MCE remote working with vista XBMC

Hi
I can`t get my remote to work properly with vista xbmc.
I have tried ir remote server. I got it to work once, but after a reboot it doesent work any more..

The remote works about 50%, but i miss some essential functions/Features..
Rewind, stop, skip, next and more...

I`ve got a pinnacle pctv remote kit(mce standard), and a harmony one i want to work with the xbmc.

Where can i find a guide to make this happen?

Is there any "how to use ir remote server" guide out there??

I use IR Server Suite with my Harmony mapped to the MCE remote and it works great. Make sure the Input service is starting on boot.

There's also an issue where the remote stops working when resuming from Standby/Hibernate. There's ways to fix that, but I would suggest just getting the remote to work first.

When i reboot it doesent work anymore..
I stopped the ir remote server and startet it again(stop and play), then it works like a dream.
Windows vista will not start the server at boot...why?? is there any settings in vista for this??

I actually had this exact same problem. I assume it has something to do with the IR Server Suite, rather than XBMC, because hitting the start button actually starts Vista Media Center from within XBMC.

I solved the problem by ignoring it, uninstalling IR Server Suite, and installing Event Ghost. The most recent version should have an XBMC plugin for you, and I can share my personal configuration file (as Event Ghost requires us to make our own), if you don't want to make one.

The guide I linked to before is the only guide I know of. I use IR Server Suite on a Vista 32bit box and it works perfectly. I followed that guide to set it up.

Did you make sure to download the latest test release of IR Server Suite?

The remote does not work after a reboot of the system.. if i stop the service, and start it again, it works great..

That's definitely the latest version.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It worked right out of the box for me.

One theory I have is that the service is starting before your remote is available. If you could delay the service starting on bootup somehow, it might just work.

Also, try this. In your Server Suite configuration, have it disable the Windows Media Center services and turn off the box that says something like "handle advanced features".

might possibly be a simple system restriction where the service is not allowed to start on bootup/login without admin rights as long as UAC is enabled and the service was installed by a restricted user.

i would
- disable UAC temporarily to test if that's the case and the service will start up on next boot and/or
- delete the service, log in as administrator and install it again.

maybe that helps.

Good tips. I totally forgot about UAC. I have it disabled and the service works fine.
