Hi everbody,

this is my first post and I would like to congratulate you to this great forum. It help me a lot so far and this is the also one reason why I register now. :)

But I have also a problem, where I need your help.

I changed form a Popcorn Hour A-110 to a HTPC, because I want to use the features of XBMC, which I used before on my XBOX.

My system:

Antec Fusion Remote black
ASUS P5N7A-VM, GeForce 9300 (dual PC2-6400U DDR2)
4GB Ram
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200, 2x 2.50GHz
Win XP Prof. SP3 with Nvidia 182.06 WHQL
XBMC - Rev18115 - jester
No codecs installed.
Panasonic TH42-PX80E (with HDMI on HTPC)

Using XBMC now, I have the problem that all movie files (mkv, xvid) judder.
I tried so many options, but it doesnīt work fine. Even with VLC I have this problem with the files. I used Windows 7 Beta before and had not this problems. Also I never had this problems on my Popcorn Hour. So the problem is not the TV. So I donīt really know what is the problem with XP.

I think about, to install the ffdshow with MPClassic and the Haali Splitter to use it as external Player in XBMC.

Is there someone, who has the same problem ? .... Are there some other possibilities to solve my problem ? Could it only be some problem with the features of the Nvidia 182.06 ?

Thank you very much for your help. :)

What refresh rate is your TV capable of? What refresh rate are you using on your PC? What frame rate is your media?

Hi ashlar,

my TV has a capable refresh rate of 1024x768 @ 100Hz.
On Windows XP I have 1024x768 @ 60hz over HDMI.

On my movies I have different frame rates like 23.967 or 25.000.

On the PopCorn Hour, what refresh rate were you using?

Some judder playing back 23.976 stuff at 60Hz is inevitable (even worse 25fps stuff played back at 60Hz).

Does your TV allow for 50Hz or 24Hz? Actually, if you write the exact model it might be easier to understand the best course of action.

Just to check, you sure you're not confusing "judder" and "stutter"? One is entirely normal and you can't do anything about, except match your refresh rate to the movie. (which will only even out the judder per-frame, not eliminate it)

The other is a processing issue, and you can troubleshoot it.

On my Popcorn Hour I used an Auto refresh rate.

My TV Model is Panasonic TH42 PX80E.

@blorgfreth

I hope I mean the right thing, because Iīm german. ;)

The movies are not stuttering, like e.g. I havenīt enough Power with my HTPC.
Sometimes I Have some waves in my movies from the top to the bottom.
Also some small hang ups in the xvid movies.

Sounds like you have vsync issues not judder. Try enabling synctovblank in the nvidia control panel thing and then the vsync option in xbmc to "let driver choose".

Hi althekiller,

I tried your idea, but with no effekt.

To me It looks like the 24p problem, which I had before watching HDDVD over the XBOX360, but Iīm not sure.

Hi again. ;)

With all the Problems on WIN XP, Iīm thinking of getting back Windows 7 Beta on my HTPC.

Is it possible to save my XBMC Video library and import it on Windows 7 ?
(Because it was a lot of work, to sort the "View Movies" Section.)

I tried already to export my Database, but nothing happened. The folder to export was empty.

Thanks for your answers.

On Windows XP I have 1024x768 @ 60hz over HDMI.
I think it's worth to try setting your Win resolution to either 1280x720 @ 60hz or 1920x1080 @ 30hz
and make sure xbmc screen setting has same value

Hi everbody,

I solve my problem. I put back Windows 7 with activation on my HTPC and everything is fine. :) .... I can see and change all Hz resolution over HDMI, what was not possible on XP before.

Automatic resolution and automatic frame rate scale in XBMC and all movies work fine. :) No hang ups, no studdering.

The brand new Windows 7 is in my opinion the best choice for a brand new HTPC.

Thank you for your help. :)
