View Full Version : [LiveCD on HDD] No stereo sound via SP/DIF
Hello Colleges.
I have following problem witch me new XBMC installation.
As in subject, I install LiveCD (XBMC-Live-8.10) on HDD in me dedicate Fujitsu-Sielmens Scaleo E machine.
Almost every think working perfectly, Video, all input device. System are booting very fast and XBMC looks amazing, but … :oo:
Movies witch AC-3 and DTS play great, but music and movies in stereo not. Its just silence :oo:
Also sound integrated is XBMC are not working.
This happen when I connect Scaleo to me amplifier via optical SP/DIF.
Analog outputs are working correctly, but unfortunately analog signal can’t be reprocess to surround sound by me Harmon/Kardon amplifier.
Please give me any advice, I’m shore that I’m not first person witch this problem.
Be my Sensey :;):
If You need any additional information, just tell me.

Go into the audio hardware settings for XBMC (settings/system settings/audio hardware). Switch it to digital. You should see two options at the bottom, one says something like "Default Audio" and the other I can't remember, maybe "Digital Audio." The digital audio will have a specific device name associated with it, for example "iec958" and the other will just say "Default." Change the one that says "Default" to match the other one, e.g. "iec958." See if that works.

Try logging into the underlying OS and unmute the channels in alsamixer. Had the same problem and this fixed it. Good Luck!

This works for me for films with Stereo. Thx eamiryar.
The only problem left that i didn´t hear any navigation sounds. My Receiver only show no signal.I know this behaviour from my old xbox XBMC. The Receiver only gets activated when there was a signal. So i was possible that you didn´t hear the first sound. If nothing happens for about 10 secs you´ll start from the same point. No big problem but would be cool if it works some day ;).

No prob. I also don't get navigation sounds, but I didn't bother to troubleshoot. I was just happy to get sound from all my videos. The only issue I have left is my home videos shot from a camera with a mono track play at like 5x speed and no sound. I've searched around and tried all solutions with no luck so far. I'll keep searching though.

Your right Eamiryar  it working now.
As You seed small change in device name from "default" to "iec958" are solving this problem.
Thanks a lot for tips
