STEP 0: Before you even THINK about posting a problem report, have you SEARCHED (http://xbmc.org/forum/search.php) the forum ? AND the WIKI (http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=XBMC_for_Windows_specific_FAQ) ? No ? *smack* go do that first !
Things we want from EVERY report:
1. "Latest" is NOT a revision, of ANYTHING! (See below)
2. Windows Version + patch level (eg. WinXP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows ME (are you mental ?! etc.)
3. CPU/Architecture (make/model and eg. 32 or 64 bit.)
4. RAM amount (1 GB, 512MB etc.)
5. Video Card and Driver version (Intel/Nvidia/etc. version 15.7.8)
6. Sound Card and Driver version (Sound Blaster/Intel/etc. version 7.8)
7. Other devices related to issue (tv, receiver, remote, etc - make/model)
8. XBMC Revision (eg. 8.10 Atlantis or SVN 16733)
9. Detailed Instructions to Reproduce the Problem (The more specific the better.)
10. FULL Debug Log (Please use your favorite paste site! See below.) << NOT OPTIONAL !
11. MediaInfo output ( goggle mediainfo for where to obtain it for your platform)
GUI Problems (Navigation, Finding options, Setup, Labels, etc):
1. Skin name (specific skin issue's should be posted in the skin's thread (http://xbmc.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=67))
"Latest" is a completely useless version!
When referring to the version of something, ALWAYS be as detailed as possible. Saying you're using the latest version of something is wrong the second it is updated, and completely useless to someone looking for help on a similar problem in the future. (NOTE: It is perfectly fine to tell someone to upgrade to the latest version of something as this is nearly always a good idea.)
Where is my (debug) log?
IMPORTANT! The normal XBMC log IS NOT a debug log, to enable debug logging you must toggle it on under XBMC Settings - System.
The location depends on your windows version:
1. Windows Xp: Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\XBMC\xbmc.log
2. Vista: Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\xbmc.log
P.S.
When xbmc.exe was started without parameters the logfile is in the xbmc installation directory.
Compile Errors:
For the smart people who know how to compile from SVN, wait at least 48 hours before complaining about a build not working and check your build folder (try a full fresh checkout instead of just an update)
Paste sites for usage with posting your debug logs:
1. www.pastebin.com
2. www.pastebin.ca
3. www.rafb.net/paste
4. http://pastebin.ubuntu.com
