View Full Version : How can I remotely view the XBMC screen of my HTPC? (VNC?)

I know that XBMC has a built-in webserver for controlling playback but does anything exist for allowing me to view the current screen on my HTPC?

I'm guessing that VNC would work, but since I have an Ubuntu minimal installation I don't have a window manager or anything like that. I just want something easy to use (like Windows Remote Desktop, etc) and configure.

I realize this might be more related to Ubuntu/Linux than XBMC but I'm hoping that it's related enough that somebody might be able to help me out. :)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

x11vnc works for me. Bear in mind though that even on a fast network the update is slow. It is however usable for going through the menus with a bit of lag. Clearly watching the movies would be at a frame every few seconds.

I will agree, I use x11vnc every day and haven't had a problem. Sometimes it's a little weird because of the motion of the menus, but it works.
