I don't think you really mean 'operating system', but XBMC Live is probably what you're looking for.

No, XBMC is not an OS. It's an Application used to play audio and video files.
If you want to have XBMC auto run after booting, now that's a different question.
If you want a dedicated XBMC, then check out XBMC Live.

i am after a machine dedicated to xbmc (now other operating system) just press the on button and up springs the xbmc splash

You could easily install Ubuntu on your machine and have it automatically log in when you turn the computer on. After that, download and install XBMC and then use the "Sessions" to have XBMC auto run when your user session has started.
