i dontīt really know how to configure the relax server within xbmc.
fomer in xbmp i configured it this way:
<share>
<name>network (xns)</name>
<url>$root$mp3@192.168.0.2:1400</url>
<cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>
i configured it within xbmc:
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>$root$mp3@192.168.0.2:1400</path>
</bookmark>
also this way:
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://$root$mp3@192.168.0.2:1400/</path>
</bookmark>
why doesnīt this work?
not sure about why the change is necessary, but with a little trial and lots of error, i got it to work. it should be as follows.
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.2:1400/$root$mp3</path>
</bookmark>

sorry, but this does not work for me!
i can acces the main folder but when i click on it i donīt see any files but see the hardware structure of my xbox drives and partions!
thanks was going to ask this question myself but this saved the the trouble. i have tested this and it works great.
i changed my settings to this:
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.1:1400/$root$music</path>
</bookmark>
and now i can see all the folders i have selected in xns. but when i click a folder it just jumps to the root of my xbox and not the files under that folder on my computer. only when i add a file directly under xns and not a folder it works. why ?
i am not quite sure if this is what you are getting at but i have my xns setup in my xml as:
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://192.168.1.102:1400/documents and settings/all users/documents/my music</path>
</bookmark>
and it works well for me. i can go into the sub folders successfully and pick out my mp3s.
hmm, a little bit more info might be helpful...
the directory that i have shared using relax is:
c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\my music
do you see your folder or the files when you access xns under xbox ?

<path>xns://192.168.1.101:1400</path>
</bookmark>
i have used the above and it seems to work ok, have played a film off it. *but this means that you have all your shares listed and not just the one you want.
might be a work around for others that get it configured.

do you see your folder or the files when you access xns under xbox ?
about half of the time i see what is contained in the directory (in this case more folders which contain my mp3s). the other half i see (what appears to be random - i haven't narrowed it down yet) other folders that are in my xns shares. i do have a hard time because of the delay setting (which i still need to modify) on the select button.

having thought about this, would it not be better to set xbmc to use a logical layout for paths.
eg - <path>xns://192.168.0.101/relax_share/relax_subshare</path>
therefore you could have it listing all relax shares by just using ip, or specify which one you want.
port number could be after ip or whole share.
perhaps should post in feature request?

this is what i found to work for relax
<name>music (xns)</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.101:1400/d:/media/music</path>
</bookmark>
<bookmark>
<name>temp (xns)</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.101:1400/$root$temp</path> * * *

for some reason this only affects the my music relax share, as all my others work fine.
first post btw!
i can't get relax to work properly. i've tried these:
xns://192.168.0.1/$root$music
xns://192.168.0.1/d:\music
and it shows all my folders and files under that directory but i can only run the files. if i try and access a folder it puts me back to the beginning where i choose between which network to use(relax, xbms, smb). need som help.
files directly works. folders not.

frodo,
i believe that we have to change the stream protocol xbmc use, the current xns of xbmp it's just horrible :angry:
we need to consider scenarios like:
- custom commands
- xml strongly typed
- just one socket for every mac address
and most important... a spec protocol. there are guys out there that wants develop pc applications, but without info it's very hard to do :)
i having problems with the latest build of xbmc,
previous versions of xbmc worked ok with relax, using the following config:
<bookmark>
<name>relax</name>
<path>xns://192.168.1.2:1400/$root$videos</path>
</bookmark>
this would take me to my relax share where i could select either the folder containing my movies or the cd drives of that computer.
on the new version of xbmc it would connect to relax and display the movies and cd options ok, but when i clicked on either of them i was placed back to the main video section of xbmc, listing the drives and shares.
relax debug log showed the initial connection, but nothing else.
initially i thourght relax was playing up, so i switched to xbmp and this was still working ok.
i have a work around which is to specify the share like this:
<path>xns://192.168.1.2:1400/e:/my movies/</path>
i can access movies like this, however intermittantly i still get thrown back to the main video section in xbmc, when clicking on some of the folders in the share.
please note this is only with the latest version of xbmc 10th oct. other versions worked ok.
just to add i kept a back up copy of the previous version of xbmc, and went to use this, and this now has the same problem.
i can't understand why as this i was working fine before?
i've had no trouble accessing my shares, but there is something else that's pretty weird... in the my videos screen, if i go to a share, and then a folder on that shares, i don't see any files in that folder. this only manifests itself in the my videos section, the my music section works as expected. it is the same for both xns and xbmsp.
im having heaps of trouble getting xbmc to stream my media...ive tried a # of things but cant seem to get it to work
the .xml i have is difficult to understand!!
could someone email me a copy of thier .xml which has been succesful streaming media with relax

i am having the same problems with relax and xbmc.... i am using the same settings and address as in my xbmp.... xbmc will go into the server cuz i see relax picks it up but when i am in and stry to access my folder it sends me back to the videos menu.....i am not using the ip address that comes already in place in the xml file... would i have to change my computers ip to get it to go in the files.....any help would be awesome.... thanx
it doesnt seem to be just me, but relax and xbmc are not working too well together at all.
and when i do find a syntax that seems to work for streaming like in xbmp it only works for a bit then stops. there doesnt seem to be any pattern in why it does and doesnt work.
im hope that this will be rectified in a non-alpha build of xbmc.
other then that it seems to be progressing nicely.

have exact same problem - i use linux version of ccxstream. it works fine under xbmp, but under xmbc it will only display files in the root of the shares. browsing sub-folders is a no no. i can see the sub folders, but it won't display any content of these folders.... *:(

problem solved as of build 2003-11-08 :d
directories now browse recursively and files are visible. thanks :d

are you sure about that? *it doesn't work correctly with relax shares for me with the 11/08 build. *in fact i spent yesterday evening fixing it and was about to submit the fix, but if it works for you i'm going to have to look again. *any way you could check relax on your setup and see if that works?
btw, the problem working with relax is when you specify shares as $root/$music or similar. relax sends back the directory listings with full path names and when xbmc tries to browse a directory on that list it gets confused because the name doesn't match any of its shares.
you can get around it by specifying shares with a path name, but that stops you from doing virtual directories with multiple real directories inside like you can with "named" shares.
thanks.

sorry meghead - i use ccxstream rather than relax, because i stream using linux as the host os. :(
i posted under this thread because the problem with relax appeared to be same symptoms as issue with ccxstream. ???
my "it works now" was meant to say "it works now with ccxstream"...

i have had this very problem ever since xbmc came out. *it would be nice to hear that one of the programmers is aware of this problem and working on it. *can anyone let us know if this relax issue is being addressed?
recap: it doesn't matter which menu you enter (music, videos, pictures), when you select a folder it kicks you back out to the root. *
i select movies
then select and sub folder (comedy)
i am now back out to movies
relax is set up properly and works ok with xbmp. *i have changed the layout as instructed in these forums, but it does not work!
i appreciate all you guys do for this program, xbmp is truly a work of art, i just wish this would work ... but, currently it doesn't. *thanks in advance for the info...
both relax & ccxstream work fine with xbmc.
but dont blindly copy your settings from xbmp -> xbmc
xbmc has a different xboxmediacenter.xml then xbmp
look @ the sample xboxmediacenter.xml file. this shows you how 2 add xns (relax) and xbms(ccxstream) shares.
there's 1 bug with relax and thats going up/back to parent directories. i've contacted raforce (author of relax) and he promised to fix it
so please look @ the sample xboxmediacenter.xml file.
and dont copy stuff from xbm->xbmc

this is from 2003-11-17 and the example xns isnt telling anything of how to come into sub relax shares...
this is from the org. config.xml

i think all of us can connect to our relax servers but we cant add specific shares...
i would like this to work...
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.1:1400/$root$movies</path>
</bookmark>
but it dont...
try something like this
<bookmark>
<name>network (xns)</name>
<path>xns://192.168.1.100:1400/d:/music</path>
</bookmark>
i would like this to work...
<bookmark>
<name>xns</name>
<path>xns://192.168.0.1:1400/$root$movies</path>
</bookmark>
like i said $root$ is not supported by xbmc
try something like this
<bookmark>
<name>network (xns)</name>
<path>xns://192.168.1.100:1400/d:/music</path>
</bookmark>
actually i would try:
<path>xns://192.168.1.100:1400/d:\music</path>
frodo
actually i would try:
<path>xns://192.168.1.100:1400/d:\music</path>
frodo
d:/music works fine for me...
if i put <path>xns://192.168.1.xxx:1400/g:/movies/</path> i can brows into some of the folders and when trying access others i get back to my movies selections screen.
another problem with typing the actual patch is that i have 4-5 filders on different drives and with a different path...
how do you do that, to see them in the same relax share?
i think you have to work something out here with the autor of relax to get it work similar to xbmp and relax...

well xbmp<->relax isnt working perfectly either.
as said b4 i'm talking with raforce who made relax about how we can fix all relax<->xbmc problems. however this can take a while so hold on...
frodo
off course i hold on as long as it takes...
just wanted to see if i did anything wrong and if not, notify you about it...
i really love xbmc. use it all the time now! olny time i have to use xbmp is when i wanna watch my .wmv home video that i dont have the energy to convert...

anything inside a folder will not play or display. all my albums are of course inside folders. the folders will display along with the album name but i have the same problem as everyone else here. i moved an mp3 outside a folder and it played just fine.

if you just use <path>xns://192.168.0.100:1400</path> (or what your ip and port are set to) you have to navigate to your movies, music and pics but everything will work.
this is the best way (for me atlest) so far until its fixed for real...
