Hi If anyone can tell me how to use the calibration patterns in XBMC to setup my display that'll be great. Or if you can point me to a software that can calibrate my screen better. That would be great too. Thanks.

If you have a dvd that has THX sound, then it has a free built in screen and audio configuration tool. Just click in the THX logo in the sound options menu of whatever dvd you have it on.

This is great for optimizing and getting the best picture and sound from your set.

Here's the main page for it: http://www.thx.com/home/dvd/optimizer/index.html

Yeah thats the one I used. The site I posted should have a list of dvd's with the optimizer on them.

If you have Vista or Win7. I found the Media Center calibration screens was quite easy to use for casual user.
The calibration video with the guy with white shirt was very handy for white level calibration. And the moving gray 'X' for black level.

On the subject. Maybe there is a need for little guide texts for those screens in XBMC.

The label "calibration" is a bit misleading. These are not what is considered calibration, just sizing.

Calibration via patterns typically refers to the display device itself... color, contrast, etc.
