it doesnt play any of the vobs from the share. my pc is in a main room and the xbox will be in a different room altogether, i have multiple drives on the pc and i will be loading discs into different drives. the pc will be like a media server for the tvs and xbox's in the house. so i need to figue out how to make this work.
or if you have any easy ways to rip a dvd into a format that xbmc can read??? ive been trying this but it seems really confusing i havent found a program that will just make it and be done with it....
you cant play a dvd over the network. if you rip the vob files and put them on your network hdd you can play them but that is because the macrovision has already been decoded.

hi there,
first off i would like to congratulate the xbmc team for such a great product. the possibilities seem endless for this tool! what i would like to know is whether i can execute a program located on my windows hd on xbmc over my lan setup. i can watch movies and stream audio but it would be cool to use my 160gb hd to store xbox files as well. sorry if this is a stupid question but it has been nagging me for a while now! i just cant find anything about the topic anywhere else!
thank you!

yes, you can, i have set up by cd and dvd drive in my pc and am able to stream dvds from those drives to the xbmc.
just treat the drives in your pc as any other samba share and set it up in your config file. where have you added the shortcut in your config file. mine looks similar to this:

note: some (only some) don't play (think it is something to do with xbmc not handling dvd menus yet) also, i am not yet sure about build version 6-6-04 as all my dvds that i was previously able to stream no long work.. see my other post.
no you cant run xbox games stored on your computer desktop. the games must be on the xbox themselves.
as for dvd streaming.. are the movies that worked store bought? or are they dvd's with movies you have burnt onto them?
to the best of my knowledge you cant play a encrypted dvd over a network.

try vlc client, picture quality is acceptable and it's cross-platform (*nix, os x, window$).
