i'm trying to move out from my 3 old xbox's and build htpc - to play the hd movies that the xbox cant deal :)
the only problem i got is the dts\ac3 audio.
i got an asus spdif out that connects to the motherboard. strange thing even when i check the spdif out i cant hear the whole sound (like center for vocal) when i check the 5.1 option.
the strange thing is that in 2 speakers\stereo mode i can hear the whole sound and when i play ac3 content on media player the receiver turns to dolby - which is great!
- but the xbmc dosn't work that way, if i check on the xbmc that i have digital out- i can't hear a thing, and if i check that i have stereo - it doesn't turns to dolby when playing ac3 content like the windows media player. please help me! it's the only problem i need to solve before moving to the pc. :\
thanks for the helpers :)

I spent a whole day yesterday trying to get this to work with my asus motherboard. In the end this worked for me:
Install version for main page of xbmc.org
Install latest svn version from sticky
choose to have user data in program files folder and not in the user one. (edit shortcut to xmbc and remote the /p if you do this)

I know it sounds random, but thats what ended up working for me.
Good luck!

i didn't understand the last thing i needed to do ("and not in the user one"). i tried to install ikon svn, and still all the same, when i'm on digital audio it sounds nothing (and i get a message to check the audio when i play, and when i check to analog it doesn't switches to dolby on ac3 content (which on media player it does when i check that i'm on stereo speakers on the sound card)

I have 2 asus mainboards with the same type of digital out and I need to switch on "dolby digital" in the driver control panel (realtek) to get the digital out. If that's not on, it doesn't work with xbmc.

hope it helps..
