I am having problems setting the idle timeout and some screensaver options. I want the screen to turn off completely if i fall asleep during a show, like a sleep timer.

If i set idle timeout to 30 mins and suspend, nothing will happen.

Also the screensaver will dim only slightly no matter which percentage i use. If i set the screensaver to "black screen", it will also just dim slightly. Audio visualization screensaver during music will work fine though.

Anyone else able to get these functions to work using windows? I have the xbox version and all the functions work properly. Thanks.

I meant to write about this. The dim percentage seems useless to me as well. I remember on Xbox things getting really dim when set at 10%. This is not the case in Windows.

I think if you have a show playing that the idle will be disabled. Just my guess. I think it would only kick in once the show is over and it returns back to the XBMC interface.

I notice this too. I set it to 0% in the advancedsettings.xml and it doesn't change the dim at all.

yes, xbmc would not be "idle" during a tv show but would eventually go idle at the end of the show, and 30 mins(my current setting) from the end of the show the idle timeout setting should kick in. This is not the case though as when i wake up some 7 hours later or so the system is still up and idle.

As i said earlier, this functionality works perfect on the xbox version of xbmc.

Thats weird. I am using a version from last month but it goes right into the screen saver within 1 min (what I have it set to). So any of your other screen savers work like fan art or the regular slides show. Just set it to 1 min to test.

The screensaver function works, but it does not dim correctly or blank/black screen. The slideshow works as well, so i tried setting a folder with just one black photo in it but the screen is still lit pretty good and is not what i was really looking for.

The "idle timeout" function does not work at all.

I've created a ticket for the Dim screensaver (http://www.xbmc.org/trac/ticket/5844).

i'll make a separate trac ticket if it's not just me.

Same problem here. Rev 19052. Sleep idle timer has no effect. Sleep mode works fine from os or other aps. XP Sp3 clean.

Again, the dim mode depends of a gamma ramp which needs to be supported by the graphics hardware/driver which isn't always the case. I really think to remove that setting because it just confuses people where it won't work.

I really think to remove that setting because it just confuses people where it won't work.I find it hard to believe the developers can't come up with some software mode to dim the screen if the driver won't do it. My bigger issue is pausing a screen only offers dim mode and since it's not dimming the pause could cause a screen burn-in. Can't we at least get the pause to also use fan art or black the screen?

Not sure what you expect from us but not everyone is an expert here. Patches are always welcome so please provide one before offending people.
Anyway if you would have monitored the recent changes you would have noticed that an alternative dim screen saver was implemented.
