Well, as the subject suggests, I am looking for an IR receiver that is compatible with the Origenae RC197 windows media center remote control. I have been looking for a suitable remote control for my XBMC setup for some time and have finally settled on the RC197 as its reviews are good, I like the design, and its actually OEM from Philips. Anyways, I need an external USB IR receiver for it to interface with so I decided to see what you guys would suggest. I don’t need anything special, just a receiver. If it is compatible with the newest version of Windows MCE it would be good too but if not, o well.
Thanks,

P.S. also, how difficult will it be to get the controller working with XBMC? I have heard nightmares about LIRC, configuration files, and key mapping; so I am a little apprehensive about diving into the IR scene.
I'm using the philips branded version of that remote, together with the philips OVU4110 receiver: http://www.remotecontrol.philips.com/index.cfm?act=dspProduct&productUUID=E26615BB-C8D0-306E-2C19C86B335652AB&segmentUUID=2599F159-B824-8AE6-14B94D15FC6DDA22&id=1223
You can also buy them as a kit: http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/gb/consumer/cc/_productid_SRM5100_10_GB_CONSUMER/Multimedia-Remote-Control+SRM5100-10
It's working out-of-the-box with LIRC & XBMC.

That would be perfect but I live in the US and I think the website you gave me is for UK/European distribution only. I have no qualms about buying the Philips branded version of this remote, it’s just a matter of getting my hands on it here in the US. And from the looks of it Philips does not have US distribution of this product.

So no configuration is necessary even for XBMCLive ?

I've never used Live, but if you get the current XBMC Live 9.04, which is based on Ubuntu Jaunty, you should be pretty safe.

Ronnie...hope you can help me....Ive got the same remote as you and im trying to get it to work with XBMC, but XBMC doesnt even seem to see any remote button presses.....am I doing something wrong....
I know the PC is receeving the remote commands as irTrans (software for remote receipt) on the PC has a diagnostic section which shows the list of commands receieved and this changes each time a button is pressed.....
I am just thinking that there should be some sort of conduit between windows, the remote and XBMC...am I missing something....
Help me please

I use Event Ghost, but you can also try Girder.
