View Full Version : Kaleidiscape like functionality
I am struggling to decide on my media player Apple TV with xbmc or a popcorn NMT. I prefer the apple option but I am swayed by the way several people have developed movie jukebox functions for the NMT some of which are very impressive eg NAMJ.
Is there any similar DVD artwork based browsing plugin for XBMC?

Perhaps you should take a look at some of the other available skins (Aeon, Horizonz, etc). They may have implemented a user experience more along the lines of what you are thinking. If not, feel free to post a more detailed description of what you are thinking and perhaps one of our 'Master Skinners' will be inspired.

I think you'll find xbmc is perfectly capable of browsing by DVD covers & fanart.
Thanks guys. Thats my mind made up. Once I have figured out the mechanisms of implementing these skins and features on my Mac I will then try to buy and MOD an apple TV.
I presume these are Mac Os compatable?
I have been searching for something with this kind of DVD coverflow/ media wall functionality for years but cant believe that looking for an old x box games site has brought me here. The only thing I could find was Kaleidiscape but at £5000 this would always be beyond my means.
I clearly have a lot of reading to do as I am not at all computer savvy and I need to find the other programmes responsible for populating all the information on the films (Director etc) that makes this such an experience.

All skins are compatible across all platforms.
XBMC will grab the metadata (cover art, fanart, plot, cast info, etc) for you.
Album and Cover Art
XBMC takes full advantage of broadband Internet connection if available, Artwork is automatically fetched for posters, artwork, fanart, synopsis and reviews on movies, plot, cast and episode information for TV shows, also album covers and artist information for music.
