im new to mythtv, which im trying to use as the backend for my live tv and recordings. im having a big problem with the way mythtv handles the channels listing.. no matter where i tell it to sort by name, i end up getting the list the same way as it was scanned (most probably its something im missing in its feature on how to sort this out) but as far as understand, myth's favourites consists of only one list (i.e. i can not make groups and add to them channels) and then even if this is possible, all gui's show only 'LiveTV' (which is basically the full list of channels) and don't show any other way to viewing livetv. i have over 3000 channels.

dreambox for example allows me to create groups, and it even allows to add within these groups like sub-groups (more like markers) so for ex. if i have a group movies, i can have under it like sub-marker / group 'english' and under that all english speaking movie channels.. and so forth.

and since mythtv is to some extent based on the database, why not make use of this to make a flexible gui that can allow such a thing.. this has nothing to do with what myth offers, one only needs to read the channels list from myth's db and on xbmc create its own favourites list of channels, that one can skip through, and when a channel is selected, then the myth's protocol kicks in to make it play... this fav's thing should all be an osd (some sort of context menu type of thing)

the same goes for the EPG....

im just thinking out loud here.. havent been able to look into any of the codes or structures yet (just a quick look into the myth's db tables)

sit back and relax, TV GUI is stalled, it should came up last summer (of code) and didn't. Then it didn't get to mainstream again, it's just sitting in a drawer.

You can post comments on the wiki entry I guess.

Actually, it is being worked on reasonably actively. Check out the trac report:

and contribute wherever you can.
