Okay, I dug thought the forums, soo many posted dedicated to this and it's such a simple problem I'm having I'm hoping someone else is in the same boat and found a simple fix.

Windows7 build 7000 Ultimate Edition
Jetsers xbmc build (XBMCSetup-Rev17640-jester-ffmpeg-mt.exe)
Also tried with the official build. (XBMC_for_Windows-8.10.exe
Skin is MediaStream v1.00 Released (4/12/2008). Also has the same problem with the default skin.

Problem:
I have a mce remote and windows7
All I want is to be able to go back after going into the video menu.
I don't care about any keys other up,down, left, right,ok and skip forward/back pause, play and stop.

Proposed Solution:
Take any key, such as recorded tv/guide/livetv or any other key on the MCE remote apart from the ones listed above in italics to be an esc key

I went thought pretty much everything I could find.

Started off trying to use 3rd party programs to remap the keys, it seems they don't play well with windows7 (UAC off, no anti virus, running as administrator via shortcut and on the admin user, any compatability mode fails to launch these applications).

I tried the editing keyboard.xml by the idea suggested by someone on the forums by replacing every instance of the back key to esc. This didnt work

Finally, I saw a comment about removing the extra 3 registry keys for the device and this just disabled it completely (system restore took me back cos cbf backing up my registry).

Can anyone tell me how to get my back key working with my mce remote, win7 and xbmc easily or at all? (FYI: the back navi key works a charm, once into the videos or a menu, i can go back directories fine and use this, I just cant get back to the main menu at all. Even a simple remap for the home menu would be appreciated.)

The issue is that without third party apps MCE Remote is a normal HID device and only send the up, down, right, left and ok. these are recognised as keyboard presses and is why they are working with XBMC.

So without third party apps you cant remap livetv as its not sent to XBMC.

Cheers,
Tobias.
