Hi

I have recently purchased a Sony KDL-40W4000 which im delighted with but i have one problem.

I have also build a home theatre PC running XBMC which has a NVIDIA GEForce 9400GT graphics cards outputting DVI which im converting to HDMI and feeding into the HDMI 1 port in the TV. This takes care of the vision.

The sound is my problem, does anyone know how i can get sound from my PC to my TV? I was thinking of buying a Soundcard with a Digital Optical out, does anyone know if the optical port on the back of the telly is an input port which will accept this signal?

Or could i use a 3.5" jack from the Motherboard and could i feed that into the TV in some capacity?

I do not have a receiver and connect the pc directly to the TV.

If a soundcard is the way to go then i'll buy one, i need a low profile one tho due to the Antec Case i'm using, does anyone have a link to a suitable soundcard?

All help very much appreciated.

If the TV has DTV capabilities then the optical connector on your TV is an output for that.

Usually you have a RCA in that is meant to use with the HDMI/DVI 1. See if you can find it and then hook a 3.5""->RCA from your motherboard to the TV.

That would be your best bet I believe.

Hi

I have tried taking a 3.5" jack from the Mobo but i believe all the jacks on the TV are outputs. The HDMI input should support audio and visual so i'm thinking the TV has no need for another ausio in for that purpose. There is a 3.5" jack next to the HDMI input on the TV but i still got no sound when connecting that to the PC.

I'm hoping there is an easy solution, i'm even thinking of buying a mobo now that has a HDMI output as surely that would carry the sound too????

Ah sorry. I meant 3.5->3.5 from mobo to TV. Weird that you don't get sound there.
