View Full Version : Harmony 555: what delay for volume keys with EG?

Hi, I have set up my Harmony to work as a MCE remote with eventghost.
Everything is fine except the volume keys.

I dont know what delay I have to set in eventghost. At the moment the slider goes absolut fluently from low to high volume, BUT I cant see it until I get off the the button!

For comparison: If I press the button "+" on the keyboard the slider goes fluently from one side to the other, too, BUT I can see it all the time ;)

Maybe this is just an issue of the Harmony remote, because with the original MCE remote I can the the slider all the time, but it is not very fluently and slow :stare:

Hope you understand my english (I am a german user)

I think the default repeat delay for EG is .60 for the first 3 seconds and .01 after... I have set my directional keys to .10 (both settings). You may want to start there...

The key to programs like event ghost is to find the exact speed both EG records the repeated presses and XBMC can execute them... If you set the repeat too fast like .01 sec then the volume will still change even after you release the remote button.

This is because EG will record "events" faster then XBMC can perform them. So the commands back up and wait in line to be completed (even if the remote button is no longer being pressed).

So play with the repeat command in EG until it does what you want (or as close to it as possible).

Thanks for your answer, but this couldnt solve my problem. Nothing changed. I have tried many combinations but everytime the slider changes the volume in the background (not visible).

Do I need all 4 delay settings in EG to control XBMC? The last 2 settings I have at 0,0.

Anybody here who controls XBMC with an Harmony Remote?

Yes me

I use the Harmony One and since EG does not do contextual keys and get full controll over the keys

I still use IRSS

What do you all mean with contextual keys?

I dont understand exactly: Do you use EG or IRSS?

If you use EG, what delay settings do you use?

I use IRSS because:

1: no remote buttons can be programed depending on the view I am in in XBMC

example: page up = move 1 up in music playlist, home key in home screen switches to fullscreen, home key in fullscreen switches to home screen, etc....

2: No 1:1 key mapping so I can use the above

3: EG feels kind of slow, delays you mentioned. When I did use EG, I set the EG to 0,00 and the Logitech harmony to 0 sec everywhere.

That's why I still use IRSS (which is also not 100% OK cause the PC hangs on standby) :(

Ok, now I installed IRSS but it failed to start. I think this due to my TinyXP installation. On my Vista Notebook it starts without problems.

Anybody know how to start IRSS on TinyXP? :D

Sorry for the double post.

Now I have installed IRSS and it seems fine so far, but I have two problems.

1. The slider of the volume is now visible when pressing the remote button, but it is too slow. Is there a way I can adjust the delay?

2. Maybe it is the same problem, but the up and down keys are also too slow (when scrolling through the film list e.g.)

I just want it to be as fast as when using the keyoard :;):

PS: TinyXP needs to have .Net Framework 3.5 installed tu run IRSS.

Do you have the .net framework installed? You need to do that on XP first. Vista already has it.

Edit - How I managed to skip over your previous post, I have no idea.

No problem ;)

I dont know if TinyXP supports Net Framework 3.5. On my HTPC now I have a regular XP Version installed (with .Net 3.5).

to my problem:
In IRSS I have set the option "use system keyboard settings" unchecked. The "Key repeat delay" I have set to 300 and "Key held delay" to 0.

Now it is a bit faster, it is ok but not as fast as with a keyboard. Maybe this is simply not possible with a remote
