just wondering if it's possible to use wake-on-lan with the xbox? is it possible to send a magic packet to xbox to wake it up?

nope not possible. there is way to do wol with the xbox.
it's not what you asked for, but you can turn it on via remote controller anyhow.

check out this site (http://cheaplpc.com/xir/default.asp). besides a mod chip this is my most important mod. nothing beats turning it off and on via the standard ms remote.

Yeah, visit an IRC channel via a Java IRC client in Firefox. Make sure your wife is in there as well and tell her to push the small button on the front of your Xbox (don't want her opening the drive like mine does). Wait 10 seconds and you're set.
Otherwise, no, unless you use some sort of home automation device to turn it on. ;)
I have been using the XIR Easy kit for my boxes and it works great. Obviously that is for IR control, not really directly network. Xbox does not do Wake-On-LAN or anything like that.

I have constructed my own Relay-pushed based remote-on system on. There is a 5v relay attached to the powerbutton. I give the relay 5v from connector behind the system. The 5v comes from a battery that has RS232 Relay system switch. RS232 is controlled by my Server that has VNC to the net. I made the soft that controls the RS232 Relay. Not Simple and works.
I have have XIR remote also on/off.

I installed X3IR chips into both of my xboxes and can now turn them on with the xbox dvd remote.
