View Full Version : Video stutter - from nowhere! (new problem)

Hey!

I'll take this from the beginning.

Using Beta 2, everything was great - library, watching movies and TV shows. Didn't have any problems at all.

But since I upgraded to the final release of Atlantis, XBMC refused to add any new tv shows to my library. It didn't even find all episodes that was already on my computer.

I uninstalled XBMC and ticked the box to delete user data, re-installed XBMC and it worked great adding content to my library.

However, when re-installing XBMC all video I play (100% mkv's) is very studdery (is that a word?). And it's all the time! Not every now and then, the video doesn't slow down and then speeds up. Nothing like that. It's all studdery - all the time.

The strange thing is that this occured after installing Atlantis Final, but it won't go away if I install the latest third-party build or even go back to Beta 2 that worked. The studder is still there.

Everything else works as intended, just not the video. But it hasn't been this way before - the very same videos worked just great, but not anymore.

You can see the specs of my HTPC in my signature. I've tried both the official Beta 2, the official Atlantis final, the latest third-party Beta 2 and also the latest third-party there is. I've also tried removing userdata, but also tried keeping it. I've never imported a library.

Thanks!

What is your vsync set to?

I'm not sure if you're referring to the vsync option in XBMC or an option for my graphics card (which shouldn't make any difference, since XBMC won't use the GPU for decoding).

I'm not sure what the options were called, but I tried everything, restarted XBMC and tried some videos, but didn't notice any difference at all.

If there's (for some reason) is an option for it on my graphics card, I couldn't find it and haven't tried it either. Nothing has been touched regarding any settings for anything though. All I've done is installing and uninstalling XBMC - nothing else on my HTPC.

Umm.. Vsync on video card still can make a difference. Not sure what you are talking about.

Also, is software upscaling disabled in the Video settings?

I'm not really sure what I'm talking about regarding the graphics card either. I blame my switch to mac. :)

Anyway, the settings for my graphics card hasn't changed since the beta, so I don't belive that should be the problem (it could though, but probably not).

Software upscaling is and has always been disabled in XBMC.

Nevermind, I forgot I was using a Windows PC. You actually might have to reboot them once in a while to make them work properly.

I also updated my graphic cards drivers to the latest version (even though it shoudln't matter since it worked just great before), and then rebooted.

Why didn't I think of this sooner - my bad. Well, thanks for the quick replies anyway!

So, are you saying it all works fine now?

Good :)

Yeah, it works just great. There was never anything wrong with XBMC of course.

I shutdown and reboot my pc on a daily basis, but I seem to be having the same problems you described.

Everything was working until the final release, and now the video (not audio) just stutters a bit. All of my media is across a network... so I thought that might be the problem, but even when I put things on my hard drive they seem to stutter.
