I have a large music library (9,000 albums) and Library Update is taking too long - is there any way to speed it up ?

It's been running for about 3 weeks now (24x7) and is only about 50% done.
There seems to be a built in pause between each album - using Allmusic scraper.
Most albums have coverart stored in album folder (Artist - Album.jpg)

Thanks !

wow, 3 weeks, really? You are a patient man. Make sure all of your music had correctly tagged ID3 tags before scanning into the library. MediaMonkey is a good free program for this. Also, XBMC look for folder.jpg in the album folder for album cover art.

On a side note, Movie Info Plus if realeasing a new version in a couple of weeks that will help with finding album and artist fanart I believe.

turn off the allmusic scraper & internet look ups in general and it will probably finish in less than 1 day...

also make sure you're using a recent build, one of these: http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35452

-> Make sure all of your music had correctly tagged ID3 tags before scanning -> into the library. MediaMonkey is a good free program for this.

My tags are all in pretty good shape - not perfect but quite good. I have been using Jriver Mediacenter for a player and Tag & Rename for tag updates.
Just starting to use MediaMonkey because I want to do a complete restructure of directories to Artist / Album from Artist - Album.

-> Also, XBMC look for folder.jpg in the album folder for album cover art.

Will XBMC not look for coverart in the format Artist - Album.jpg ?
Does XBMC also look for coverart in the MP3 tags ?
I store coverart both in folder (Artist - Album.jpg) and in tags.

Thanks !

From the manual:
If you store each of your music-albums or artists in a separate subfolder to keep things organized, you can also make the folder have a custom thumbnail image. To do this you need to rename your .jpg thumbnail as folder.jpg and place it in the folder (the size of the picture can be anything from 64x64 to 256x256 in pixel size).

Embedded Album Art
XBMC supports embedded album art in music files.

-although I'm pretty sure it can be bigger than that, it will just get resized in the cache, anyone confirm?

turning off internet lookups with be the best improvement. they take forever (especially allmusic)...

xbmc will not find artist-album.jpg, but it will find embedded album art just fine.

I tagged my mp3's with zortam media pro and embedded the cover art with j.river media center.

Added music folder as source and then scanned, it took 14 minutes to do my 1,000 albums.

Don't care about album info or artist images so I don't scrape for them.
