i have just moved from my beloved xbox after it died and bought a shiny new pc running vista. I have everything working but tv episodes wont scan?
I have them on a networked pc running xp. I have added the folders as networked drives and the tv show scans to the library but just no episodes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, that's a log file.
But:
How is your file structure ?
How did you name your episodes ?
Did you follow the wiki ?

That's the info needed to help.

Btw : If you post a log, do post a debug log.

the file structure was the same as i had it on the xbox - tv series in names folders and the episodes named eg scrubs - 1x01
the folders are on an xp machine and i have mapped the drives what i cant understand is that the series shows and picks up the folder and fanart but wont add any of the episodes - if i go out of the library i can see the episodes and they play as normal

I found the only way to ad TV shows that was reliable was to manually do it - exit the library view and then go into the video file manager. Find your folders, right click on each one and select 'View TV show info' and then type in the show name when requested. Sounds like the scraper isn't working too well in Auto mode so this might work.

that would be a nightmare i have a large amount of shows 200+ so to do it manually would take forever

how about a tvshow.nfo with the tvdb url in the show folder?

I'm assuming you have TV shows organised on drive by having separate folder for each series. You should only need to manually add the top level directory that contains all the episodes, so unless you have 200 different TV shows (as opposed to 200 different episodes), it shouldn't take too long.

And if you really do have 200 different TV shows, I'd imagine that time isn't something you're lacking :D

tvshow.nfo done that and that is why i think it picks up the tv show
but if i pick a single folder and search it doesnt pick up episodes

I read you have a large collection.
I would go for a external scraper.
Media Companion (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33961)
Media Info Plus (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47071)

Why (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33961&page=131)

Ok, you did scrape with MC so your files should look like this example.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VBW8X8WZ

You have to clear you library. Otherwise xbmc wil not scrape your new created info/thumb files.
Or refresh every movie/tv show by hand
Delete MyVideos34.db
located: xbmc/userdata/Database/MyVideos34.db

And clear thumbs also.
located: xbmc/userdata/Thumbnails/Video

And now set content again.

I have an additional suggestion. I feel like I've heard people mentioning this as working in the past. I assume your episodes are in the following format example:

G:\Friends\Season 1\Friends s01e01

What you might try doing is adding an additional folder between your shows and the drive. E.g.

G:\Television\Friends\Season 1\Friends s01e01

Then set the content on the television folder, rather than the G: drive folder.

ok this looks liked it worked - a great big thank you - just scaning the 2500 episodes so taking a while with mc

when i add episodes i take it i just re run mc and then it will update xbmc ?
and when i delete an episode will mc then remove it when it rescans

No, MC does create the info/thumb files in your movie folder.
XBMC wil scrape those files into your userdata. (insteed of surching on internet)

So, fi you add a episode scrape with MC and "update library" in xbmc (see context menu) and the new episode wil be added to your library.

Also deleting, you have to do it in xbmc, because
you need to delete it out of the userdata.

Waffa, I was having the exact same problem you are. My tv shows were being seen on my xbox but not on my windows version of xbmc. Then I noticed that 2 or 3 episodes, the ones in a s01e02 naming convention were showing up where as the ones i had names 4x01 or just 502 were not. Now I'm sure there is a file that can be edited to make it see the other naming conventions but I just changed all my files to follow the s01e01 format and then windows was happy to see them.

Xbmc should be able to reconize syntax 4x01. Directory Structure and File Names (http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=TV_Shows_%28Video_Library%29#Directory_Stru cture_and_File_Names)
But heard more problems about not scraping this syntax.
If it doesn't you have 2 options.
1. Rename to S04E04
2. Make an "Advancedsettings.xml (http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Advancedsettings.xml#.3Ctvshowmatching.3E)" and set your syntax.
