Ok i'm a bit stumped here.

I've just installed XBMC on my vista box to do some testing and basically cant get it to start, it just brings up the standard windows error dialog on boot.

I've done a debug log and it looks like the graphics card is being detected wrongly: http://pastie.org/332336

However it had the proper ATI catalyst drivers installed, and i've just tried updating them to the latest version (8.11) with no change (same error)

The system was running multihead, but again i've disabled that trying to get it working and still no joy.

The system is a Tyan s2460 with 2x XP1800's, 2GB of RAM and a Radeon 9700 Pro. Not the fastest thing out the blocks but it should still have enough grunt to run XBMC and its mainly to do some testing before i move it to my HTPC.

Any ideas?

Try the MCE version ... documented issues.

I do know my MCE box had real issues with the ATI Catalyst package that came with bundled with my motherboard. Worked fine till I fired up the Media Center. No error messages ... just ... nothing. Black screen. If you check the ATI site, they'll confirm the problem with MCE and it <could> be that applies to a media intensive app like XBMC too.

Probably couldn't hurt anyways. But don't quote me on that ... <G>
