Hi,
I have a problem with running xbmc live from DVD.
I have a machine with M3N78-VM mobo, AMD x2 4850e CPU, 1Gb DDR2 RAM, LG IDE DVD-RW. (No HDD)
I burnt DVD from latest Live ISO.
After the initial (character-based) xbmc menu, it hangs (loops - with an error message that I can't remember at the moment).
I used inetbootin to burn ISO to USB stick, changed boot=CD to boot=USB, still hangs (loops with error as above) unless I disable DVD in bios.
I have seen some issues on here with not being able to access DVD after booting xbmc but not an issue of boot hanging.
Anyone able to help?
Regards,
Mike

Mike,
We need the error message please. You should be booting of the CD until XBMCLive sets up your USB stick. You should let the cd boot to the menu choose 0 and then when asked insert the USB stick. Then let is partition, format, password and then setup storage space.
It will then shut down the system for you. Then you reboot and tell the bios to boot from Hard drive (USB) Stick. if all else fails after the setup you can hit f8 on the way up and get your boot menu and choose the usb stick.
This board should boot just fine from the CD I have done it 100 times at least in the bios stock form. So if it keeps giving you an error than I would say you have a bad iso burn and would try it again.

Thanks, Dave.
I will have another go tonight and take snapshot of error screen.
I burnt ISO to DVD-RW disk, not CD as I don't have any, using Brasero from Ubuntu. After picking option from first boot screen the boot process starts but hangs (loops, with the same error message repeated).
As you correctly surmised, I want, eventually, to do a full install xbmc to the USB stick and, having a small amount of tech-savvy (enough to really balls things up but not enough to fix it!), I decided to test by using inetbootin to put xbmc live on the USB stick.
If I boot off USB stick with the IDE DVD enabled in the bios (but no disk in), I get exactly the same issue.
If I disable the IDE DVD in the bios it boots into xbmc live off the USB stick.
I post snapshots of error and exact process of what I did tonight.

Mike,
I spent the day playing with inetbootin and I am not sure if that is the way I would be trying to install Live. You should use isobuster or dvddecrypter to burn your iso to dvd.
I finally figure out after a few tries that the base install (boot package) is to be loaded on the flash to boot from and then that will install the package you chose to the hard drive.
I might be wrong but it seems like the long way around.

Well, after what seems a lifetime of fun and frolics, I'm back to the real world and trying to get XBMC live working on the afore mentioned system.
I still had the issue with XBMC not booting from the LIVE DVD - until I started to get the laptop out to load a screenshot on here of the error message, this took me 10 minutes, with the PC looping on this XBMC error message when, lo-and-behold, it booted into XBMC!
I am now going to do an install to USB and see where that takes me. Maybe then I'll have a system that boots but can't play DVD's? I love XBMC!

Same issue when booting with option 0, install to USB stick but waiting the 10 minutes approximately allowed it to continue and install to USB.
Rebooting after install (removed DVD from drive) still has a problem but instead of seeing an error message looping on screen, the XBMC logo & boot progress bar stops at the 2nd marker. I didn't leave it 10 minutes, just disabled the IDE controller in bios to allow me to continue.
So, I still have a problem with being able to boot XBMC from either LIVE CD or after installing to USB stick.
I then took some time to look at upgrading nvidia drivers to 180.22, all okay. I only have to sort out this IDE controller issue and upgrading ALSA to get HDMI audio output (which I'll leave for the thread about "HDMI AUDIO success").
