View Full Version : [LINUX/MAC/WINDOWS] On2 VP7 video decoder in XBMC Linux, Mac, and Windows

Hello.

Yesterday I tried playing back a video encoded in the VP7 codec, to no avail. Only sound could be played and the video remained illusive at best. Playback outside XBMC works fine as I have the On2 codec to decode the stream along with FFDShow filters.

Can anyone confirm successful playback of VP7 on XBMC in Windows? I tried looking online and in these forums for confirmations but I can't seem to find the answer I need. Please help.

I had some videos in VP7 and I can confirm that they won't work in XBMC. Since it's kind of an obscure codec, I never expected them to implement it so I just re-encoded them into a format that XBMC would play.

XBMC for Linux/Mac/Windows uses FFmpeg open source codec suite as the video and audio decoders, and FFmpeg do not support decoding VP7 yet, see:
