nfo files in the genre section.

I do check on a daily basis for updates but i wont be able to do more than 2 update packs per week so i intend to just upload where possible the patches etc as a add on pack.
Then every week or so will roll them all up into one upload....:)

I did reduce the size and dimensions of Backpanel.png backpanelplist.png Fanart_back.png and backpanelwide.png all to 480x270 but could not see any improvement in memory and to be honest it looked pretty naff.
if anybody has any ideas on how to improve on memory consumption please do

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I'm currently rebuilding all of my media using MIP, so after that I'll do a clean xbmc install and rebuild all libraries, I'll check mem usage after that and see if I can find and areas for improvement.

Thank you so much paul, It is very good to see people still supporting our good old XBOX Classics. I run XBMC on an HTPC, but I have several XBOXs that act as extenders for that, and I love to run the same skin (or one that looks similar) on ALL systems.

Thanks again Paul! I really appreciate all you are doing to bring this great skin to our ole xbox!. Your prior version runs great with zoom turned off. I will follow your advice concerning the other tips.

One Question? What size did you reduce the backdrops too? I run this on a edtv at 480p so was thinking to make my fanart 480p as well. I currently have the fanart at 540p. also, what display do you run xbox on and do you thing your suggestion for advanced settings of 256 for thumbs is good enough?

I remember reading somewhere I could have a bigthumb for the full screen info view as well but I cannot find that info now. Do you know how to acomplish that?

Thanks Again!

The backdrops in the old pack were 960x540 which is the same size as all my fanart.
But i have dropped the backdrops in the new pack down to 640x360 to see if it made any difference not resized my fanart more as i do not have any problems running it my self. i did notice i gained around 1mb more memory with the new pack which is not much but it's better than nothing. my xbox is attached to a 32" 16/9 SDTV and it may be worth trying smaller thumbs will have a go when i get the time

Hey Paul,

Just an FYI, I picked up almost 5Mb of memory in Showcase mode by reducing the quality of the graphics in /media/showcase and by reducing the size and quality of the graphics in /media/thumbs then recompiling it.

I also removed some .bak files before compiling but not sure that really matters.

So far I can't really see a quality difference on my TV but if you like, check it out and see what you find.

Sure thing, I was bound and determined to get this running smoothly on my XBox, glad to help out.

You want the whole Textures.xpr file or just the changed graphics?

On another note, I also downsized my fanart to 640 and she's really fast and smooth in Showcase now. I'm using a freeware program called Bulk Image Resizer. I download the fanart from the XBox to a local drive, resize it then upload it back.

Before doing these things I had 8-9Mb free just sitting in the Showcase screen, when I would scroll through movies it would drop to 3-4Mb and then back up to 8-9Mb when I stopped. Now I have 12-14Mb free. It doesn't seem like much but it really improved performance.

Yeh i increased the font sizes by around +3 for nearly all fonts except for the ones allredy sized 30 and over did not include my fonts.xml simply because i were not sure if it would look right on other peoples display's. but in future i can include the original as a .bak file and the modiefied one as the default that way you can choose.

Not sure why but my best guess here would be that your running it on something like a 720 tv in which case the graphics i redid would have to be up sampled more than before
If this is the case try replaceing the backdrops with ones size at either 960x540 or to match your tv 1280x720

Is this version worse than the last for you? if this is the case it's either the new sub menumod or the lower sized backdrops causing the problem.
I think for the next release i might leave out the backdrops completely so you can play around with different sizes. but i think in your case reduceing the sizes down further will only make things worse for you. let me know what you all think:)

Just thought I would let you know what I found on my system with a little trial and error.

I am running at 720p 16x9 on a 34" HDTV with the 4/4/09 T3CH release. I found that if I rebuilt the Revision2 Textures.xpr using the 540 backdrops from the first release get a ~2mb gain in free memory over using the Revision2 Textures.xpr as built with the 360 backdrops.

It's more likely the backdrops i am going back to 960x540 as it seems the last revision was a utter disaster. the sub menu mod is now part of the main skin but i will look around for a versio without it to test.

Interesting this. Is it possible that memory is being used in resizing the backdrops from 960x540 up to 1280x720 for those using 720p for their display?

Won't be home from work for about 16 hours, but I'll try running with 1280x720 images at a lower quality and seeing if there's a difference, if no one else has before then anyway.

I'm going to play with the various resolution options to see what gives me the best performance on the projector. I'll report my results.

Also do you guy's prefer the original backdrops or are you happy with the one's i have been using (the choice is your's)
:

I think you should keep your backdrops in at 960x540!
Right now I have just my games, pictures, weather at 720p and Tv and Movies at 960x540.
Its all good for me:;):

Will have a look see what can be done ok

I hope the next revision works better for you guys:blush:

We love all the work your doing Paul! I eagerly await your next revision. I will try to use the textures from Rev1 with 2 and see how it goes. The first Rev was working well. The only thing I hated was that blue highlight thing being off. not sure if that was due to resizing the graphic or it is like that in the original. It wasn't the skin function, only the context menu from the mod, I think...

I truly appreciate all you do for the community....

How do i go from one revision to another but keep the same skin settings?

Just replace everything within /Skins/Stark/ with the new revision.

Skin settings are located in /Userdata/GUISettings.xml

Hey malsbury, could you share you Textures.xpr?
I'll do you one better. I'll share a bunch. Since people have been getting all sorts of results with varied backdrop resolutions I figured I would just make a few and keep switching between them to see the differences.

Too keep them consistent and and since I didn't have paul's new backdrops in anything higher then 540 I just took the original plain 1080P backdrops from Aeon_Stark. I scaled the backdrop images down to 360, 480, 540 & 720 and replaced the backdrops folder in paul's Stark_Revision2.

Here are the resulting Texture files:

Textures.360 (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.360) / Textures.480 (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.480) / Textures.540 (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.540) / Textures.720 (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.720)

I just moved them all to my media folder and then changed the extension to .xpr one by one and reloaded the skin to see the different effect on free memory each of them had. Strangely, I see the most free memory when using the 480 backdrops at 720P. I was seeing 12-14MB with the original Revision2 Textures.xpr, with the 480 Aeon backdrops I am seeing 16-18MB.

Here ya go: http://www.mediafire.com/?m2wznm2gtzz

I also used g00fy1's modified showcase and thumbs images. These gave me an additional bump in free memory of about 2-3MB, but there are some artifacts / blurring / darkening around the edges of lighter colored thumbnails. However, it might be work it since I am now up to 20-21MB free memory.

If you'd like to try g00fy1's changes here are two I made based on the media used above.

Textures.480B (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.480B)
Textures.540B (http://malsbury.net/files/xbmc/Textures.540B)

Hope these are helpful in figuring out what resolution works best on your setup.

I will give that a try. not sure if it will be enough. I went form the first revision with around 17mb free to 6-9mb free on this one. I think the submenu mod effects it as well.

also, Paul, if you could look into it, when you bring up the context menu to switch from dvd to mplayer, or set content etc, the blue highlight i soff onthe right by a few pixels. can we remove that highlight and will the selected item still have white text?

Hi is this what your after see screen shot http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=muzeewuitxe&thumb=5 if it is then i will include it in the next build in a few day's as i want to include a few other things into it. the blue colour can be darkened or lightend. i am thinking of removeing the white bit right in the middle what do you think?:)

Paul when I try this Stark Lite skin or even your Horizons skin on my xbox I am getting error "we require skins of version 2.00 or higher". Any idea?

Running 9.04 compiled 3/3/09
I think you may have made a classic mistake here, Look in XBMC/Skins/
And in the first folder for the skin you should see several folders 720 - fonts - language - media and a skin.xml if the .xml is missing copy one from another skin into this folder it will fix it. But if you only see one folder then that folder has to be put into the root of the skins folder and that will cure your problem. hope it helps

Thanks for you're input i may have a look at those and if there not too big could be included as themes then users could switch to what backdrop pack works best for them.
On memory i am getting around 25mb free on revision2 BUT i am only running on a 16/9 SDTV and from what i have learned from doing The Mediastream and horizon mod is that running at 720 and above will require more memory as it has to upscale the graphics so i would think if you run at 720 then your backdrops need to be aroun 1280x720 i think.

Paul, if you're running on a SD 4:3, in your opinion what would be the optimal size so it doesn't have to upscale? Or does it matter since Aeon is made for 16:9?

Thanks!

Yes, that is what I did. I am new to XBMC so there might be a more elegant way, but I moved them all to the media folder as is. Then you just have to change to another theme, rename one of the files to .xpr and then switch back to the Stark theme. The reason you have to switch out of the Stark theme is that the Textures.xpr file is in use and can't be renamed while the theme is loaded.

Good luck, and report back with any info.

Paul, if you're running on a SD 4:3, in your opinion what would be the optimal size so it doesn't have to upscale? Or does it matter since Aeon is made for 16:9?
For example my pc resolution is 1680x1050 so if a bitmap is smaller than that the cpu/graphics card upsamples the picture this is also the case if i have a bitmap at 1920x1080 this now needs downsampling this results in a hit on memory not a problem for a pc. So in my oppinion if like me your using a 16/9 SD display or even a 4/3 display 960x540 is fine. if you are using 720p display then i would go for 1280x720 as this will not need up or downsampling and should save on memory to my way of thinking.
Or 1920x1080 for a 1080 display though it would most likely kill the xbox:laugh:
Thanks!

As I'm running in 720 I'll test this out and report back.

The way i do it is simple Leave textures.xpr where it is and anything you want to test out i just call em somat like test1.xpr test2.xpr its a really quick way of seeing what works best without wrecking your main textures file

If all goes to plan I will upload this on monday.
As i have added some new Media flags from another post Plus the updated includesmediaflags.xml

The context menu Highlite has been changed so that it's solid blue right across the button
as per request. and all backdrops are now back to 960x540.

Also has any of you had any problems of late with your revision of xbmc as i have had to drop back to the january build as the last one started to lock up in the tv shows section,
and also my music collection would stutter on play back (not a fault of Aeon Stark) as it also does this on pm3HD. Am just Curious to know if i'm the only one or not?

Well i have been messing with this skin / xbox most of the day and now i have gone back to the jan 25th build music play's fine has so far not locked up though it was slow to browse through my Films libray until i resized all my posters down to 400x277 seems a bit better.
I even tried to resize all of the dialogs down by 50% hopeing to save more memory then i noticed that the volume bar was screwed thats why i did not do the thumbs folder for the same reason it screwed up the covers.

Thanks for the continued input any thoughts on something you don't like then feel free to say so as i going to change the main home bar to something different but i can leave it as is for everybody else if it's liked as is?

I've just tested Stark_Lite_Revision2.rar from the mediafire hosting you have in your sig. It looks great but it is performing pretty poorly on my xbox. Browsing through the menus or media is slow. Even the rss feed is stuttering.

Did you read and try the tips at the start of the thread? and yes this skin is intended for The good old xbox try lowering your fanart to 960x540 and lower your posters to something like 400x277 or less. also if you can get the latest revison of xbmc running ok on your xbox this skin will work better, but i found the january build to be more stable on my system. One other thought make sure your screen is calibrated corectly and yes it does make a small difference. also Revision2 was not entirely succsesfull as i were experimenting with smaller backdrops which turned out to be a bad move. Try Revision3 out on monday.

Any changes to boost performance since rev2?
Mostley bug fixes if the last one was worse for you than revision1 then this one will be or at least it should be better. also added in extra media flags made by Hallibut and the fonts are bigger in this release if you find them too big then copy font.xml from revision2 or change the font style in settings. as for memory there is little else other than minor tweaks than can be done with the skin itself, the rest is down to how your machine is setup and run:nod:

Paul...

A little tweak I'd like to try for myself but don't know how to get to it.

You know that transparent white overlay that covers the upper right half of a movie poster, not sure if I like it sometimes it cuts right through someones face and doesnt look good.

I assume its in the texture.xpr, I tried on my copy of regular Stark deleting movieposter_mask.png....thats what I thought was that white overlay image but that didn't work.

Any Ideas? Thanks for the great work!!

hi kruykaze,

I´m expirience the same effct here with rev3 and the nightly build from yesterday. Since i can see harddisk activity through the LED ring it is obvious that the harddisk is working very hard when the mentioned main menu points are marked. Going back to "TV Show" or "Film" the hardisk stops and everything is smooth again.
But what the heck is the xbox doing on my harddisk ??!?

I think your talking about the glass effect. you need to be looking in the thumbs folder.
One little tip for you if your wanting rid of say movieposter_frame.png then create a dummy file of the same dimensions make it transparent and then compress that to an .xpr and name it test.xpr you can then use this file by selecting themes under apperances that way if you don't like it or it does not work then you still have the original file intact. you can even pack your own default backdrops etc into it as the skin will look at the tes.xpr for any file it needs before defaulting back to textures.xpr..... hope this helps you.
If you are having some difficulty let me know and i will make you up a pack to do what you want :)

That's strange coz all the backdrops are of the same size 960x540 and are all .jpg
Have you tried using your own backdrops makeing them the same size as your tv's native display that way the xbox wont have to upsample the backdrops thus saving on memory(In theory)

the revision number. that is last good build and most likely will be the last as the idiots must not test these dam releases before they release them i have wasted dam day's even weeks trying different builds and there all crap.
I have posted a debug log in the hope that arnova might find the time to look into the problem. but i wont hold my breath:no:

Lets all relax people. arnova is the only one working on the xbox port and I am sure he is pretty new to it. I am sure the bugs will get worked out. I am using the Jan 25th build myself.

Paul, does stark lite work with the Jan 25th build ok?

We all knew xbox would take a back seat to the other ports. I am happy for what little support we have.

It work's with the january build but it is very slow, i have managed to improve it by further lowering both my fanart and poster resolutions down even further.

And i can accept that arnova is on his own but you try fileing a bug report like i did as arnova asked me to do and it got rejected. why i ask myself?

I did not realise it did not support TMDB.
I do all my scrapeing with Movie info plus that way i get the added bonus of having
My .nfos tagged for the studio flags. though it did take me a while to work it all
out. it was worth the effort though

As far as i am aware Djh has no intention of supporting wide thumbs, but that does not
mean it can't be done i do hope some skilled coder comes up with a fix for that as i prefer
the wide thumb view for tv shows.
Ps am pleased it works for you

I won't be uploading Revision4 untill the new views that djh is working become available
Hopefully this won't be too long a wait......

I figured out what I needed to do and like the look of it...

Question for further revisions, like Revision 3 you have included all media files plus the .xpr, are those other files ones you have changed or original Stark files? So all I would need to do for further revisions is overwrite my thumbs folder and then compress those files?

Thanks again for your help...

There the same ones as what is in the textures.xpr i included those for a few of the
apple tv users and those people who wanted to add there own touch to it.
Not sure what you mean by your thumbs folder?

Paul, in your last version there was a problem with the glass overlay on all posters, covers etc.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/318691/Covers.JPG

The same problem happened to me when I resized the textures. But I found that by using the original "\Stark\Media\thumbs\" and downsizing the rest of the textures, there was no significant increase in memory usage and all covers looked excellent.

With all of my resized and resampled textures I managed to get Stark running with no problems, the only caveat being that I had to use the default background for TV, not an image folder. But if I can figure out how to get the multiimage control working for the home screen only and disable backdrops / enable fanart only once you've navigated into the TV section I think I'll have a very usable and good looking skin for the xbox.

If you want to have a look at all of my textures drop me a PM and I'll link you to them.

EDIT

Fixed the background image problem. Plenty of freemem now. If someone wants to pm me I'll link them the download for my version of Stark (for xbox) and they can test it. If it's good I'll release it to the wild.

Paul,

As you know I just sent you my version. A couple of other people have it too. So I'll see what they think of it.

Flow really uses a lot of memory on the xbox, so I think it's best to stick to Flat.

Have many textures changed in the Auriga release? Haven't really had the chance to check it out yet.

It's mainly one folder extra for the new list view which adds about 3mb before resizing the textures It looks really good the new view .
i will have a look at your textures to see if they are better if so i will resize my next release accordingly but it may delay it slightly. thanks I appreciate your input:)

In MyVideoNav.xml you can disable the backgrounds completely. That's what I did for the TV section in mine, not sure if you noticed. I'll have a go at that with yours and see how I go. That way you can still have fanart and be able to play media files.

Looks like it was changed in the Auriga version from filename/directory name to studio flag.

The drop is caused by backdrops cycling in the background, even though you can't see them. I'm working on it, but limited of time at the moment. Stand by.....

What's everyone else getting for free memory on the XBox in the movies section in showcase view?

I'm around 14-16 mb sometimes it drops down to 9 or 10 then comes back up. Just wondering if anyone is getting better results.

BTW I'm using Paul's latest version unmodified.
Yes that's roughly what i am getting. I find the tv section worst hit i manage to watch 2 45 mins programs then i have to reset the xbox to clear the memory otherwise it's fine

Just a personal opinion, I liked the previous Genre thumbs better. ;)

Keep up the great work Paul!!!
Erm yeh to be honest i like those but there were just not enough genres in them but i felt
the black ones by asphinx worked better with auriga/xbox as they don't make the textures.xpr any bigger but as i said before this version is really intended for testing and to gauge oppinions as to what people prefer in the pack so if people prefer my old backdrops or the old home bar etc say so as i will not be offended. when things settle down a bit i may produce 2 versions 1: original and 2: My personal choice(or whatever you guys Prefer)

I've resized and created some backdrops for use with the XBOX (960x540)

http://bramvanoploo.tweakdsl.nl/remote/images/Backdrops_960x540.rar

I've made another pack with the same Backdrops, but now with 75% jpg quality. The difference in quality is hardly noticeable on my pal SD screen but the total size of the pack now is only 4.5MB instead of almost 24MB. The difference in speed is obvious on my XBOX.

Goofy thanks. I guess i rather do it the correct way. How would I add the media flag to my files in order for it to display? Can I do this in the MIP app?

Yes, I believe so. I personally remove those flags anyway and replace them with the file type since dvd, sddvd, bluray, etc really don't matter to me. I'd rather see avi, iso, mov, mpg, then I know if I open an ISO file it will give me a DVD menu.

This is what I have:

So it's an XBMC memory leak? Does the size of your library have any effect?

I believe it's memory creep just like ya used to get with windows 98(not really a skin fault)
Not sure about the libray having any effect but i may be wrong.
If you do want those other genre posters i could upload them when i get a chance.

The includes_Mediaflags.xml supplied was created before djh made his changes to the views makeing it incompatible with the latest auriga but now most of the supplied studio flags will no longer work i believe fernferret is going to create a fix for it. fingers crossed!
And yes i updated late last night but i have updated since then as there have been a number of changes since my last upload and i have it running far better now i may give it a day or so before uploading any more updates.

Yeah, stand by for that one neal73.... I wrapped up a mod doing just that in TV and it helped. When Auriga stabilises a bit I'll try and do the same for it.

after switching back to mediastream 1.00 and then going back to auriga lite it feels extremely slow on my appletv. :( and I know the appletv is a bit faster than the xbox... 1Ghz cpu vs 733ghz. I really wanted to run Auriga lite, but no matter how i try to optimize it, it is still not as responsive as i'd like. Is there hope to make auriga run smoothly on xbox/appletv devices?

You don't need to reset as often if at all just use the refesh button at the top of the screen this frees up a few extra mb's at least it does on mine.
Yes irfanview is a bit harsh at resizing or maybe i just don't know how to use it,
I use paint.net version 3.36 on windows xp pro this does need .net installed but it's free
and easy to use it does all i need for doing my textures shame it has no batch function though as at the moment i resize all my textures and fanart and posters one at a time but at least i lose very little quality......:)

I did not resize the buggers this time. no matter what i resized them to they always came out wrong and aint sure why still it does run a lot better than my last revision.

No in this revision i left the mediaflags.xml alone this time as i am waiting for fernferret to update his xml files to work with Auriga that's why the last one screwed up as it was written for stark. i may upload a small update pack in a few days it will only be a few .xmls and a few new graphics that have been updated the problem is keeping up with all the daily changes....Phew time for a few beers me thinks.

I resized all the thumbs except the "...shadow" ones. (They were the offending articles) and it works fine like that now.

I've just about got a version of Auriga ready to go, just a few new patches to add when I get home (can't pull from Git at work). I've got weather conditions working. Genre is working, with standard home menu pulldown. Included the other dialog and endtime mods and the like.

I'll do some testing, and if all successful I'll put a release out there.

oh and 1 small thing that would be awesome if you could add .. the sleep timer needs preset times (30 , 60 , 120 , 240) .. best place to add them would be when sleep timer is highlighted you can push left or right to pick , ala PM3 ..

Have tried that in the past with my mediastream and horizon mods and found it did make the file sizes smaller but when you pack them up into a textures.xpr it reconverts all textures to bitmaps so for the xbox there is no real advantage but may benefit the apple tv users on here. will try with the next release to see if it helps them out so thanks for the suggestion.

But the graphics are allready reduced by 50% reduceing them further by 50% will not look good at all besides if you reduce them too far it actually makes things worse as it then has to upsample everything to the desired resolution.

I've done what you suggested in the SP regarding the skin configuration.
But I can't find an option to disable fanart in listview only. And I have the eventserver disabled (a suggestion from Cranial to save memory).
Also, I'm not sure if it makes a difference in memory usage, I have disabled to RSS feed scroller.

Done all those, you can disable the fanart in tv shows from the drop down menu at the top of the screen. after a few more tweaks i now have got it running pretty dam good on my xbox

Just wanted to say thanks to Paul for all his work on this - put the latest version on my xbox and it's running perfectly (touch wood!) Played several videos so far without a hitch, and it's looking pretty damned good on my 32" LCD.

Keep on doing what you're doing, as it's pretty mighty fucking good!
