View Full Version : Can BIOS logo image on GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H be changed?

I'd really like to use one of the BIOS boot images from here (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44416) but it seems that you can only do this on AMI / ASUS boards.

Is it possible to display a full-screen XBMC logo when the BIOS is starting up on the GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H?

Surely it came with a manual?

If not, google is usually a great manual :)

Heh, thanks guys but I've already read the manual and searched everywhere.

There's a tool called cbrom that lets you change out images for Award BIOSes but I'm hoping somebody else might have used it (or have other information) before I test it out myself and be the guinea pig. :)

You should read my instructions in the thread that you yourself linked to...

http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44416 (post #9).

I have successfully done this with two Zotac boards using CBROM606, one is a miniITX and one a microATX.

Here's my YouTube Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hpm3MOl25HU) (I also modified the Windows Startup logo ntoskrnl.exe)

CBROM seems to work for Award and recent Phoenix BIOSes.

I linked to a CBROM tutorial, CBROM itself, and the program to convert it to AWBM format.

Thanks for the reply.

I did read that thread and it says that it "should" work so I'm wondering if anybody else has tried it on this specific motherboard before I do.

Also, it says the motherboard needs to support "full-screen logo". I can't find any option for that in the online manual so that's another reason I'm asking here in case I'm just missing it or if there is a special way of enabling it, etc.

Thanks agan for the help

You should be able to look in your BIOS and see if there is an option to "enable boot logo" or "enable fullscreen logo" or something like that. All recent BIOSes should support it though.

Remember that you are editing the BIOS BIN file that you downloaded first, then you flash it to your BIOS.

So you basically know if it works before you flash it.

It's not like you're directly editing the BIOS on your motherboard.

Thanks again for the reply.

I understand what you're saying...

I didn't see any options like that in the manual but once I receive the actual board I'll check the BIOS options myself and see if I can find anything.

Thanks!

Let us know how you make out.

Also, this GigaByte Board should have a BIOS recovery feature (DualBIOS):

DualBIOS™ - Patented Dual Hardware BIOS Protection
DualBIOS™ is a GIGABYTE patented technology that automatically recovers BIOS data when main BIOS has crashed or failed. Featuring 2 physical BIOS ROMs integrated onboard, GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ allows quick and seamless recovery from BIOS damage or failure due to viruses or improper BIOS updating.

Install Windows! There's a tool on the driver cd exactly for this task. That's how I did it a couple of days ago.

Well, I received this board the other day and I can't seem to find any options for full screen logo so it looks like it's not possible.

Just thought I'd let you know in case anybody else was interested.

@rickx,

with this Giga-Byte board sofaking is talking about? (GA-E7AUM-DS2H)

Or did you use MyLogo2 with an Asus board?

There is a program for GIGABYTE boards to change the BIOS Splash - it's called Face-Wizard.
You can get it here: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/NewTech/old_motherboard_newtech/tech_facewizard.htm. It is a Windows-only program, so you'll have to install Windows to edit your BIOS splash. I've actually used it on the same board you're wanting to, along with the attached splash I made from the current Splash.png. As with the others, it's made to fit 16x9 screens only.

Hope this helps

That's great! Thanks!

However, I don't see any splash image with my board. (eg. there is no default splash image?)

Does this add one or something?

I'm not positive, but I believe there was an option to enable the BIOS splash. I'd check right now, but my roommates are watching movies. Fish around in your BIOS settings and you should be able to find it. Sorry that I can't remember where the setting is.

I've searched over and over and can't seem to find it (and I've also read the manual a couple of times). :(

If you get a chance could you check for the actual setting? I would greatly appreciate it.

Just looked up the setting - here ya go:

Advanced BIOS Features
-> Full Screen LOGO Show (set to Enabled)

Is it possible that sofaking needs to use the Face-Wizard program first in order to enable the Advanced -> Full Screen Logo Show feature?

I read his manual too, and there is no setting for this by default on that board.

I hadn't thought of that - it's a complete possibility. I honestly don't remember if the option was there on my board before I made my BIOS Splash. It looks like you're right, though.

gabestover, can you make me a BIOS upgrade with the image displayed above?

I can't install Face Wizard on my second computer because it errors saying that it's not a Gigabyte motherboard.

Here is my regular BIOS file just to make sure we're talking about the same board: http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14209

Worked perfectly, thanks!

I double-checked and that BIOS option (Show Full Screen Logo) was definitely not there until I flashed the BIOS you gave me.

Thanks again!!

sofakng, pm'd you with a link.

Any chance I could get a copy of that patched file too?

I also can't get the thing to install. You've got the BIOS version F3A (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14428) in there right?

sofakng

It looks like the BIOS that gabestover gave me was F2. However, I've sent you a PM with the link just in case you're interested in that one.

I'm gonna have a go at modifying the F3a one using CBROM first to see how that works. I've got the dual BIOS thing as previosly mentioned.

My board doesn't arrive for a week, though, so in the mean time all I've got is the patched image if anyone else wants to test?

sofakng

I'm always a little worried when it comes to flashing the BIOS (even with the dual bios that we have) so I think I'll pass since mine is working fine. :\

I can understand that. I'll report back when the board arrives and I've tested this.

Hey guys, sorry I hadn't responded until now. sofakng was right about the bios version I sent. I'm on spring break presently and away from home, so I'm not able to edit the bios using gigabyte's app. If anyone still needs an edited BIOS when I get back, I'll be happy to make one up.

I've tried flashing a few different versions of the BIOS to my motherboard now, and none of them give the option of "Full Screen Logo" (or anything similar) in the "Advanced BIOS Features" section.

Really don't know what I could be doing wrong!

sofakng
2009-04-10, 20:52
You need to insert the logo into the BIOS file before you flash it. (otherwise the option won't show up at all)

pete-woods
2009-04-12, 13:33
Silly me was doing something very stupid. I'd got the version of the BIOS you linked to me in a zip xxxx_F2.zip and unzipped in into a folder xxxx_F2. Then I went and grabbed a BIOS from the folder xxxx_F3A and copied that onto the USB stick for flashing. It seems I made this mistake twice before I realised the BIOS version I was using was too new.

Oh, also, the CBROM program doesn't work with this particular BIOS. It doesn't enable the fullscreen logo option.
