Happauge 45 button remote not working

HI there. I am trying to come over to XBMC from MediaPortal but I am having problems getting my Hauppauge 45-button remote to work.

I followed the tutorial and put XBMC= in the [Application] area of my Irremote.ini file but still no luck.

I also pasted in the [XBMC] button examples. Judging by the looks of them they look like keyboard shortcuts to me.

I have Googled for help and poured thru the forums but am not having any luck getting it to work. Not even a single button press works.

I have IR server suite installed and it looks like it was from MediaPortal but I couldn't figure out how to use it or if that would even help my situation.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I use intelliremote from melloware and it works a champ. irserver would not pick up my remote and this is the only software that would work for me.

there is a XBMC profile available, and then you just click on the action such as play, pause stop and hit learn on your remote and thats it. If your remote is not recognized by the software you can contact the author with some info from tester app provided with the install and he can add your remote to is list of known remotes.

nothing happeneds when I try to learn. It doesn't see the remote.

Remote still works in MediaPortal.. so I guess I might stay with that program

Unless anyone else has an idea?

I don't know what IR adapter your Hauppauge uses, but fire up the debug client of IRSS. Hit connect on the usb adapter and see if it will show you key presses. If you don't have a debug client in IRSS, you need to download a more recent version.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

The IR adapter plugs directly into the Hauppauge tuner card via a tiny plug similar to a 3.5mm headphone jack but smaller.

So there is no USB to it.

MediaPortal has build it support for a bunch of remotes so I never had to learn how to do all this! I just told it what remote I have and it worked.
But MediaPortal isn't working out for me anymore!

do you have the IR program running ? the little remote control icon sits next to your clock and says 'wintv remote controller' when you hover the mouse over it.

yeah, thats what translates the commands into keystrokes

Okay its working now!

It WAS the WinTV IR controller program... it wasn't running and I found it in Start>All Programs

Interesting to find out that program is a translator for keybaord shortcuts.. that explains alot of what didnt make sense to me about editing in irremote.ini file
