View Full Version : OrigenAE MCE remote instead of MS
Hello
In Sweden it's pretty impossible to get a hold of the MS MCE Remote/Receiver. Instead I have found another remote which looks just the same, it's from OrigenAE.
Has anyone tried it?
This seems to be the one that most stores that had the MS MCE remote is offering instead:

I'm not sure how this works with LIRC though.

I'm using it in combination with an OrigenAE case (S16T) and the built in irtrans 210 solution and it works good (altough I miss the original Xbox remote which is just a bit better).
I think this remote from OrigenAE comes without a receiver, check that if you need one. If it does, it's just an MCE remote, but in a new shell.
I'm using the philips remote together with this receiver:

No problems with lircd.

Ok! I will buy a pack with the RC197 remote and a receiver. The receiver is either the one you pointed out, OVU4120 which also is a transmitter, or the OVU4110 which is receiver-only:

Does lirc include a good configuration file? Can you please post what you have changed to get it working. Also, do I have to make a custom Lircmap.xml (for XBMC) or does it use the mceusb portion of the default config?
I have the OVU4120, but i'm not using the transmitter part. I guess the OVU4110 should work as well.
Lirc didn't come with a proper config file for my remote, so i've created my own one using irrecord.
I also use a custom Lircmap.xml, since the buttonnames i use in my lircd.conf differ slightly from the ones used in the default Lircmap that comes with XBMC.
Also there are some buttons missing in the default Lircmap.xml, it lists only 42 buttons while the remote has 45.
Last thing i've done is make some changes in Keymap.xml to map some XBMC functions to keys on the remote. This should not be needed if you're happy with the default mappings.

Forget what i said. I connected the remote to another PC today (Ubuntu Jaunty) and everything's working out of the box. Both Lirc & XBMC.

Also discovered that today. I have Intrepid on my XBMC PC. Lirc is version 0.8.4a-0ubuntu2~intrepid1.
The RC197 with OVU4120 works perfect. Looks like this in dmesg when it's connected:

Can you poweron-off the PC with this remote/receiver?
Can you poweron-off the PC with this remote/receiver?
No, since it's powered over USB. You can probably get it to resume from suspend but I guess you can do that with all USB receivers as long as it's possible with your motherboard.
I'm using it to suspend and resume my PC.
Power-off won't be a problem too, but Power-on that's a big No.
Novin,
Yes, it seem to be a problem to get hold of MCE "standard" remotes in SE.
Can you confirm that the PHILIPS RC197 works with the included receiver?

I think many of the remotes are the same, it is the receivers that are the problem (?) I have a Pinnacle and it works with the MS dongle...but the Pinnacle dongle do not want to connect to lirc nor xbmc.

Yes! It works perfectly.
