i listen to a radio station that uses a .asx audio stream is this going to be implemented cos i have to m$ media player and a pc at the moment and it would be nice to let the xbox do it.
can you also tell me if it is possible to play all files in a directory? for example on xbmp i just naviage to the directory containg the mp3 files and then in the left menu select play and then all files are played in alpabetical file order one at a time and i can then use the xbox remote to skip any i dont want to hear.
if this feature isnt available it would be very useful.

yeah if xbmc could use other ways to get audio sreaming radio stations like windows media player does it would be excellent. *most radio stations are broadcast in .asx audio for windows media player.
the staion i want to receive is :
http://audio.musicradio.com/gold.asx

can xbmc play the same audio/radio streams from the web as windows media player uses? *i thought the latest version *(2003-12-08) did but i cant find anywhere to enter the web address ie. http://audio.musicradio.com/gold.asx. * if its not yet implemented then maybe someone could tell me if its planned at all?
i hate using the pc & m$ windows media player to do something i know the xbox could easily do.

the radio stations i would like to receive use a .asx audio stream and they are not available on shoutcast. if the xbmc is to be the only and best media player you would need then it needs to be able to play these types of audio streams.
so far my xbox is playing all my cds, mp3s, dvds, showing photos & pics, basically letting me use it as a media player as part of my hi-fi system but i still have to go upstairs and boot the pc upp to hear the radio stations. thats a shame.

mplayer can play those streams, i use it for that all the time. the xbmc coders just need to code an interface to let you do so without using the shoutcast module, because the shoutcast module can't play them. i've been asking for this for a while, and they don't seem to care to implement it.

not true, the devs are planing to implement other internet streaming than shoutcast but prioritise important basic things first

i understand there must be priorities and i am very thankfull for what you guys are giving the xbox, but i thought making xbmc capable of playing all the things that people do with windows media player on their pc's was important.

i was wondering if streaming media via http protocol with xbmc is possible? *as far as i know mplayer supports it but i couldn't find anything in these forums that says you can feed it a url and it will stream the video from a local http/web server.
if it isn't already a feature in xbmc, is it on the todo list? or do i need to make a post in the feature request section?
thanks in advance,
cp

i agree as well. i think its most important to be able to play what windows media player can & more where possible especially as there are now 2 linux apps (mplayer & totem) that can play this kind of media.
i am using "totem" media player in xebian linux on my xbox to play streaming media from the internet especially internet radio stations.

both end-users and developers should know that there is more than one way media files are streamed from the internet, like:
- streaming media files from http (internet) (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817642&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
- real-time streaming protocol ( rtsp/rtp ) (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817647&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
- realmedia rtsp/rdt streaming from internet (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817648&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
- microsoft media streaming protocol (mms) (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817643&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
mplayer supports streaming from above but not sure if xbox bios/os & xdk-libs do by so devs might have to code workaround

this might be somewhat related, low-level wise, or mplayer wise (ogg vorbis audio streaming over internet)
