Oldnemesis had asked "Well, I do not use Windows, so I cannot test it. Anyone else has the same problem? " before the CD+G thread was closed yesterday for some reason.

I also cannot play kar files with SVN18098 on the windows build.

Debug log:
http://pastebin.com/m9eccb64

Hope this helps somewhat.

Also is there a way to still use visualizations while playing karaoke files anymore? The black background that everyone wanted works perfectly, but at times I didnt mind the "crazy" vis looks :) I believe the +G part takes over the whole screen if I am not mistaken. If this is the case then we probably cannot get visualizations for the background anymore?

I am glad to hear that I am not alone with this problem.

There is a lot of ERROR's in your log which makes me suggest you to check your xbmc installation.
Also I suggest using PM3 skin for SVN releases, as other skins may not be updated yet.
Please recheck and try with PM3 skin, and provide an update.

Same result with PM3.HD skin. The file just doesnt open. I am assuming you are referring to this problem and not the vis option I was speaking of.

I am probably going to ask a stupid question :blush:, but maybe there is a problem with dll loader.
Why is it loading KERNEL32.dll and not timidity.dll?
I just noticed that when playing other codecs (wav, mp3) it always loads appropriate dll for that codec.

Yes, it works very smooth and perfect for me.
Try to do a new clean XBMC install.

As for a second part of your question about using visualisation for background,
there is a setting in advancedsetting.xml for karaoke <defaultbackground>,
set it to <defaultbackground type="vis"/> (this currently only affects kar and mid files)

Ok I will try a fresh install soon (am at work right now). Will also try that advancedsettings insert. Thanks for the info.

Ok so I do get the text but no sound. I have completed this from the manual:

MIDI playback

There are two ways to configure embedded Timidity synthesizer and enable MIDI playback - a simple way, and a more advanced way.

Simple way, you need a single soundfont file. Those are typically large (50Mb+) files with .sf2 extension, the most popular resource is http://www.sf2midi.com I recommend using widespread and well-tested SGM-180 soundfont, google for it or get 2.01 version from http://www.geocities.jp/shansoundfont/ (this one is included into Arch linux in the soundfont-sgm180 package). Download the file, rename it to soundfont.sf2 and put it into your XBMC Media Center system directory (not your home directory) into system/players/paplayer/timidity subdirectory (you must create it first).

The .kar files do play fine in winamp. So the volume isnt down or anything.

Here is the log:

Looks like your soundfont file is bad.
If you downloaded it from the above url you need to decompress it first using sfArk from here (http://www.melodymachine.com/sfark.htm) and only then rename it to soundfont.sf2

Yup that did it. As obvious as it seems now I didnt realize that the Ark was a compressed archive. Thanks for the help.

I'm having the same issue...

i try that link and it's broken, so i searched the program and can only find a program that says it will compress it, not decompress? and if i try to compress it, it fails...little help? :)

Google for the file like it says. http://www.geocities.jp/shansoundfont/
Then get sfArk. http://www.melodymachine.com/files/sfark_setup.exe
Then decompress the file and rename it to soundfont.sf2.

Yes, do I downloaded the file like it says and I get a ZIP that contains the following;

File: SGM- V2_01.zip
Unzip using WinRAR

Contents:
Cakewalk INS File -> Folder
EAX Presets -> Folder
TOOLS -> Folder
readme.txt
SGM-V2.01.sfArk
version.txt

Now when I try that melodymachine website, everytime I click it , i get a page that says :

Connection Interrupted
The document contains no data.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

So, I downloaded : http://www.brothersoft.com/sfark-soundfont-compression-10466.html

I open the program, select the SGM-V2.01.sfArk file and click start and get the following error when I do that:

Unrecognised compression method! - You may need a newer version of sfArk

---------------------------------------------------

Beginning to end that is my journy, If i'm messing up along the way please help!

Try this link for the program.
http://rapidshare.com/files/208077736/sfark_setup.exe.html

After looking at your brothersoft link. It should be the same program. It doesnt look like you are screwing up any steps. Im not sure why it isnt decompressing.
