Hi, I've used XBMC since December, everything worked, but about a month ago, when I tried to launch it, it appeared the message "XBMC has stopped working".

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32bit, and XBMC 8.10 Atlantis.
My PC configuration:
- QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz
-4 GB RAM DDR2
-ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB
-Realtek ALC888/1200 @ Intel 82801GB ICH7

I uninstalled completely XBMC, even its user data files and I cleaned all traces of it. After reboot I re-installed it but I had the same problem.
I think the problem is due to K-Lite Codec Pack that I installed. I'm not sure 100%, but probably after I updated it, XBMC stopped working.
I don't remember which version I had of the Codec Pack before, but after I had problems with XBMC i updated one more time to K-Lite Codec Pack 4.5.3, but no way to launch XBMC.

Debug log http://pastebin.com/f753fe963

Thank you.

The codec pack _shouldn't_ have any effect on XBMC since XBMC doesn't use any external codecs.

I'm not a XBMC developer or anything. But from your logs it looks like the app is having trouble accessing the profile directory. Have you tried the latest Jester SVN build?

I agree. Verify that the XML files in the log you posted exist, and that the user you're logged on as has access to them.

Yeah, he might have accidentally told a UAC dialog to deny access. The first thing any Vista user should do is disable that junk.

I haven't used Atlantis in a while, but I have got a recommendation. Uninstall everything again, then righ click the Setup program and click "run as administrator." Then, when you first start XBMC do the same thing.

In my extremely amateurish opinion, it looks like Vista is making it hard for XBMC to write certain necessary files. As a double check of that, you might navigate to

C:\Users\Alberto\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\sou rces.xml

and see if that file exists. If it does, my solution probably won't help much.

Ooh! Bitplane's idea is good too. The UAC definitely looks like the likely culprit here in some form or other.

You were right!
I set it to "Run as administrator", and now it works!
Really thank you!

Those error messages about missing xml files would not cause xbmc to fail.
Those files do not need to exist in order to run xbmc.
