Foreword
First of all, thanks for the patience and support. It's been an age since Volume III hit these forums, and regretfully, it was a hell of a trip getting from that version to this one, for obvious reasons. First things first, thank you to all of you who have donated to the PC Fund, and made it possible to be picking up a new PC in the week. I'll also like to itterate my thanks to all the guys and girls who have kept this forum running over the last month while I've been ultra busy. Your messages, and (entertainment) have kept hope alive on this project, and I thank each and every one of your for whatever kinda post you've made, whether encouraging, excited, suggestive, or dam right crazy. And to the latest bunch of crazy conversations, dam, u guys know how to knock each other outta the ballpark. Finally BlackRose got the kinda conversation she enjoys having. LOL!!!
Anyways, so here it is, Volume IV. It has 95% of the suggestions i've made in the Feature Packs, and a few more. But sadly, I haven't had the time, or internet access, to collect the Donatees Nicks so I could put you guys in Volume IV as I promised. But you guys know who you are, so heres another Thank You from me to you. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the new release. It's probably buggy as crap, so let me know whats happening and I'll add it to my TODO list for Volume V. On a sad note, Progress will slow down a bit due to my hectic work schedule, but I'll try my best to keep things ticking with progress reports and so on. Concepts will change, and Volume V will be a graphical update. Anyways, enjoy and stay well. I think this was worth the wait, but who knows, maybe it sucks, LOL! L8r boys and girls! No screenshots for now, coz they've already been spread all over the place. So look for them in here if u want!!! I'll update the release thread after this, but I don't have the time now, to update the screeners, sorry dudes!

- Updated Light Crest Effect inefficiencies across the skin
- Updated Home Scrollers so they are less transparent and more visually catchy
- Updated Poster view by correcting certain defects

A few things I noticed...
1) In 'TV Shows' -- how can I remove "(W:, U:)" from the display?
- I tried turning off Watched overlays, thinking it was this?
2) Frames seems to be a very personal preference. I'm wondering if just removing the frames completely... this would allow the image to be larger (easier to see for us old people) and end the requests for changes.
3) I like the addition of the small angled panels at the bottom... are you planning to match the time/weather & RSS panels to that style... I think it would be cool!

i did this to get the scan dialog to pop up ..

Awesome, thanks for that fix!
I have to say, I like the new skin as a whole, but those new frames have got to go. the top-left corner is badly drawn, but even if it were perfect it still doesn't work. Then the dynamic info panel is up in Info views, the asymmetrical frame also creates a weird optical illusion whereby the panel looks bent out of shape as well.
I do hope someone fixes it, as the rest of the skin is very nice.
One thing though - is it just me or has the RSS feed stopped working?

my only suggestion for this dialog would be maybe to somehow let the user know the progress of the scan
in Rocky's fix .. where it says Library .. how about have it cycle through the letters of the alphabet which correlate with the progress
this would also mesh well with the rest of the skin cause normally that part of the dialog box holds a single letter that correlates with the item selected
A few niggles from me...
The RSS feed takes ages to get going. It should be as soon as it starts up.
Fanart - far too slow to load, and that "eye" background inbetween them is annoying.
If anyone knows how to fix both of these, I'll be a happy bunny.
I am not having any RSS issues from what I can tell.
I'm wondering what it would look like if we completely remove all the cover frames, in every category... I don't think they really add anything, and they may detract considering there is already so much eye candy on screen.

Yeah thats the one ROcky, and I know there are alot of others who would rather do without it. Seems to be a 50/50 split at the moment. I just think its quality is below the rest of the skin.

What do we do with the .xpr ?
I noticed that the update panel at the bottom of the screen (as when it is updating the music library) shows even when playing a movie... is this a bug or a setting somewhere?

Yeah but how do we apply the XPR? :)
If you have downloaded a file called textures.xpr then this has to replace the one inside the skins media folder.
you will of course have to change skins while doing this......

Anyone willing to make the aspect ratio OSD now? When watching a movie and changing the aspect there is no longer a visual OSD to tell you which aspect you've chosen.

Rocky I tried getting your frames mod to work in the 5 minutes I tried before heading to work this morning. I just put your XPR file into the folder that has Horionz XPR file. What exactly should I do?

I don't know how to replace this XPR file with the older one... if I replace the file I lost all texture skins, if I copy this file in the texture directory nothing appening!!

special characters from foregein languages are not showing up just like before.
Has anybody else having problems running this on windows?
I'm running XBMC Rev17124-jester and upto now no problems for the hell of it i thought i would try version 4 horizon after it loads up it cycles through all the Brown coloured icons at full screen and i have tried to turn them off, but sadly no joy the odd thing is it runs ok on my xbox? i have also tried re downloading it and re installing xbmc but the same problem. has anybody else noticed this problem any suggestions would be helpful.
Ps Version 3 works fine on my pc running XP pro service pack 3 With all current microsoft updates
It's ok guys i figuerd out what the problem was it turned out to be a problem with this release of horizon and with that have deleted the skin as it is too buggy even for xbox.
Will wait for the final release if it gets finished

Just had a look at that, but the xpr from Aeon Alpha14 seems to be protected. If anyone can get an unprotected xpr I'll give it a go.

Found another bug in the skin
TV shows that are single season, when you highligh them in TV show library, and let the Name, Director, Rating pop-up, then you press enter to enter the TV Show, no episodes show up, all you see on the screen is the fanart, with empty field for Director, Ratings.
For the episodes to show up you have to press the directional button.

another thing, maybe i'm missing something what happend to dialog saying that it is scanning media?
Since release IV, it doesn't show anything on screen if TV episodes are scanned or not.
IT is hard to see if media is scanned or not.
or maybe I missed setting?

second bug, if you have any single season TV shows, hover over the name, and wait for the extra media info to show (Show name, rating, director, description), once it shows. press enter to enter the TV show.
When you do that, no episodes will show up. on screen you will see fanart and still the director, rating info. when you press left or right then episodes will show up.

OK the bug iam getting is presents n volume III if i go into a tv show single season wait for the info to come up then press B i get this.

now if i put the tv shows into episode view then i exit out of the show with B then press A and go back in i get this.

Now these are on volume III and the same for volume IV so am not sure what file to edit as i cant seem to find the views.

Ok been tinkering with the new Frame as i like it but i hated the overlay on it it was far to sharp so i fixed that also softened it up abit as it was to grainy looking.
here is a pic of it.

Very nice work on the frames - The rounded corners still look a little stretched on the vertical axis, but it's a definite improvement.
Personally I think the original AEON alpha frames looked the best - the new ones look a but too dark and dirty, more cheap plastic than frosted glass.
Just my 2c.

anyway you can post a pic of which ones your talking about ? or at least which version of aeon i should download to see so i can compare and give my 2 cents .. personnaly the new frames are starting to grow on me .. but i still like the non-universal frames from V3 .. gave different views a 'unique' feel which i liked

I'm with you on that pletopia, well, except for the episode frame out of V3, was too large compared to actual episode thumb.
Might try and wrap up an xpr with the old frames, and a new episode frame. My xpr from V3 won't unpack, anyone got the frames? Or unprotected xpr?

you know .. i do kind of like the square look of the frame versus the rounded edge considering the poster is square-ish
HOWEVER ..
i went back and i think i also like the 'DVD/CD case' look of V3 ...
I'M SO CONFUSED .. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO USE

I actually packaged it up with 'blank' frames. To be honest it didn't really work. The total skin design really needs some type of poster frame there. The square edges just looked too hard.
As for the frames... the outisde edge should match the inside edge or it just does not look right.

Yeah i made my own frames and rared them up with the dialogue fixes that i have finished.

Here's an idea. Why doesn't Rocky work with Xb2? Especially now he is so busy with work and setting up a new life in a different country.
An open skin with interested people working on it will go much quicker and be better for it. Thoughts? :)
I've found a bug.
When you use the update function of the VideoMonkey, in PM3 you get a dialog box saying which file is currently updated, and showing a progress bar.
Horizonz does show something in the bottom left corner, but you don't really see what is happening.
I haven't read all of this thread, hope I'm not the n-th idiot reporting the same bug. ;)
Nice 2 see everyone is getting involved in making Horizonz better... I dig the new frame ideas and the corrections on the dialogs... so, thanks a lot to Rocky5 and Cranial, coz time is a hard thing 2 come by these days... nyways, not planning on making Horizonz more stable right now, coz Volume V will be a full graphic update... or partial depending on how much I can get done in a certain timeframe... but yes, thanks again guys! I'll grab ur updates and add it to my build, before I add new graphics into the mix!
Has anyone come up with a solution to get fanart scrolling to work like it did in V3? I did the same workaround (removing Control(899)) but it's still REALLY choppy and the grey eye interjects itself between fanart pics. Any ideas on how to get it smooth again or is this just the way it's gonna be...had to revert back to V3 as it just ruins the whole experience.

+1 - I've rolled back to v3 too because of this. The old workaround does not work on v4 and having that blackeye backdrop flashup everytime you scroll through TV shows etc is a deal-breaker.

Just change the grass.png in the default folder inside of the xpr. Replace it with whatever u want.

Can anyone tell me where the word "Timer" is being pulled from in this screenshot? The info gets displayed by an old CallerID python script on the Xbox (XBMC.Notification I think). I don't remember seeing this in version III. Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is due to the IV version or Rocky5's excellent dialog mods, but I seem to have lost the highlight on Yes/No in any dialogs that uses it. I can no longer tell what's selected. Anyone else experiencing this?

The dialogue works for me at one point nothing worked correctly so i just replaced all the xmls with the original then copied over the edited ones that fixed it.
but also all i have done to the yes no dialogue is fixed its txt colour and moved the txt about so there is no reason for it not to work as its basically stock.

Hey guys, I used the .xpr in the this download and I replaced the .xpr in the media folder after renaming OLD Frames.xpr to Texutures.XPR but I'm getting this.

un-delete the file
put the downloaded old textures.xpr in same dir as textures.xpr that comes with horizon V4
go to settings -> Screen -> Look and Feel
change skin theme to Old Textures

I did exactly what you said but when selecting the theme there are not any listed. I have both the textures.xbr and OLD Frames.xbr in the media folder under Horizonz and in xbmc no themes show. only 1/1 skin default.

That is a bug that has been fixed in the newest svn build download that and your sorted or go back to Rev17341 this hasn't got that bug.

I did this last time around, but I guess it never made it into Vol 4.. A few people asked me for it, so here it is in case anyone else could use it..
Just a quick fix to put showcase view in Clips and Adult.. This includes whatever editing Rocky did to the fullscreenviews file..

Never mind what I said in the last post.. The Watched/Unwatched toggle works fine.. What I was trying to do was only have the (W: U: ) on the info window that slides in and not on the main screen, but I figured it out..
Also, I don't know if it's just me, but I'd rather see the letter scroller only while scrolling.. I don't need to know what letter I'm on while not scrolling.. Takes away from the art on screen I think.. So I changed that, but I'm still messing with the timings..
So when's Vol. V coming? What's the hold up?? :p

I would like to have all my childrens movie appear when I go to Clips. And all my regular movies when I go to Movies.

Unfortunately you can't have separate libraries.
I have my "Kids Shows" set up in a separate location as my movies, and I set them up as a separate source in XBMC. Then I rename clips to "KIDS" and direct the shortcut to my "Kids Shows" source in videos. It's not a library view, just the files view, but I have thumbnails for all those movies, and that's all my kids need is a visual way for them to choose their movies.

:grin: funny that you should ask - I use profiles in XBMC.
Example;
Master Profile = access to movies, tv, music, comics
Home Profile = access to home movies (soon), karaoke (working great), pictures
*example music has it's own library in master profile and karaoke has it's own library in home profile
You can have profiles share databases/sources or you can select the databases to be separate as I noted above.
I encourage you to play around with it and check out the XBMC wiki if you need some setup tips
