Hi guys,

I know I am not going to be including all the required information (but will when I get home tonight), but thought I would just ask the question :

Does anyone else notice a delay when opening video files in either file or library mode?

The issue I have is that when I choose a movie, it take about 20 seconds before the "buffering" screen appears. So its not that it takes 20 seconds before the movie starts, but 20 seconds before it starts to open and buffer the file.

I had the debug mode turned on and I notice that it almost seems like xmbc "freezes" as the cpu usage and all the stats stop updating, then once the movie starts playing, the stats start updating again.

The bigger the file, the bigger the delay.

Just curious if this is something that had popped up before that I couldn't find when I did my search (which i have done multiple times as I have been having this issue since I installed xbmc for windows).

Will provide my pc specs, rev of xbmc, and pastelog if this is not an known issue.

Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions as to why this might be happening. And sorry for not providing all the information in this email, i had 10 minutes free at work, so thought I would post the question :)

Rob

As usual we need the debug logs in order to help ;)
Are the videos stored locally or remote?

wow quick response :)

they are store remote and access via smb.

I'll try a local file and provide the debug log for both this evening.

yeah log will help.
Try disabling any firewall and post the results.

Where are the videos stored? Another Windows box, Linux box, NAS device?

My videos are shared out on another Windows box and they load just fine. I'm using a SVN build from yesterday.

Logs say it all - it's looking for subtitles. Could possibly be due to the subfolder being set to something that's not available?

that's what I thought to (having to do with subtitles) when I looked at the log.

Is there a way to turn off subtitles as I can't find it anywhere as I don't use them?

From Audio OSD uncheck "enable subtitles" then hit "use these settings for all videos"

I have problems about delay in opening network stream RMVB video files. I have to wait about a few seconds to watch RMVB. other video format is fine.

Thanks guys, disabling subs fixed the delay (its only about 2 seconds now instead of 20).
