View Full Version : Anyone having random nfo files that won't read?

I am having some weird issues with my .nfo files. I'm using the recommended ikon build on Windows 7 beta (maybe Windows 7 is the problem but everything else works fine, so not sure why this would fail) with Stark, and for some reason most of my movie.nfo file information isn't picked up -- instead I get:

Directed By: Items
Written By: Items
Starring: Weather screen options unavailable in this version
IMDB: (no stars)

There is year, plot and genre information, but it does not match what is in my .nfo files (presumably downloaded from tMDB?).

The weird part is that some of my .nfo files actually do load. For example, 300 is working like a charm with these files:

\\Movie Library\300.2006.720p.bluray.x264.dolbydigital
300.2006.720p.bluray.x264.dolbydigital.mkv
movie.nfo
movie.tbn
movie-fanart.jpg
movie-trailer.mov

But this directory structure for A Few Good Men won't load any .nfo information:

\\Movie Library\A Few Good Men.1992.1080p.bluray.x264.dolbydigital
A Few Good Men.1992.1080p.bluray.x264.dolbydigital.mkv
movie.nfo
movie.tbn
movie-fanart.jpg

I have tried deleting my movie library from the video sources and re-adding it, but no luck. Anyone else having a similar issue??

Anyway, above issue aside, the new Aeon rocks!!! Thank you Djh!

I'm having the same issue.

But hey. Stark is beautiful. Keep up the good work:)

Did you use a tool to create the .nfo's or did you create them yourself?

Try to use Movie Companion works great for me and had no issues on any .nfo

cheers

I use Media Companion myself. Very handy. Miss the command line option though.

I found that after a restart, the metadata was displayed correctly, when I pressed Info and reload.

It didn't work to just trigger updatelibrary though (button on remote via Eventghost: Update video library)
I have cleanonupdate=true in advancedsettings.xml.

ok that would have been my next tip, it works for me if i update on media companion and then just reload library.

You don't have to rename the folder as well as the video file you know.

ie

\\Movie Library\300
300.2006.720p.bluray.x264.dolbydigital.mkv
movie.nfo
movie.tbn
movie-fanart.jpg
movie-trailer.mov

since the new MIP release, it would be great if stark/xbmc reads the tags out of the created .nfo so no more file renaming will be needed.

djh is working on it.

Check out this thread -

I use Media Companion to generate all my .nfo files. I tried rescraping a few movies in MC and reloading in XBMC, but still getting the same issue. Any thoughts?

Also tried renaming my folders to just the movie name (without media flags info) but also no dice. ???

Ok, I figured out what's causing this. In addition to the .nfo files for xbmc, I also have mymovies.xml files for some of my movies for when I am using vmc. They are hidden files, which is why I just noticed this. I guess that confuses Stark, because if I delete the mymovies.xml files then the .nfo files work great!!

Anyone know whether this is something that could be resolved in a future Stark or XBMC release? I tend to use VMC + Media Browser on my living room pc, but XBMC for watching movies on my bedroom pc.
