I'm new to XBMC. So for I really like. I am having a couple problems.

I don't want any info in my library to be pulled from online. I told xbmc to not pull album or artist info from online, but didn't figure this out until I had already updated the libarary once. So i deleted the .db file so I could start fresh.

When I re-updated the library it appeared to be pulling info only from the files themselves, but I still see the artist thumbnails that it pulled originally from online. I'm confused. Not sure how to start fresh here. Looking for some help on this one. Thanks!

Also, I'm not sure where it's pulling genre info from... but I have all my music tagged and have custom genre's for all of them (e.g. instead of something like "Industrial" and "Metal" I combine them into something like "Industrial/Metal"). Unfortunately, there's a whole host of genre's listed that don't match the genre's I have in all of my ID3 tags. Not sure how to update this. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

since thumbs are cached based on artist names, you will have to delete thumbnails/Music as well. THEN do a complete rescan.

you definitely have those genre tags in those files.

thanks! deleted the thumbnails. rescanning now. appreciate the help!

the genere's are definitely in the tags. i know because i came over from meedio (xbmc is way better imho) and they were listed properly in that program. i use mp3tagger and checked again in there as well... everything is gtg.

it's reading the genre from the id3 right? if it's not pulling this info from some online source (which i don't want it to do) then obviously it's something funky with my tags. maybe it can't deal with special characters (like "/" in something like "industrial/metal")???

thanks again!! i'm quite pleased with xbmc thus far.

EDIT: del the thumbnails folder worked. thanks again!

genre's fixed too! it was the "/" in the tag. changed it to a "|" and works perfectly now!!

been using xbmc for a week, its awsome! lots of great stuff in the wiki and here. i've concured my video library & added a ton of awesome plugins. now on to music... im having the same issue with genres. i have 30GBs of meticulously tagged mp3s with custom genres. xbmc shows only 1 ... "unknown"

if byproxy has succeeded changing from / to |, i guess > is what is messing me up. ( i use both | and > )

am running xbmc in ubuntu intreped. my files are on an HP MediaVault shared via FireFly, NFS & SMB. i added 2 sources ... daap:// & (NFS mounted) "local" dir, both resulting in 1 genre.

it apears the xbmc ID3 reader is choking on special characters ? should we open a bug ? i cant see anything "Genre" related in the logs (thats helpfull).
