View Full Version : Adding another menu option and pointing it to seperate library for the same user?

I was wondering if its possible to load up different libraries through shorcut commands?

What I specifically want to do is separate my foreign movies, animes and tv shows with the north american movies, cartoons and tv shows. I'm not quite sure on the flexibility of profile and if it allows for different libraries but I was hoping that if it does, if there is a shortcut i can make that loads a specific profile rather than switching in the settings.

Welcome to the forums.

Please search prior to posting in the future, this same topic has been brought up a few times recently. Try profiles. See wiki/manual (link in my signature).

Sorry bout that. I figured out the multiple library, but still didn't find anything about making XBMC shortcuts linked to a profile. I would rather doing it through shortcuts than login screen if possible.

See r16863, the LoadProfile built in command.

Just a quick question, I've got my main movies library setup fine, now I want to add Stand up Comedy, Live Music Videos, Cartoons, Extreme Sports DVDs ect.

How do I do this in XBMC? In meedio I just created a new library but I don't see any way to do that with XBMC. Am I missing something?

Or maybe there a way to filter the views so I can categorize my movies by type?

Would browsing by genre not accomplish the same thing ?

I think, like me, he wants more control as to which folders from his NAS/Storage PC will display from the main menu.
For example i'd like my 'Dr Who', 'Documentaries' and 'TV Shows' to display from the TV menu from the MediaStream skin, 'Horror' and 'Movies' to show from the Movies option and everything else from my NAS to show from Videos.

Yeh I'd like a separate library for Sports dvds or stand up comedy as I don't want to browse them with my main movies. I would like to have a menu item of sports dvds on the main menu ideally.

In meedio you can create a new library, import and menu item. Maybe I'm just thinking about this the wrong way though. How do people browse non "blockbuster movies" in XBMC?

You browse them via the filesystem.

We're planning on revising how the library view (so you can view stuff by file layout with info, and rearrange how the heirachy works) at some point, but there's a lot of groundwork that needs doing before this is doable, and it's going to take quite a bit of time.

Cheers,
Jonathan

I am a Meedio user who is moving over to XBMC.. I'm trying to get all the features I had in Meedio working in XBMC..

One main thing that is missing for me right now is the ability to easily add another "section" to my skin choices (IE: Like "TV Shows, Movies, Weather, etc) and have that section point to only specific movies..

For example.. In Meedio I had a choice on my main menu for my movies "Movies" and my daughter's movies "Mya's Movies".. When I chose "Mya's Movies" it would only display her movie library.. When I chose mine, it would only show my movie library..

Is there anyway this is possible in XBMC? For one, I have no idea how to add another menu option in my skin (MediaStream). I'm guessing I would edit home.xml but have zero idea what to add.. In Meedio this was stupid simple and only took a few clicks..

Two, even if I add another menu option how would I only display her movies? From how I see it there is just a movie library and a tv library.. Is there anyway to have multiple movie library's and point them to separate places?

Hope that all makes sense.

Thanks

XBMC supports Profiles. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it would keep the library's separate, however, I think that a restart of XBMC is required to load the other profile. It's similar but not exactly what you're looking for.

I'm fairly certain that the loading of a different profile is something easily "macroable" through EventGhost. To the point of "press a button->switch profile+go straight to the chosen videolibrary". Admitting that multiple libraries can work on a per profile basis (something I don't know).

How seamless will this be? The lacking support of having multiple libraries is really a downer when coming from a front end that did support it (ie: Meedio)..

I would like to have numerous libraries (one for my movies, one for my daughter's movies, one for ufc events, etc) but XBMC just supports one movie library and one tv library..

Are there any plans to implement a multiple library system?

Thanks

I Did use Meedio before and switched to XBMC and it is great, Only thing is what you just mentioned. There are two ways to solve it, 1 make a profile for your daughter and a profile for yourself you can switch within XBMC and use different folders/library's. 2: There was A person who edited some xml files, and he explanes how he did that, search function will help, don't know wich thread is was, if i'll find it I'll post a link to it. I know that in Meedio it was very easy and I miss that too, Don't want to edit XML and don't want to change profiles , I had library's for Music DVD, Top Movies, Documentary and so on. Maybe it is not so difficult to add this option if you have some skills. I don't have them :sad:

XBMC has a multiple library system implemented.
Even if it's not an exact copy of how Meedio does it, it's there.
Since this profile switching is pretty recent, why don't you try it out and tell us what you think?
I personally have no use for it atm, so I will not do the legwork for you.
But looking at it with the XBMC knowledge I have, I would program a button or two on my universal remote to to switch profiles and leave the login menu turned off unless you want to see it every time you boot XBMC.

Greetings.
I've been messing around with XBMC and I'm loving it so far. Though, I have a slight problem. I've checked the wiki but I couldn't find an answer for it.

I have a few instructional DVD's I've picked up over the years. I've been trying to build a seperate library for them with nfo files in the same folder with the actual video files. But I didn't quite succeed. They ended up under movies library.

Is it possible to have a seperate library for them under videos section?

Also, this I believe is kind of a "noob" question but does XBMC support custom tag under XML files... like <subjects> instead <genre> ? If I remember right, XML is all about having the tags you want.. though I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance.

edit: I hope, this was the right section to post. If not, I'm sorry! :o

XBMC creates just ONE library for my entire collection of movies....This creates a problem because my collection contains two different movie folders - one for english and one for french.

Is it possible to create two different libraries one for each language and search each library seperately?

Any ideas?

You can hack up multi library support, details here:

aeon

It's only applicable for the Horizonz skin I think.
I use PM3.HD and I'm also struggling with the fact of multiple libraries.

I hope it will be possible to inject location information into the movie information which library mode uses to filter its views (e.g. year, genre, ... => Folder (i.e. location/share)). This would be perfect and no use to switch profiles.

Aeon then uses a different name for the home screen xml file.
I am no skinner, but a very quick look in the Aeon folder suggests Home.xml (which btw should be the same for PM3.HD)
Edit: a qick 'n dirty test search suggests DialogButtonMenu.xml, no guarantees though.
There is a plethora of Aeon mods kicking around to get ideas from.
There is a lot of examples on this forum and in the online manual on how to modify PMIII (and PM3.HD).

Thanks for explaining, I understand it would be a lot of groundwork but its definitely worth it. Letting people customise the menus and create multiple libraries was always meedio's strength. Having moved to XBMC full time now it really is the only thing holding it back, but it is a limitation of this software.

Is there a solution for separating albums and singles? In the same way I would like seperate menu items for music albums, music singles and maybe compilation cds.

I stick with it that it could be possible by using the library mode's own filtering (source: http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Import_-_Export_Library#Movies)

Genres uses <genre></genre>
Title => <title></title>
Studio => <studio></studio>

Why shouldn't it be possible to use the path tag ?
Path => <path>smb://NAS/ShareLevel1/ShareLevel2/</path>
If not possible to determine the share level, the first level should do the trick.

This way you don't need different libraries, but you can do the splitting on folder level.

well i dodnt get this to work how i want to.

i use the newest xbmc release with horizons v4. i will try to explain... my english isnt very good...

i got 6 HDDs

HDD 1-4 -> HDTV
HDD 5 -> series
HDD 6 -> dvd rips / adult / music etc etc etc

i have enabled the libary in xbmc and added all folders etc etc. works fine so far.

but i want this:

in the home menu of xbmc there are "movies" "videos" "tv-series" "adult" etc

i want in the "movies" only my HDTV stuff. in the "videos" only my rips. in "tv-series" only the series and in the "adult" only the adult stuff.
with the series it works. i press on "tv-series" and i get to the libary with my series.

but when i go to "movies" there is all my hdtv stuff and all the rips etc together.

isnt it possible to handle 4 different libaries or something like that? with some other mod or something like that maybe? right now i can only handle this when i disable libary for adult / rips and use the "files" view in there....

hope anyone understands me O_o

the only thing i can think of, being kind of a noob myself, is creating a seperate profile for XBMC... i think this would allow you to create a new library, but i've never tried it, so im not sure... hope this helped :grin:
