Hi,

I just got a little question concerning my new Samsung LCD TV! This one supports finally 24p. I can't say that it works perfectly, but it is an obvious improvement to the last LCD.

But, of course, there is a new problem. The new TV is bigger and maybe I just didn't notice this problem with the old one...

The old one had those 3:2 pulldown effect because it couldn't handle 24p. This, I fixed with the new one. But yesterday I watched a movie. When the camera moved from the right to the left, it showed the landscape with some trees, the trees seemed somehow to flicker. I don't know any other english word to describe this problem. Then I checked some other movies, all 720p, and I noticed the same effect In many of the scenes...

This effect is only noticeable when the camera makes a horizontal move!

Does anyone know this problem?
Any solutions?

thanks,
SimBla

I would say it's your tv :) disable motion plus (or whatever it is called in your tv), digital noise reduction or anything that alters the picture in a digital processing way. try to switch your desktop to 24Hz from windows and play the same material with another media player (MPC-HC for start), you then can be sure if it's software's falut or your tv's fault...

Is 'Vertical blank sync' on?

I have the same thing.
I only get 100% smooth playback while using a player that supports reclock (http://reclock.free.fr/). Using reclock with MPC-HC or Zoom Player gives me perfect and smooth video.

Unfortunately thats not the case with XBMC.

But things seems to be getting better, and I'm sure that pretty soon this problem will be a thing of the past. Take a look at bobo1on1 post on this topic:

I enabled and disabled every single option in my TV and now noticeable differnce! Does anybody know some options for ati cards?

I also installed reclock and mpc but reclock won't work with mpc... Are there some options i have to enabled?

With an Ati card goto catalyst control centre -> 3d -> Wait for vertical refresh to Quality (Always On)

In xbmc -> screen -> set vertical sync blank to off.

The reclock thing in xbmc is being addressed soon AFAIK - but this shouldn't cause a "flicker" more of a barely perceptible "stutter"

In XBMC, it should be set to Let Driver Decide ..

that didn't work...
It made it worst. Now it seems like the hardware is to slow. there are "stripes" on the screen...

some other ideas?

Thats true. Sorry for any mistake. English is not my main language, so sometimes things get messed up.

But I don't agree with the "barely" part. I think that depends on who is seeing. For me, the difference is pretty big.

For the OP, you can press "O" during the video playback to get some informations. See if you have droped frames.

IBMC drops some frames at the begining. But after that everything seems to be just fine. any suggestions?
