Hi Guys,
So I've decided to give up on getting my TV2000 remote working with 8.10. From what I've read, the original xbox remote work with 8.10 with a little hack.

My question is, can I use one of these to connect the dongle to the PC rather than opening it up?

My main concern is, won't the remote show up as a controller rather than a IR? How does lirc communicate with it? There's not mention of the xbox remote in lirc...Do all the buttons work?

Thanks heaps!

Supposedly the XBOX IR receiver can be made to work, I've nto tried it. If you want the easiest way to go though search for one of these -> http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Remote-Receiver-for-Vista-XP-Media-Center_W0QQitemZ270300488480QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA _Mice_Trackballs?hash=item270300488480&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

That's a VERY easy setup in XBMC using Lirc. Select the right remote in Lirc setup and it's PnP for XBMC.

This guy seems to be selling the remotes and the receivers seperate to make more money. Still that receiver is really what you want -> http://cgi.ebay.com/IR-RECEIVER-for-MICROSOFT-VISTA-Media-Center_W0QQitemZ160298825669QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA _Mice_Trackballs?hash=item160298825669&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

Note that I picked out "real" Microsoft hardware and nto something "compatible" or a clone as I *know* this just works with Lirc. Has anyone tried one of these -> http://cgi.ebay.com/Window-Media-Center-MCE-Vista-XP-PC-Remote-Control-Mice_W0QQitemZ220312998821QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_M ice_Trackballs?hash=item220312998821&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18 These are all over eBay for cheap and are RF vs IRDA so likely needing BT like the DiNovo keyboards. I have zero experience with these but for the price they would be pretty nice if Lirc worked with them or if they came up using the BT stack as a keyboard maybe. Anyone?

Will that one work? I heard Vista models don't work with lirc? and it's a "Hauppauge" brand.

Thanks for you're help.

I honestly do not know and since it's not a Microsoft model it will likely take more configuring. Since you picked an Aussie shop how about this? ->http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Microsoft-MCE-Remote-Control-and-Receiver_W0QQitemZ260312076494QQcmdZViewItem?hash= item260312076494&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

This might also be of some help -> http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MCE_Remote

Note that Dell and HP seem to have produced MCE compatible remotes too that could also work. what you are mostly after IMO is the IR receiver since once you have that most any remote could be made to work with some effort. I use a universal remote trained from an MCE remote and it works WELL. Where I get most nervous is when it's a RF remote or one that offers a trackpad\mouse type deal - these may be harder to get working however I'm NOT an expert at this. I just picked easy hardware and had no troubles setting it up

Edit: here's one of the Dell models http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Windows-XP-Media-Center-Centre-MCE-2005-Remote-NEW_W0QQitemZ140281394535QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1 40281394535&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

For anyone interested, this one worked out of the box.
