hey i have these shows that are in aac format. they sound really good on the pc but i get no sound on xbmc :(. well i was looking at supported codecs and i saw this

aac, m4a, mp4 (mpeg-4 audio) unprotected containers

no idea what unprotected containers means lol but im wondering how come im not getting any sound at all if the codec is supported? any help.

i also downloaded the codec pack so its upto date and i have the latest xbmc as of today.

what "shows" do you have, need much more info on the meida files (can you upload a sample, see faq). unprotected means it can't have drm

there's two types of aac if i recall, the standard aac (i can't remember its exact name) and he-aac (high efficiency- which is recommended for low bitrates)

i think mplayer supports standard aac but not he aac... yet

i think mplayer supports standard aac but not he aac... yetmplayer-rc4 supports he-aac, thus so does xbmc cvs since we integrated it a few weeks back. (ps! very latest mplayer cvs (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) use libfaad2 2.0)

 whoops sorry gamester17, i checked a while back and assumed there had been no changes.

i bow down to your superior knowledge on all things xbmc

hmmmm.... then i can't really think of why his aac encoded audio don't work then

more info would be helpful though

are we talking muxed aac in eg an .avi or an audio .aac file here?

nagmine
2004-06-08, 22:21
alright i see there may be something different.
audio: aac q10
video: 640x480 wm9vcm vbr

im guessing the q10 is the problem ... :(
i asked and someone says it means quality 10 and thats its pretty high bitrate

i tryed to get a sample using virtual dub mod ... but it just cuts the sound out when i try to do a small segment. (also i tryed the faq .... it apears to be down)

bump!

i too have this problem with the latest cvs.

file stats....

title: fullmetal alchemist
group: kickassanime
audio: aac q10
video: 640 x 480 wm9vcm vbr
soundtrack: japanese
subtitles: english hardsubs (based on akeep & anbu's translation)
source: dvd r2
average size: 233 mb

when playing the file only the video is displayed, when pressing the info button, only the video codec is displayed, it's blank where the audio codec is displayed

what does "aac q10" mean? is it a variation of the aac codec or? (xbmc only support aac profiles: he, main, lc, ltp & ld, + er).

can you guys try play the same file on a pc using mplayer for windows or mplayer for linux (version rc4, then try latest cvs), result?

nagmine
2004-06-10, 21:38
the other day i was gona try and test it on mplayer for windows but ... dos comes up for like a second then disapears before i can read anything lol. is there any tuts on how to run it on windows xp?

nimbles
2004-06-11, 00:40
launch mplayer from a cmd screen:

e.g. start-> run. type "cmd"

then when in the dos window, navigate using cd\ to whereever you stored mplayer, good idea would be to have something like "c:\mplayer" so then you don't have to mess around with long a file path. then when in the path run the exe file

alternatively you could use the gui for win32- its a bit buggy but works ok most of the time :hmm:

nagmine
2004-06-11, 04:23
lol where is this gui i cant seem to find it and ive just started to relize how much dos ive forgotten lol

i was asking the people who do the encodes about there version of aac and they said the fallowing about mplayer support.

... that aac is the same aac that whoever using aac audio uses.

that q10 thing is refered to the quality of the audio, nothing to do with the codec name.

i think that mplayer and similar already have built-in aac support.

--- if it fails for mplayer it's cuz there is a bug. search the forums and you will find how to solve it (you have to dl something from the cvs or something like that)

nimbles
2004-06-11, 21:55
read this readme (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/releases/win32-beta/readme.txt)

then go upone level (remove the "readme") and you should see it think it comes bundled with an mplayer not sure if its the latest

think its in the "old" folder

ripcurl
2004-06-11, 22:07
so this can be solved with some dll's?

nagmine
2004-06-11, 22:22
ok i tested it out using mplayer + frontend (link http://deje.uw.hu/) the video played fine with audio. so .... im guessing either its a bug or .. lol i have no idea .

2004-06-11, 22:48
did you try it on the latest xbmc cvs??

nagmine
2004-06-12, 03:50
i have 6/06/04 build

azmo
2004-06-12, 14:37
same problem on june 6 build, but it seems to be fixed in june 11 build. :)

nagmine
2004-06-12, 17:25
hmm i just tryed it on 6/11/04 and am not getting any different. still no audio :(

azmo
2004-06-13, 09:05
terribly sorry, error on my part. had two versions of the same file, one encoded in ac3, one aac, ran the wrong one the second time.

nagmine is right. it works in mplayer+frontend as well as media player classic with libfaad 2.0 built in, but not xbmc.

will try not to read forums after drinks next time. :hmm:

2004-06-13, 09:45
i sent a wmv3 w/aac (q10?) sample to www.xboxmediaplayer.it/upload -- at least i think i did. after i added the comment and pushed save it redirected to the upload page without confirming.

cheers,

azmo

is there any update on this? should it be submited as a bug since even mplayer on windows plays it fine?

is there any update on this? should it be submited as a bug since even mplayer on windows plays it fine?depends, which version of mplayer did you try?, we use mplayer rc4 as the xbmc core (and will not updated it until after xbmc 1.0 final),
i'd say if mplayer rc4 for windows/linux plays it with it's native codecs, (ie. does not require any dll's) then and only then it is a "bug".

i've still the same problem and can't get a file with acc to work. only the video show up but no audio.
i use the 2004-06-19 build and the acc is muxed in a .avi
audio: aac q10
video: 704 x 396 wm9vcm vbr
is there any way to get run on xbmc?

sorry for the bad english.

still, no one of you have tried it in mplayer for linux or mplayer for windows on a pc yet(?), have to work there before can get added to xbmc

i stated earlyer in the post that i tested it using mplayer +frontend for windows. it played fine no audio problems at all. thats why i was asking if it should be added as a bug.

Gamester17
2004-06-24, 13:02
and i asked which exact version of mplayer did you try? ;)

nagmine
2004-06-24, 17:35
hmm well on the player it says mplayer dev-cvs-040608 then cuts off so im not sure about that lol.

im using this mplayer http://deje.uw.hu/
the latest one

well i grabbed some of kaa's encodes and had a look.

the problem seems to be the fact that it's aac audio in an avi container. if you take the video and audio and mux it into an mkv file (which supports aac natively) then it works fine. so it's not that the audio can't be played it's just that it's not being demuxed properly. avi isn't really supposed to hold newer codecs such as aac, it was never designed to. it requires some dirty hacks to get it working.

mplayer for windows won't detect the audio in an avi, it will in an mkv. so it looks like an mplayer problem not an xbmc one. because of this you'll have to wait till mplayer includes support and then wait till the mplayer code is updated in xbmc. or you can mux into mkv.

edit: just looked back over the thread, it was 1.0pre4 i tested with (which xbmc uses), i'll try with an upto date cvs build of mplayer, since nagmine said he got it working. probably been sorted in mplayer cvs.

edit: yep from what i can tell it's a problem with mplayer 1.0pre4 which xbmc uses. it works in newer cvs versions of mplayer.

hey thanks for the research deltop ( i knew i wasnt crazy ;) ) . i figured the problems was just an outdated mplayer cvs in xbmc so ill just wait , no biggy. im sure they will have it figured out in v1 of xbmc :)

cant wait

2004-07-20, 22:06
hey i was just wondering if there has been any update on this. ive been gone for like 3 weeks and i see that v1.0 is out but after testing i see nothing has changed. looking good though anyways

bump

im not trying to be a bug or anything im just wish i could watch all my anime with..... sound lol *:sniffle: any chances the developers plan on updating the mplayer core in xbmc anytime soon?

deltop
2004-07-30, 01:06
afaik the dev who's most likely to update the mplayer core to mplayer-pre05 is on holiday atm. so hopefully it'll be done in the not too distant future :)

2004-09-27, 21:30
is this problem fixed yet? i have 26-09-2004 cvs with the new mplayer-pre05 core but it'll still play the .avi file without sound.

hi,
can you test whith this mplayer (http://www.telefonica.net/web2/ezarzone/mplayer.rar)? (unrar into mplayer dir)
it's a port of actual mplayer cvs... and it add a libfaad 2.1...
or... can you submit a file codec in aac q10?

emefbiemef
2004-09-27, 23:25
hmmm....strangely it works now :joker: so i take it that this mplayer.dll is the one from mplayer standalone cvs itself, not that of xbmc's mplayer cvs (cvs: xbmc/mplayer), is it not?
anyways, great work and thanks a lot  i really wish i had a credit card right now so that i could donate some bucks to you guys :joker:

ezar2003
2004-09-28, 00:21
yes.
it's based in mplayer team cvs (libfaad cvs, xvid cvs...), but it incorporate changes for port it to xbmc... (some includes in xbmc\mplayer cvs)...
when mplayer makes another version (pre6 or 1.0) we update xbmc\mplayer... but you can use/test this (http://www.telefonica.net/web2/ezarzone/mplayer.rar) until a new version it's released...
i update mplayer.dll every/two days... in the same link...

emefbiemef
2004-09-28, 01:38
cool. may i ask, exactly what do you change in the original mplayer cvs source in order to port and make it usable by xbmc? is it pretty much the same as compiling mplayer.dll cvs for xbmc?
