Themes for PM3.HD

Ok, to start off I am so sorry I kept everyone waiting for a skin that didn't really pick up to well. I have ditched the creation of the Tempest skin, and I decided to focus my efforts on what I am actually decent at (graphics/theming). I realized that there is no way my skin would amount to much if some of these other wonderful skins I see being released aren't taking off well at all (wont name names). XBMC has lots of skins and not enough themes to customize the end-users experience anyway.

I have been REALLY busy in the past months. My family is falling apart, I have had to deal with the loss of my mother, I moved 3 times in the last 8 months and I am now looking at moving again etc. New PC etc. etc.
I'm not looking for sympathy just simply explaining just how hectic life has been lately.
So once again sorry everyone!

XBMC Themes SVN

I have started a new subversion project called XBMC Themes or XBMC Themes SVN. Right now I am the only one working on this project. I plan on bringing themes to many of the popular skins for XBMC, though right now my main focus is the default skin (PM3.HD).

Yeah, I thought I knew how to make some xpr's in linux but I don't. I don't have windows either so I will have to use a friends pc some time so I can make some WIP xpr's.
Until then I am going to zip all these graphics and upload them to my google code page. I also have some psd's to give.

UPDATE: The zip'd files are uploaded to my google code page. Remember that these are WIP's, so please don't tell me that they are incomplete 'cause I know this. I will update the page daily (if it applies) and the old outdated zip's for that theme will be deleted PERMANENTLY.

Nice work. The only reason I wouldn't download a few of them is because of the Labeling. For instance I really like the look of the NIN skin however I'm not to hip on the NIN on the skin. Don't get me wrong I dig NIN, but its just trying to keep that clean look without throwing unneeded labels on them.

I really and I mean really like the look of the Intrepid Ibex.HD one too.

I personally like the way everything looks with themes like the NIN theme. I may ask if there could be a skin setting in the PM3.HD skin so that the user would be able to select "use custom logo" or "use XBMC logo".

@ blittan - That is a great idea, and I would, but I had to use a USB stick install of ubuntu on my laptop because my dvd drive sucks. But if I can install windows in a VM without the need of a optical drive then i'll give that a try.

I have started a web site that will help to better maintain things. It will be a lot better than ,and less annoying than updating this thread all the time.

My site will be linked to the graphic in my sig.
I plan on making it a good size site with graphics and stuff for everyone to use to make their own theme. I will have color themes (xmls), psd's, tutorials, color schemes, etc.
All I want is to make it easy as hell to create a professional looking theme using the resources on my web site.

@streetliquid- Thanks for the kind comments. I plan on changing the home screen pics on one of them so they aren't near-identical. Since everybody likes the Intrepid Ibex.HD over the Hardy Heron.HD I think I am going to change up the Hardy Heron one.

@Moseby99- They used to be on the google code page in my sig but they have been removed, as well as the link was removed from my sig.
I was uploading my progress there, Not any more though. The link will go back up as soon as the web site is complete enough, since they are kinda tied together.

I have now made 14 color schemes, they are going on my website dedicated to theme creation and as soon as I have 50 color schemes I will release the site. At first it will just have my themes and color schemes (used to create your own theme), and I will add all kinds of stuff over time.
It's maybe 2 or so weeks out as it stands right now.

Great work! It's nice that someone is interested in creating themes for the best skin available for xbmc.

I'd like to know how to use them on my xbox considering none of the files are in .xpr format. If anyone could explain to me how to get these themes working in xbmc for the xbox, It'd be much appreciated as I know I can't be the only one that wants to use them.

IllumiNaughty was nice enough to include the two files in each theme to create the xpr files. Just download the svn using tortoise, click on the XBMCTex.bat file, it will create the xpr, rename it and drop it in your PM3.HD/media folder and you're done! :D


Oh one more thing! When you enable the "show programs in main menu" option from the "skin settings/home window", the skin might not look right. To fix it, just disable that option and maybe he'll fix it in the future. If you want easy access to your program plugins, just put it in your favorites. Cheers! ;)

Thanks for the kind comments! I do plan on getting these themes better developed soon. They kinda got set aside for now because the development I have been doing on getting a website for XBMC Themes SVN.

So far for the theme creation side of the site I have 20 or 21 "color schemes" (pretty much like a mostly completed colored theme). And I have a texture to replace the carbon fiber textures in PM3.HD, it is in 2 different sizes and in all colors available as color schemes.

I also plan on just finishing off the general layout of everything on the site and making it available as is with the current amount of materials. I will be constantly updating it after that with many more colors schemes and lots more graphics and things to make themes. And if anyone else wants to give it a stab after I get the ball rolling, go right ahead. Just zip up your work and email it to me and I will add it to the site.:cool:

@Paybac - Well I got busy as hell this last couple weeks outta nowhere so I haven't had much time to get that cranked out. I thought I was a day or 2 away last time I posted in this thread and I am still not done.
With any luck I will have things straightened out with my free time tomorrow.

Also, when the site becomes available I will have around 20 color schemes to start off instead of 50. Reason being; I did about 20 and got those uploaded then took a break, started working on more got about 15 more done and my 750 GB 'Maxtor OneTouch' died with them on it. Thats the second time something like that has happened to me in a short time span.:oo:

I mainly use PMIII too, I use XBMC for xbox (SD all the way). I really never get to use/see my own themes, I just know that most people these days see PM3.HD more than PMIII so I make these for those people.

i might have a look at converting one of your themes into the original PM3...
It would be cool to see one of my PM3.HD themes converted to PMIII.

BTW- I have some hours to spend on the website right now, fingers crossed. Also don't expect some fancy site, I may improve on it over time but that is in time. I am just trying to get things online soon.

The website is available with color schemes and very shortly will have other graphics. Like to replace the carbon fiber texture in the (pm3.hd) skin.

If someone wants to help with that whether you can give pointers on making them or maybe supply some, it would be nice. I tried before but each gif was a huge process to make(didn't look that good) and I know there is a easier way to do them.

The color schemes (with one exception) come with 20 different files. They may need to be eventually updated with more to complete them, but I know that they are a damn good start. As for the pattern that I have @ XBMC Themes SVN (http://sites.google.com/site/xbmcthemessvn/Home) it will have the download up tonight sometime.
If anyone wants to add anything to the site just PM me a link do download from like rapidshare or something and I will get it added to the site.

Not quite.
I think that is the home-focus.gif from jezz_x's blue color theme for PMIII.
The one for PM3.HD needs to be 40x41 (i think, may wanna double check that).
If someone knows how to make some good looking colored .gif's -not just for the home- that are the correct sizes for PM3.HD, I would like to have (6) colors red, yellow, blue, green, yellow, orange.

I am currently working on getting the last few things (@ the moment) online. I am also looking through the textures.xpr of pm3.hd to get ALL things color-converted then update the color schemes that are currently online.:grin:

Last question, does your blue theme replace the item focus from the green to blue? Or is it just header, footer, ect.?

It will work since XBMC will resize the image to fit, however then it suffers quality loss and the animation seems slow. I am not sure how the xbox would handle something like that either since gif's are a little much for it as it is so with the added resizing of it navigation may slow down too. (who knows though I haven't tried it).

Hope this works 4 u? havn't got HD to test it. But it pretty much identical to the original but a few more frames added. This also ups the file size from 13.3KB to 22KB hope that aint to much of a problem

Yea no problem go for it. I'm just working on colors for all the other .gifs. Once i have the base set up for 1 complete set it will be easy to to knock up the rest of the colors.

I actually like your animated gif's better than the original.
It's the way it glows from the center outwards in a more obvious manner. I dont know, I dont think I can explain it, I just like it better. It's good work.

Are those all the required files that i need in order to compile a .xpr file?
i downloaded a theme that has the above files and used XBMCTex.bat on 'em, placed the xpr file in my media folder and managed to select the new colour scheme. now it seems that all icons disappeared. the new xpr file is also only 2.9 megs oppposed to the 16.3 megs of the original pm3.hd xpr file

i'm sure i could contribute some nice themes once someone pushes me into the right direction.

The required files are 'however many gfx you want' in a theme, it's totally up to you what you put in a theme. If you wanted to you could make a theme with only one graphic packed into it (lets say the logo graphic for pm3.hd). It would seem like a REALLY incomplete theme but if the logo bothered you before then you just fixed it with a theme.

Just play around and see what you can do. Just keep the same dimensions as the default images.

Also, you need a textures.xpr in your media folder. The problem you experienced is because the textures.xpr has all the default gfx and the theme you make (theme.xpr) has the replacement gfx.
A skins code calls for say 150 specific images. By default it looks in the skins media/textures.xpr for all gfx. When you select a theme, it will instead look there for all the gfx, but if it doesn't find some gfx that it needs in the theme then it will resort to looking in the default textures.xpr
Pretty much all themes don't replace ALL the graphics for a skin so if you are using a theme XBMC is looking inside both xpr's simultaneously.
